Zzzzz,….the Church has vast real estate holdings it could easily sell.
But in any case, I don’t care if the Church is wealthy., Bitter missed the point. I didn’t say the Church had to sell its assets.
The point is the hypocrisy of communist Popes railing against the capitalist system which has lifted billions out of poverty in favor of a system that denies opportunity to all but a few. The point is if the Church is against money and wealth and thinks it should be distributed, The
Wealthy capitalists have given away away trillions for hospitals, foundations, universities etc. They accumulated their wealth to do so through under capitalism not communism. And much of the money the Catholic church distributes in the form of schools and hospitals is through donations from successful people.
I don’t hate the Catholic church or Catholics. I hate the ideology of the dominant faction of the church, just like I hate the ideology of woke Protestant churches. I hate the ideology of Jews who vote for Mandani and support people who would kill them at the first opportunity.
Finally, I am not sure the Catholic church has declining membership because it is too conservative. I think it is actually the opposite. Most dioceses are very tolerant of homosexuality and abortion, for example. I think the ban on marriage for priests and nuns might hinder recruitment, but not sure how many people abandon the church because their priest can’t marry.
The point is if the Church is against money and wealth and thinks it should be distributed, then it could start with its own assets. (incomplete above).

The educational system in America is leftist and by consequence anti-religious.
I think the decline in church attendance for all religions in the US is due to this more than any specific church policy.
The MSM loves communist rhetoric by the Popes and claims that it makes the Church more inclusive and popular.
My contention is that more inclusive and popular does not really translate into more people actively attending church and becoming members because the people lauding this rhetoric are not religious and in fact would turn on the Pope and the Church as soon as they felt it was no longer useful to the cause.
I think the left wing ideology permeating the Catholic church and many Protestant denominations is self defeating and destructive.
Bitter disagrees, so be it.

The MSM gave great kudos to Francis for calling capitalism the dung of the devil and for denouncing money and wealth as evil.
Let’s say tomorrow Leo says communism is inherently evil, exploitative, and has denied religious freedom and in fact any freedoms to millions of people living under this regime. Let’s say he also says the path to prosperity is free enterprise, free markets and free trade.
What would the MSM reaction be? Let me guess. The Pope would now be a pariah. Bernie Sanders would say the church is in the service of the oligarchs. The NYT and all the other communist propaganda rags would have editorials denouncing the Church as a tool of the oil industry and supportive of rising seas and droughts and hurricanes and tornadoes.
Bet on it.

“As for the Methodist church and other denominations, their woke policies have hurt membership.”
I didn’t disagree. I disagreed that declining Catholic membership is due to the Church being too conservative.
But my larger point is that leftist dogma originating from the educational system is permeating all facets of society, including religion.
And that support for the church’s leftist positions will not translate into more church attendance/membership.
If you think the Pope’s communist rhetoric is helping church attandance/membership, i profoundly disagree.

The Pope is not a communist. Perhaps a socialist. Regarding gay marriage I had a friend that attended a church that welcomed in two women married to each other, as should be, be then after a while began flaunting and parading their intimate relationship in church often in the front pew offending most worshippers. The church politely asked them to stop. They refused and continued. The church asked them to leave.
Another neighbor a few years back was the pastor of a local Foursquare Church that came out in favor of same sex relationships based upon his belief the interpretation of Sodom and Gomorrah was misinterpreted. The Foursquare Church took his church away.

I have yet to meet a socialist who wasn’t really a communist. Maybe in the past there was a difference regarding the degree of government control of production but today I doubt there wouldn’t be a majority congressional Dem vote in favor of nationalizing the health industry, the defense industry, and the banking industry for example. Utilities. If Dems had control they would mandate union membership, they would want to control CEO pay, they would demand corporations serve “social” purpose and “workers on the board”. You might say well that is watered down communism, not full blown communism, but even Cuba allows some private enterprise, but its still a communist system.
Or do you believe Bernie Sanders and Mandani are “Democratic socialists”.
I think the Pope is a diehard Marxist just like Francis. The argument that maybe Marxism would not be fully implemented if he had his way is weak to me.

“We aren’t a theocracy. We have separation of church and state. It may be that the American left is trying to, you know, turn us into a theocracy, which would be quite a development,” he continued. “But he’s a president of the United States, which is a political office.
