Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump A Federal Appeals Court has just ruled that the United States can use TARIFFS to protect itself against other countries. A great and important win for the U.S.
Tariffs are a tax on the products/industry the tariffs are imposed on.
Inflation is a general increase in prices and services in the economy.
The effects of the higher taxes (tariffs) on the overall inflation numbers can be offset by other factors such as lower prices on non-tariff products, decrease in demand, etc.
A decrease in demand for a product will mitigate its effect on inflation. In other words, the inflationary effects of the tariff on that particular product will be decreased if that product is no longer purchased at the same level. However, the negative effects of the tariffs on the supply chain (transportation, marketing, advertising, construction, employment, tax revenue, etc.) will be felt if there is a decrease in demand due to tariffs.
I know this is all very difficult for a low info ignoramus like Chicon whose Cult mentality mandates “Trump did it, must be good”.

Here is the problem, Tina. The Fed is increasing money supply at Covid level rates to pay for our deficits. This is like tinder waiting for an inflationary burn. LOl! Lots of “could” in the above to thread that needle. The lack of material price increases for new vehicles in aggregate “could” also be that the Chinese are eating the steel/aluminum tariffs and profits are holding steady. Bottom line is that the trend is downward on new vehicle pricing in spite of tariffs. Will that trend continue? We shall see but if we look at Trump’s first term, the data showed no material rise in new vehicle prices, albeit with a lesser magnitude of tariffs.

This is false. As I’ve posted previously in other threads, Tariffs on steel/aluminum went into effect February 9. Mexican tariffs in March. Inventories for durable goods like steel and cars have been depleted and are reflected in April and May CPI end product numbers. Why they haven’t resulted in a material price increase is discussed in prior posts I have made on other threads. It’s all redundant at this point.
Bitter wrote – Because the tariffs have not yet hit”
This is true, not false as FLA 2025.
The effects of the tariffs will still take time to be fully known. There is still a lot of stuff in the supply pipeline and many importers increased inventories in anticipation of the tariffs.
“Most imported goods are actually parts or raw materials for larger products, such as the steel and aluminum goods now facing 50% duties. It will take time for those costs to filter through the supply chain and affect prices.
Some stores, however, have already said they will implement higher prices, including Best Buy, Walmart and Lululemon.”
“Walmart’s chief financial officer John David Rainey told The Associated Press that a car seat that currently sells for $350 at Walmart will likely cost customers another $100.
Rainey also told analysts at an Oppenheimer investor conference on Monday that for some items, Walmart will reduce inventory by as much as 20% because it expects higher prices will reduce demand, and it doesn’t want to be stuck with leftover inventory.”
and
“The effects of recent tariffs are not yet fully felt because of several factors, including phased implementation, companies stockpiling goods before tariffs took effect, and delays in rolling out the new tariffs due to technical issues.”
Now, the Central Planning “conservatives” like FLA2025 thinks this is good, but it isn’t. Less inventory means fewer sales, and less revenue through the entire supply chain.
A reduction in demand does affect inflation in the sense that if a product that used to cost $100 doesn’t sell for $150 then it does not cause inflation. However, not selling that product for $100 is a negative for the economy.
Don’t ever let your wife get involved with plants and flowers as a hobby.
Every time I decided to do a “project” like fix whatever is broken on the lawn mower, paint the deck, build a container to hide the big outside propane tank, power wash the house, repaint the fence, etc. my wife is not involved in those projects AT ALL except to drop by to say how is it going, or “good job”, “looking good”, “here, I brought you some water” or whatever.
Now when my WIFE decides to have a project, it ALWAYS seems to involve ME being required to do this or that related to HER project. Gonna plant some bushes and flowers? Walt, I need you to come dig a hole and rototill up some more of the nice green grass of the yard to make more flower beds.
Wife is having the garden club over to our house on Thursday. So she major trimmed a lot of the bushes in the yard–which requires me to gather them all, up drive them to the recycling center and pay the $10 fee for brush drop off. PLUS, yesterday I was required to wash all the windows (inside and out), and vacuum and dust today. Yesterday, the wife DOD vacuum the downstairs–after she accidentally dumped a big pot of potting soil on the carpet. Today she is off to buy a bunch of cut flowers the girls can work with to make arrangements with on Thursday.
Oh, and by the way, the wife decided that the best place for them to do all this flower arranging work was in our GARAGE–which required me to clean and organize the whole frigging garage, including my workbench. Plus drag up a bunch of tables from the basement up to the garage. The wife HATES the heat, and she KNOWS the garage is hot as hell. I do not get it.
When her project is to get the oil changed in her car or to get her gas tank filled up, it is ME who is directed to take the car to get oil change or to get gas.
Reminded me of the engineer story. Walking along a road an engineer picked up a frog.
To his surprise, the frog said “kiss me, I am a beautiful princess”. Instead of kissing the frog, he put it in his pocket. Later he took the frog out and looked at it. The frog said “what are you waiting for, kiss me and I will become a beautiful princess and be yours forever”. The engineer put the frog back in his pocket. The next time he took it out the frog said “Are you crazy. Why don’t you kiss me, I am beautiful and can be your girlfriend”.
The engineer said “I can always find a girlfriend, but a talking frog, that is really interesting”

“Most imported goods are actually parts or raw materials for larger products, such as the steel and aluminum goods now facing 50% duties. It will take time for those costs to filter through the supply chain and affect prices.
———-
Except this is false. The tariffs have been in effect over five months on steel, aluminum and autos. They have most certainly “hit”. According to both the JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs June market reports discussing the effects of tariffs on the economy, durable goods inventories have now been mostly replenished since the implementation of tariffs and the initial effect has been immaterial on pricing (for the various reasons I’ve previously posted) as of now, consistent with everything I wrote above. Moreover, the Walmart statement quoted in the post above is dated, having been made over a month ago. Those effects have now had ample time to percolate through the supply chain, which is supported by the current market analysis. Will this effect on pricing continue? As I’ve posted before, who knows? But to say the tariffs haven’t “hit” is not only unsupported by the data, it’s delusional.
As I’ve posted before, who knows? But to say the tariffs haven’t “hit” is not only unsupported by the data,”
Except that there IS no data showing they have hit, almost all analysis is to the contrary.
The fact the tariffs cost have not YET been passed on to consumers doesn’t mean they won’t be. Contrary to FLA 2025’s voodoo based statements, the fact is that the tariffs have not “hit” yet due to huge inventories amassed in anticipation of the tariffs and the fact it will take more time to reach the consumers. But there is no miracle here, no denying the fundamentals of economics like Central Planner “f–k the consumers” wants to pretend does not exist. The laws of supply and demand, no matter how much FLA2025 ignores them, still apply.
And then we have:
“Those effects have now had ample time to percolate through the supply chain”
Patently false, fake news.
“Moreover, the Walmart statement quoted in the post above is dated, having been made over a month ago.”
LOL. A month ago is not relevant?
Besides, FLA2025 conveniently hides behind the overall inflation number to ignore the truly negative effects of tariffs on the product actually subject to tariffs and the items they are components for.
I hate to tell you, but when it comes to basic economic theory I will stick with Adam Smith rather than the Cultists.
Adam Smith introduced the Law of Supply and Demand in his seminal work, “The Wealth of Nations” (1776). This economic doctrine postulates that in a free-market economy, the forces of supply and demand interact to determine prices and allocate resources efficiently.
“A centrally planned economy, also known as a command economy is one where the government, rather than market forces, controls the means of production and makes key economic decisions, such as what goods and services to produce, how to produce them, and for whom. Essentially, the government dictates the allocation of resources and sets prices, rather than leaving these decisions to individual businesses and consumers.”
Besides, FLA2025 conveniently hides behind the overall inflation number to ignore the truly negative effects of tariffs on the product actually subject to tariffs and the items they are components for.
——
Huh? Posting above about new vehicle inflation for May and April is “hiding behind overall inflation numbers”? Everyone can go above and read what I’ve posted. But hey, you stick with your over one month info. I’ll go with the data I see and what Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan are saying, LOL!
”The 87-page audit, released in June 2025, provides disturbing confirmation that Biden’s so-called “Operation Allies Welcome” allowed known or suspected terrorists to enter the country through rushed, incomplete vetting processes.
In total, 231 individuals were flagged as matches to the terrorist watchlist, and 55 were already on U.S. soil when the FBI identified them as national security risks.”
After firing the entire vaccine advisory board panel Sec.Kennedy has nominated 8 outstanding new ones to take their place.
”Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has chosen eight new members for the panel that advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccines.
The new members of the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices include Joseph R. Hibbeln, Martin Kulldorff, Retsef Levi, Robert W. Malone, Cody Meissner, James Pagano, Vicky Pebsworth, and Michael A. Ross, Kennedy announced on June 11.
“All of these individuals are committed to evidence-based medicine, gold-standard science, and common sense. They have each committed to demanding definitive safety and efficacy data before making any new vaccine recommendations,” he said.”
I am particularly pleased with the selections of Robert Malone and Martin Kulldorff.

Jason wrote – Bitter wrote – Because the tariffs have not yet hit”
This is true, not false as FLA 2025.
The effects of the tariffs will still take time to be fully known. There is still a lot of stuff in the supply pipeline and many importers increased inventories in anticipation of the tariffs.
“Most imported goods are actually parts or raw materials for larger products, such as the steel and aluminum goods now facing 50% duties. It will take time for those costs to filter through the supply chain and affect prices.
———-
Except this is false.

The Cultists are real “conservatives”!

“In recent years, an increasing number of scientific investigations have backed an alarming hypothesis: Alzheimer’s disease may not be merely a condition of an aging brain, but the product of infection.
While the exact mechanisms of this infection are something researchers are still trying to isolate, numerous studies suggest the deadly spread of Alzheimer’s goes way beyond what we used to think.
One such study, published in 2019, suggested what could be one of the most definitive leads yet for a bacterial culprit behind Alzheimer’s, and it comes from a somewhat unexpected quarter: gum disease.”
