Back from special assignment. I regret to inform everyone that the GOP in Virginia is a complete mess, the Dems have already won the top races in the election this fall, Gov, Lt. Gov, Atty General, and they will control both chambers of the state government, a clean sweep. They will then end homeschooling in Virginia, something they tried before, and the state will become an east coast version of California, and conservatives will have to sell out and get what they can for their property.
The GOP candidate for Lt. Gov is gay, and this will be a non-starter for many people of faith across the state, and will drag down the entire ticket.

Sotomayor is a far leftist hack.
But the argument that the 14th Amendment only “intended to cover descendants of slaves” is a weak one.
it is not what the Amendment says. It says if you were born in the US you are a US citizen.
IMO, that is how it needs to be interpreted.
If a woman climbs over the fence and has a baby 5 minutes later, that baby is a US citizen.
And frankly, I don’t understand why we would not want that. Why don’t we want that baby to grow up in America, be educated in America, serve America, and be a productive citizen. Why do we care where or who or how his parents were, we should only care that the baby is a citizen.
It doesn’t mean that we should not have border control or that we need to allow everyone who wants to have a baby here to do so (sorry, Jeb!), it only means that IF someone is born in America, that person is American. Period.

-It is well established that people from other countries very often send people to have their children in the USA to get citizenship conferred upon them, and then immediately take them back to raise them in their native country, until they get to college age and adulthood.
I guess jason and Bitterlaw are fine with the offspring of Putin, Xi, and the mullahs are automatically given citizenship by using this simple tactic.

So people who homeschool their children will sit out the election and lose homeschooling rather than voting for a gay person? Seems pretty stupid and shortsighted to me.

And for the lame issue about “lesser citizens” being spouted by those same A-Holes – by allowing for this “If a woman climbs over the fence and has a baby 5 minutes later, that baby is a US citizen.”, you are the ones who cheapen both naturally-born citizens as well as those born elsewhere who have gone thru the naturalization process.

But, to continue to allow those who break our laws to benefit is pure folly. We know that bad actors take advantage of those terrible interpretations of the 14th Amendment.

So if they leave and only come back after they are adults, what is the problem? American taxpayers did not have to pay anything for schools, healthcare, etc while they were out of the U.S. When they return to the U.S., they would presumably be ready to be productive if they were raised to be elite. Just to be super clear Bitter, I am only reporting what I hear voters in Virginia are planning to do. I wish we had a candidate for Lt. Gov. that would be able to get their votes so we could win. Winning is the objective for me. The Virginia GOP failed to field a collection of primary candidates from which to choose, and the result will be a catastrophe up and down the ballot. I get it that for a majority of voters its a zzzzzz issue. But in Virginia, it takes getting ALL possible Republican votes + a scandal in the northern VA public school system to win the top races. There was no margin built in for a gay Lt. Gov. candidate.

Once again, I’ll give an example: if a recession or depression hits, the numbers of Legal Immigrants should decrease, and then once the economy is sorted out, the numbers could increase back to what they were, or more if wanted.

-Since the wife and I don’t have cable at home, I was not able to watch the local teams at home, and since I work late, those games would be on too early unless I taped them.
So, I looked around, and was able to get ESPN+ for only $10/month, and I would use that to catch the late games they provided.
I latched onto Edmonton early in the 2023-24 season, when they started off like 2-10, and fired their coach.
1-they were on late because they are central or mountain time zone, so it worked for my work schedule
2-they have same colors(blue, orange, white) as my local team, the NY Islanders
3-the style of play is different than most of the local teams. Lot more non-stop action, it seems, to me.
