Here’s CNNs take on the just released Gallup poll showing the vast majority of republicans (74%) want a peace deal with Russia even if they keep the Ukranian land they’ve taken –
I have seen the following “descriptions” of what transpired in the Trump/Vance/Zelinsky televised blow up:
–Trump and Vance brought in Zelinskyy to supposedly sign the minerals deal, but instead were set on ambushing Z and humiliating him due to Z’s campaigning for Biden in 2024 in PA. It was an orchestrated retribution against Z.
–Z was going to sign the minerals deal, but first met with D senators, dedtc. who told him to get though with Trump and demand security, so that is what Z tried to do.
–Z is too hard set (to the dismay of his own advisors) into win the war and expel Putin and Russia from not just Dunbass region, but to regain control over Ukrainian Crimea. X ignores the realities as they are.
Nonetheless, Zelensky came into the White House as a man possessed, seemingly purposefully trying to sow unnecessary conflict with President Trump and Vice President Vance.
Instead of smoothing things over on Friday, Zelensky doubled and tripled down on his Biden-era, Davos-class-friendly talking points, which came off like nails on a chalkboard to America’s POTUS and VP. After forty minutes of interruptions, public disagreements in front of the press, and unnecessary challenges, Zelensky’s arrogance and disrespect were just too much to handle. The president and vice president were already very publicly (and reportedly privately) skeptical of Zelensky’s leadership, and they were not going to let the man from Kyiv’s moral grandstanding go unanswered, so they rightly put him in his place.
Perhaps we should have a new thread where all Trump supported can tell three things they feel are bad decisions/mistakes in policy etc. by Trump.
And the anti-Trump people can list three things that they think Trump is doing right.
If I was a Trump supporter who believed he walked on water and has never made a mistake in his life, I would still say his 3 biggest mistakes of Trump are:
–renaming Gulf of Mexico
–saying Ukraine started the war
–Not talking like Vance when he speaks on anything, but instead talking like Trump (where he is unnecessarily divisive, and gives the feeling that he is wrong on his facts)
****************
As one who detests Trump as a person, I would say his biggest 5 positives in his first few weeks in office are:
–actions to stop the flow of illegals into the U.S.
–actions that had led to billions of dollars of announced investment by major companies to bring investments away from foreign countries and bringing them back into the U.S.
–using the threat of tariffs to leverage concessions from Mexico and Canada regarding securing the U.S. border.
–efforts to reign in federal spending and wasting taxpayer money of all things goofy.
–efforts to kill off the expensive and destructive DEI programs in government
We have a huge problem on our hands. NATO countries are now saying they’ll bypass the U.S. and send their troops into Ukraine. And then, if Russia attacks, they might invoke Article 5, which would basically start World War 3 by dragging in all of NATO and the U.S. Bad things ahead if this keeps up. Bad things.
Seems like those people in flyover country really don’t wait to get to know people personally before judging them worthy or unworthy of their friendship……
Saying that one cannot have an opinion on Trump because they have not met him is so utterly and completely dumb. It is hard to see how that is NOT part of a cult mindset.
Obviously, all sorts of people come to opinions about people in public life without having to meet them.
They are not running against each other. Surely, there is a better option than standing with either.
MTG is saying that Americans view Putin unfairly because Hollywood makes anti-Russian movies.
The mask is off. So many Republican officials and candidates are becoming open in their support for Putin. Those that feel the same way on HHR will become less and less coy about it.
There is nothing wrong with detesting a detestable person and there is no doubt you have used that term or worse for years to describe many people who are non-murderers, non-rapists.
“So, in this case, a New York City type is literally calling Walt a “country bumpkin” who has no right to his personal opinion of Trump.”
-OMG!
Yes, I called a guy who lives in a small town in WV, who has a wonderful sense of humor which includes a certain Ca$h Cow, rewrites songs, etc etc etc a “country bumpkin” to highlight the fact that I believe certain cultural characteristics are coloring Walt’s view of Trump, and I think he is mistaken in that regard.
He can have whatever opinion he wants. I told him I think he is wrong to have that opinion.
As for you, why not put a name after your comment?
Bitterlawyer said – Zzzzzzzz So were abolitionists in 1860. Right isn’t always popular.

You’ve drawn an incorrect inference counselor. The point of posting the poll wasn’t to affirm the merits of the popular opinion but to show that it is not a fringe cult, as you regularly depict here. Following your abolitionist point, they may have been wrong but they weren’t a fringe cult either. You’ll never make law review if you don’t read more carefully and draw proper inferences.
“There is nothing wrong with detesting a detestable person and there is no doubt you have used that term or worse for years to describe many people who are non-murderers, non-rapists.”
-I do doubt that. Detest is a pretty strong word, in my opinion.
Observation: JD Vance is a very smart guy. Much smarter than he was given credit for by the Establishment GOP crowd who saw him as a guy who wrote a book about his very different journey to Yale Law School and Silicon Valley, and then rode the celebrity of that book to an Ohio Senate seat. But I don’t think they ever credited him for being as cerebral as he is, and as well-read as he is. I think those in Europe — particularly Govt officials — are only familiar with the Reader’s Digest version of Hillbilly Elegy. What they are only now beginning to realize is that he’s very smart. Smarter than they are. By a wide margin. And he knows it.
During the recent Joe Rogan podcast with Elon Musk, it was pointed out how much better Trump’s cabinet picks have been, when contrasting them to his first term. In fact Musk called them his “revolutionary cabinet,” similar to the one in 1776, in being not for the status quo, same old same old kind of actions.
Janzam, other than that department of labor pick, it’s hard to disagree. I am a big DeSantis guy (best governor I’ve ever had), but Trump 2.0 has been outstanding so far. His cabinet picks have been excellent and every day seems like Christmas still. Rubio has really surprised and impressed me.
Apparently the UK and Ukraine signed a long term partnership agreement with each other on January 16 of this years- before Trump’s inauguration. Among the many glowing promises made was one regarding rare earth minerals.
”It also cements the UK as a preferred partner for Ukraine’s energy sector, critical minerals strategy and green steel production.”
Fla2025 – I agree about the labor sec choice. Also, I initially was backing Ric Grenell as SOS. However, Marco Rubio has really stepped up to the plate doing a fine job, which was a pleasant surprise for me.
The Founding Fathers, writing the Declaration of Independence in 1776, had a similar revolutionary impact on governance as what the current cabinet members are showing – hence the equivalency remark made about the two time slots in history.
For you, Bitter, nothing seems to matter except that Ukraine is given the win over a Putin.
The Founders started a new nation, The current Cabinet is helping administer a long standing nation.
Both the “new start” and this “new cabinet” are going against the grain of what was/is considered governing conformity, which is where the similarity was referenced. Parse differences if you want, but in the sense that a new path was reckoned with in 1776, so is a new one attempting to be established in this new administration.
The humble beginnings, rise to local fame in high school and college, college love found / love lost, the wilderness experience, finding myself, finding love again, rocketship to success and amassing a fortune (in WV terms), finding Cash Cow, ecstasy and agony of legislative experience–romance, suspense, violence, drama, tragedy, comedy–it has it all…

Bitter, getting off of the Ukrainian bandwidth for a moment – I’m truly sorry to hear your leg is bothering you so much. No real remedies except to be sure you have enough mineral intake (calcium, magnesium), and maybe applications of heat followed by cold might help.
Bitterlawyer should take 2 of these and he’ll feel better about both Rubio and the 2 female posters he seems to regularly single out for bullying on this forum –
SNL hasn’t been funny in years but they do get lucky sometimes.
Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he is ‘ready to sign’ the minerals deal with America that was put on hold after his stormy meeting with Donald Trump.
Speaking to reporters at Stansted Airport before he left the UK, Zelensky said he ‘just want[s] the Ukrainian position to be heard’ when he was asked about the disastrous meeting with US President Donald Trump on Friday.
The Ukrainiac’s here really are a minority cult in the Republican Party.”
Zzzzz.. I left the Republican Party years ago, and one of the reasons was exactly this.
I have never denied the base of the R party is now isolationist and protectionist, and I have said many times it is one of the reasons I no longer identify with the party.
Well, Z, what’s different about this promise to sign the deal?
I suspect Trump will be willing, under the right circumstances, to keep moving forward. But, I would not give Zelenskyy an extra second of publicity; I’d tell him to send it FedEx.
“I don’t think they really want to stop Putin. They want to continue this bloodshed,” Ukraine-born U.S. Rep Victoria Spartz (R-IN) said in condemnation of Zelensky’s despicable behavior.
”I have never denied the base of the R party is now isolationist and protectionist, and I have said many times it is one of the reasons I no longer identify with the party.”
-Right now, the “isolationist and protectionist” Republican Party is trying to negotiate a mining development deal in neighboring……..wait for it……..Ukraine!!!
Some in the EU have offered troops in a peacekeeping capacity in Ukraine. Zelenskyy perhaps has begun to realize that he needs a peace agreement or ceasefire first.
What’s the European and Ukrainian plan to get Russia to agree to that?
Trumps Cabinet and Elon are why I am so damn excited about Trump now…LOL. He is using that Article 2 power to clean house which was why I supported DeSantis so much. Elon has got Trump taking about balancing the budget and paying off the debt! Trump almost getting his head blown to pieces has tempered his brashness and childish behaviors…so that helps.
Trumps Cabinet and Elon are why I am so damn excited about Trump now…LOL.”
Anyone who doubted JeffP is a pathological liar and unprincipled ass, rest assured.
This was the guy who for a whole year here was the biggest TDS moron on HHR, posting scurrilous attacks on Trump several times a day. Nothing was too low or too despicable. He even adopted all the Dem talking points on the bogus Trump charges, and telling us how Jack Smith and Fanny Willis had an open and shut cases. His favorite refrain: Trump is finished.
I was ready for DeSantis to take up the MAGA cause because he such an awesome leader and knew he would use Article 2 authority to clean house in the Administrative State. Then I did not trust Trump at all to follow through.
This cracks me up because you never understood half of what or why I posted what I did about Trump and still don’t.
I had a ton of issues with Trump and thought he would never win the normies vote with all the law fare against him. I thought for sure the corruption in the DOJ and DC court would finally take him out. I can be WRONG and admit it.
You think I am Putin supporter now too. But you’re wrong and will never admit it.
PS I want a Trump statue in DC if he eliminates the Department of Education.
Bitterlawyer says – Bullying women by typing at them? Zzzzzzzz
————
Yes counselor, that’s generally how cyber bullies do it. doesn’t your Pennsylvania cyber harassment laws walk you through this concept of bullying minor woman, among other types of minors, via the Internet? Not that anyone is saying that posters here are minors or you are engaged in criminal cyber harassment, just pointing out the fact that the Internet is the tool for such conduct. So yes, you can bully woman by “typing on the Internet”.
bitter, you do seem to target them and attack them whenever they post, more so than you do anyone else on this board. There’s nothing improper to report. it’s just that from the little I’ve been here it does seem to be that way. It’s probably subconscious on your part because you all here seem to have a long history together. I just made an observation and responded to your post. Others have pointed this out to you as well.
Bitter, I’m not looking to debate you on this issue, I gave you my sincere impressions based on what I’ve seen. It is more than just disagreeing with them. You seem to seek out and attack the two female posters on this board more than any others. If you think this is hogwash, just ignore it and move on. However, as I mentioned, others have also pointed this out to you. As a member of the bar, I would think you’d appreciate such commentary. Almost all the people on this board seem really smart and decent, each adding very interesting perspectives. Maybe if you take a different approach you can really grow this board. From my experience as a new poster, I can see why it’s having trouble attracting more people, even though DWs polling posts should make this a much higher trafficked site. Always Strive to be better, counselor. That’s always suited me well in my endeavors.

Zzzzz.. I left the Republican Party years ago, and one of the reasons was exactly this.
I have never denied the base of the R party is now isolationist and protectionist, and I have said many times it is one of the reasons I no longer identify with the party.
GFY.

Well, Z, what’s different about this promise to sign the deal?
I suspect Trump will be willing, under the right circumstances, to keep moving forward. But, I would not give Zelenskyy an extra second of publicity; I’d tell him to send it FedEx.
Effing dumb arse.

Starmer today is prepping the EU to be peacekeeping forces in Ukraine of willing nations but not a NATO operation.

Some in the EU have offered troops in a peacekeeping capacity in Ukraine. Zelenskyy perhaps has begun to realize that he needs a peace agreement or ceasefire first.
What’s the European and Ukrainian plan to get Russia to agree to that?

Putin will only deal with Trump. The EU leaders are buffoons. Trumps team …JD, Waltz, Rubio, etc…are miles above any of these EU Presidents etc…
This is going to be interesting to watch play out.

Now all of a sudden he is ultra MAGA.
What a scumbag.
