We lived in Illinois when my kids were in middle school. We had two choices- get Hep B and Hep C for the kids or home school. This was more than 20 years ago.
When Covid hit, I was told that if I wanted to keep my job, I had to get the Covid vaccine. So I did….almost 4 years ago.
Why are we relitigating the authority of government to require vaccination? Just because a third-generation Kennedy hasn’t kept up with the science?
It is perfectly reasonable for public health authorities to require vaccination to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
…and by the way, the vaccine-autism link was based on poor studies. They have now been definitively refuted. I don’t care what Robert Kennedy or Jenny McCarthy believe.

When the FDA evaluates drugs – which includes all vaccines – they compare benefits to risks. Very few drugs have no risks, and most widely used drugs have resulted in unfortunate adverse reactions upto and including death.
The benefits from vaccines are huge, in terms of lives saved and reduced morbidity. When you set that against the few injuries and deaths that result (even valuing human lives at $7-10 million apiece) the gain to the public is very large.

RFK wants vaccines to undergo more rigorous testing and scrutiny before they are approved for public usage. The COVID shot was always controversial, and not a vaccine but more a gene therapy. It has a much larger record of side effects than were allowed documentation under VAERS. Also there were repurposed drugs available, that were first derided and finally banished, that could have been used for early treatment of COVID. The medical industry has also been severely corrupted. RFK taking away televised marketing of drugs will help take profiteering away from news stations, creating a more informed consent environment for pushing drugs on people.

That’s not true. There has been tremendous opposition to the idea that vaccines might contribute to autism, creating peer reviewed studies. However, much like climate change, peer reviewed studies are not bullet proof, and can easily be refuted when more studies are done with updated data.

The reason kids were vaccinated was to achieve herd immunity. It is true that few prople under the age of 65 were at risk of DYING from Covid, but people of all ages contracted it. A seemingly healthy kid could infect many at-risk older people who might then die. At least, that was the reasoning.
I do not agree with you that the vaccines were poorly tested or evaluated. It is nothing short of amazing that pharmaceutical firms could bring drugs from test tube to the public in less than one year. It took seven years for polio.
Most of you are too young to remember getting polio shots or the sugar cube. I remember it well. None of us questioned whether there might be adverse effects for some people. We all remembered the kids and adults in wheelchairs; most of us knew someone who had died from polio. We all just lined up and ate the sugar cube.

This is not to say that I disagree with RFK Jr on everything. I see no useful purpose in advertising drugs to the public that must be prescribed by a doctor. I have been appalled by some of the abuses pharma companies have created: off-label prescriptions, oxycontin that had ‘less than 1% chance of addition’; jacking up prices of essential drugs like Epi-pens, Daraprim, and Emflaza.
I just don’t think that vaccine safety is an important issue to work on.

-Yes, it is, for diseases that were shown to have pretty high injury/mortality rates, like polio and smallpox.
BUT, when it comes to vaccines like the chickenpox vaccine, which is purely an economic vaccine, it isn’t reasonable. The amount of serious injury/death from chickenpox is infinitesimal, so NO, it is NOT reasonable to mandate that vaccine.
I would assume that many others are also in that same category – Convenient for parents, allows politicians to look like they are doing something and that they “care”, but not necessary for long-term health prospects.

It seems like a lot, but most children get through it just fine. I get a flu shot every year – so I have had many more shots than my kids. Not to mention hundreds of vials of blood for tests over the years.
Ask Bitter how many needles he had had poked in him. As a diabetic, he has probably lost count.

BillW, herd immunity, especially dealing with viruses, is best cultivated by contacting the virus and developing a stronger immunity on your own. The COVID shot has actually reduced immunity for not only other respiratory diseases but also cancer – creating the onset of “turbo cancers” much more frequent these days. Also, strokes, abnormal fibrous clotting, heart disease (especially in young males). There have also been studies done where there is more infertility and stillborn births for women taking the shot. Read the research done going thru the Pfizer clinical trials – something pharma wanted hidden for 75 years until it was court ordered to hand them over to medical professionals to scour through.
