BREAKING: Republican Sen. Joni Ernst says Pete Hegseth failed to persuade her to support his confirmation during their meeting.”
Joni had no problem voting for Lloyd Austin, though. I believe she also approved Pete Boot-Edge-Edge (who is a dope with no experience) to run Transportation.
A bad look, except perhaps to more “progressive conservatives”.
I’m glad Bitter confirms that he is the spokesperson for the Pure Conservatives, and is in charge of determining what policy positions are conservative.
Iowa – despite the best efforts of the Pure Ann Seltzer – voted strongly for Trump just a few weeks ago. Maybe Joni’s office has been overwhelmed with calls opposing Pete, but I’d bet her constituency is in favor of him.
I guess that’s unimportant to the Progressive Conservatives.
Bitter, with a raging case of TDS sez…You know the cult ends when Trump leaves office, right?
Like many Pure Conservatives, Bitter (like Robbie) wants Trump voters out of his sandbox as soon as possible. I suspect that less emotionally-driven Republicans are attempting to figure out how to keep them. Bitter’s obvious loathing of Trump supporters (as opposed to Trump voters like him) is the path back to purity and the losing of elections. He’s proving to be the real deadender.
More nonsense. I have consistently said for decades at HHR that the GOP needs as many voters as possible. Your lie (again) that I disdain Trump supporters is manufactured and completely refuted by hundreds of my posts.
My issue is whether voters who only support Trump will fall away when Trump is out of office. Where were they in 2022 when the expected Red Wave became a trickle? Trump was not at the top of the ticket so many sat out.
I agree that they need to stay in the GOP but I expect they only care about Trump.
If I only cared about purity, why do I let you and the cult post? This is probably one of the Trumpiest blogs around. I let people post their conspiracies and Deep State fantasies despite having the edit button. The only poster blocked was the anti-Semitic America-hating bastard Bunu.
Abraham Accords. Vlad waiting until Joe is in to invade Ukraine. Increasing military spending. Confronting North Korea enough to stop missile testing while Trump was in office.
I’ll take some some of this “isolationism”.
There are some mouth-breathers who say that forcing Nato members to pay what they agreed to equals isolationism. These are not deep thinkers.
If you look at my posts over the last few years, much to Amoral Scumbag’s chagrin, I am the one who has advocated that for the Republican Party to move to a populist, working class party. No one here has made more a case that the traditional Republican base of suburbs + rural coalition could no longer achieve a majority in national elections. For this I was attacked constantly by wes and Amoral Scumbag and others who said I was “abandoning the suburbs.
I strongly believe that the Republican party does have to become the party of working class people of all races, and just as importantly, all areas, including urban areas.
Unfortunately, I don’t agree with many of the policies used to attract these demographics and so I am not attracted to this party. In my view, the new direction is not compatible with the conservative ideals that first attracted my to the party when I came to the US. So be it.
And I do differ somewhat from Bitter’s take. It has always been my contention that Trump is a symptom rather than the cause of this shift. He was smart enough to tap into it but he didn’t create it. The protectionist and isolationist aspects fit very well into his existing beliefs, but many others did not, and he had to adapt a lot of his previous stances such as immigration, abortion, healthcare, role of government, etc.
Thus, while I hope the Cult of Trump ends with Trump, the broad direction of the Republican party will remain, because in my view the populist movement within the GOP is not Trumpism, it was already trending there when Trump rode down the escalator.
“There are times when society must step in and stop demented parents from destroying the life of their child.”
I was listening to Hannity on the radio yesterday (sue me, long drive).
He and a guest were commenting on how the LPGA just announced that transgendered females will not be allowed to compete. Some were considering it a significant “victory” against the trans agenda.
However there was a “caveat”. This applied to men who switched to being women after puberty only. IF the transgender golfer was “transition” pre-puberty, then they can compete.
So the Hannity guest said unfortunately this is actually an incentive to transition young children rather than the opposite.
This time it will be Vance. There will be many non-cult conservatives to choose from in 2028.”
Four years is a long time. I wouldn’t vote for the 2024 Vance, but who knows what the 2028 Vance will be.
Obviously I would prefer RDS. But if Trump has a successful Presidency I think Vance will be tough to beat for the nomination.
And of course, given Trump’s age, it is entirely possible he will be President by then. Not even due to death or illness, Trump could decide after 2 years he would rather play golf.
The time consuming and depressing “decorate everything imaginable for Christmas season” (which includes sending out all the Christmas cards with the annual Christmas letter included–which by the way had not yet been written by me– is in full swing. Many deaths and illnesses and epidemics of falls, etc. due to all this. Tree gets unboxed, assembled and goes up today.
And the SCHEDULE of SEASONAL and SOCIAL EVENTS that I must now go to is sadly getting longer and longer… And I have not bought ONE thing yet to give as gifts to loved ones.
Have to go get more electrical thingies at Lowes.
And the incessant winds have blown down some of the outside Christmas decorations. And I think I am having problems with my water heater.

ALL THIS is the biggest topic we should be discussing.
But NOOOO!
Most of you here would rather discuss trivial things that are not important, like who is more conservative than who, Trump’s picks and who is for and against, which R senator is more RINO than the other, trade insulting barbs and rip bandages off old wounds.
***************************
And DRUDGE is now TERRIBLE. NO–and I mean NO–news about deer or monkeys.
Plus my car battery was dead the other day when I had to go to a dentist appt., and it is too damn cold in the garage to go smoke cigars.
Steve Kornacki’s analysis is relevant to the discussion above.
“By driving up support even further with white blue-collar voters and earning substantial new backing from nonwhite, young and first-time voters, President-elect Donald Trump swept the battleground states and secured a national popular vote victory.
But in the five battlegrounds that also featured Senate races, GOP candidates all received far fewer votes than Trump — enough to cost the party four of them (and nearly all five). While it’s customary for fewer total votes to be cast in down-ballot races, the drop-off was notably worse for Republicans than for the Democratic Senate candidates.
Individual candidate and campaign dynamics can certainly account for some of this. In Arizona, for instance, Republican Kari Lake’s broad unpopularity clearly gave an extra boost to Democrat Ruben Gallego, who actually received more votes than Vice President Kamala Harris did at the top of their party’s ticket.
But taken as a whole, the overall pattern is striking — especially in light of recent history. In the two previous presidential elections combined, just one state produced a split White House/Senate outcome. That was in Maine in 2020, when voters re-elected Republican Sen. Susan Collins while backing Democrat Joe Biden for president.
There are likely several factors at work here, but two stand out as potential longer-term issues for the GOP.
The first involves voters who were motivated to turn out for Trump, but then skipped all of the other races on the ballot. There’s some evidence for this. My colleague Scott Bland found that in Nevada’s Washoe County, the second largest in the state, 6.6% of Trump’s voters either left the Senate race blank or went with a third-party candidate (or used the state’s unique “none of these candidates” option). Meanwhile, 4.9% of Harris’ voters did the same.
This only accounts for a small portion of the GOP drop-off in Nevada, but it’s a result that’s consistent with a feature of our NBC News polling this year. We found Trump faring best with infrequent voters (posting a 15-point advantage among those who hadn’t voted in 2020) who expressed a lower level of interest in the election and were disproportionately young, nonwhite and male. It’s plausible that a significant number of these people ended up being “Trump-only” voters, raising the question of whether the GOP can convert them into full-fledged Republican voters in the future, when Trump won’t be on the ballot.
The other factor the GOP will need to address involves Democratic defectors — traditionally Democratic voters who have essentially made an exception for Trump.
This appears to have been at work in Wisconsin, where Trump won by about 30,000 votes even as Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin was re-elected by roughly the same margin. The drop-off from Trump to his party’s Senate candidate (Eric Hovde) was most pronounced in rural, blue-collar counties, many of which had been Democratic territory until Trump’s emergence. Here Trump expanded his support even further, which was key to his statewide victory, but those gains didn’t trickle down the ballot.
Republicans will need to find a way to make that happen in the future — without Trump.”
Kornacki sez….”Republicans will need to find a way to make that happen in the future — without Trump.”
And yet I read here constantly how awful these people are. I’m sure that’s the best way to keep them in the Big Tent. Remember, they see the establishment R’s and D’s as the same critter.
Christmas just 19 days away. Here is my top 100 list of Christmas Carols and songs. It was hard to whittle it down, but here they are in the order of my own preference. If you don’t like my list, come up with your own list:

Jason’s latest lie….Let’s add that to the long list “things that never happened that compulsive liar Chicon pretends someone said”.
Yes, the posts directed toward Jan, Tina, Hodges, NYC and me are nothing but warm and fuzzy! Being called Putinista morons and openly lying about their positions is definitely the best way to welcome others to the Big, Pure Tent. Lol, I love this place.
My Christmas Carol list is a mixture of traditional carols, many from northern Europe, and celebratory songs, and even spirituals that came from African-American folk music. I also included some of the American classics introduced by Bing Crosby. I did not include Jingle Bells, because if you look at the lyrics, it has nothing to do with Christmas.
O Come, O Come Emmanuel, is tops on my list because the melody is haunting, like a Gregorian chant, and the lyrics capture perfectly the true meaning of Christmas.
As an example of how the blue collar infrequent voters see R’s and D’s as the same, look no further than Joni and the other “pure conservatives” trying to scuttle Trump nominees.
If Kornacki wants to know why there’s people that only voted for Trump, that’s one of many examples of why. If you want to keep them in future elections, maybe take steps to earn their trust.
Otherwise, find another coalition to win elections. They view the choice as Trump v. Establishment; if the choice looks like Establishment v. Establishment, they’ll stay home.
NEW: Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) has kind words for Elon Musk, vows to work with him. “I admire
@ElonMusk. He has been involved in very important parts of American society.” “Yes, he’s on a different team, but that doesn’t make me an enemy […] Hey – he has made our economy and our nation better, and our politics are different, [but] that doesn’t make him an enemy.”
What would Jason and Bitter do if they didn’t quibble about people and the opinions expressed on this blog? After a while a thread becomes nothing more than a back-and-forth elementary school level of comments, bashing people and content not meeting J & B’s approval..
In the meantime 100 Navy Seals have committed to openly support Hagseth, coming to DC in mass to do so. Ernest’s refusal to back Hagseth, especially in lieu of her record of supporting more questionable dem cabinet nominees, makes her look less than credible regarding her reasons to not say yes.
Laughing at Bitter and Jason acting as if they are being lied about.
Two will discuss and posts 24/7 about why more people dont come here and then spend the rest of the time attacking. belittling or playing the victim when people call them out.
It is a wonder they are allowed out in public without caregivers. I guess they figured out how to get past the parental controls that their moms and dads have put on their computers.
Political division lines are different than they once were. The terms “liberal” and “conservative” have evolved, maybe even dissolved, replaced by working vs elite classes and/or global vs national/populist alignments. Most would probably not even care about Jason and Bitter’s strict guidelines, in declaring the political pedigree of another, as to how “conservative” their credentials are. Rather, most people evaluate what a leader espouses and can get done today, not dwelling on past preferences that have been transformed by their own lifetime experiences and growth..
I feel sorry for you, OA. You can’t stand that I don’t accept all of your opinions or kiss Trump’s ring. You are unhinged because HHR continues despite your prediction it would fail.
As I said, DW and Vic have the same access I do. They can lock me out whenever they want. Otherwise, I’m not leaving.
”Do you want to be praised for posting here when you hate it?”
The fact you are a lawyer Bitter sometimes is surprising, as you misinterpret, maybe deliberately, what people are saying. Who here is seeking praise? The grumbling happens primarily when posts are completely mischaracterized by hostile, stupidly phrased responses.
Regarding posting here or not..my remarks are written in flurries when a topic is of interest to me. Otherwise, there are more interesting conversations going on elsewhere that have less rancor and sniping, along with lively content.
Berghoff’s has a place at O’Hare that serves the sandwiches. It is better than nothing but I like sitting at wood paneled bar at Berghoff’s having the sandwich and a couple house brewed beers.
Bitter, again, you are lying and playing the victim.
I never said I care whether you accept my opinions are not.
I never said that I hated your posting.
It is your behavior that is offputting.
Normally, you just play the victim. However, when you have another lying bully to defend and back you up, you think you can function without your meds and join in with him.
LOL. Embrace life as it is, buddy. You might find some real joy.
