  2. Hochul must have really pissed the Knicks owner off…not only the Knicks but he owns Madison Square Garden and the Rangers.

“ALBANY, New York — Sports and entertainment mogul James Dolan has emerged as the largest GOP donor in the Empire State this election cycle after backing Gov. Kathy Hochul’s last campaign.

Dolan, his company and family members donated $1.4 million this year to committees supporting Hochul’s GOP foe, Bruce Blakeman, and have put millions more into super PACs that have started to support the Republican. The money represents crucial support after one of the party’s biggest rainmakers stopped giving.

The money stands to have an impact far beyond the gubernatorial campaign: Republicans desperately need Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, to run a competitive race against Hochul in order to win several New York swing House seats that will potentially determine control of Congress and the final years of Donald Trump’s presidency.

The giving also arrives during an advantageous moment for Dolan, the owner of the New York Knicks, Rangers and the arena where they play — iconic Madison Square Garden. Trump, a Blakeman ally, is backing an $8 billion overhaul of New York City’s Penn Station that will leave the Garden in place — potentially sparing Dolan a major headache.

The president and Blakeman were guests in Dolan’s suite during game three of the NBA Finals. Dolan plans to bring his basketball team to the White House, the first time an NBA champion has done so during either Trump presidency.”

  5. Now that the DSA has openly admitted they plan communism for us (elimination of the SCOTUS, POTUS, Senate, etc.), its not too early to warn everyone that their communism will be retroactive.

Any and all savings and investments you have piled up for retirement will be seized and used for the good of the “people” i.e. the government, while you get to work like a dog just barely getting enough to feed yourself until you drop dead in your old age.

One of the things that kept people going in the Soviet Union was strong family ties, where extended family members worked together to keep everyone fed, and everyone as healthy as possible.

But with leftist individualism/isolation being the norm, where everyone is conditioned to reject family, and live alone with government as your god, father, and spouse, the results will be devastating. With no family to help individuals to cope with life under the oppressive communist government, suicide will be so rampant that there may not even be enough people to work the shovels.

I warned that if we did not change something, we would soon be seeing 10% of the annual federal budget going to just pay interest on the debt. I posited that this could be the downfall of the U.S.

    *****

    Flash forward to today.

ANNUAL interest payment on the atonal debt is the 2nd largest spending item in the federal budget

Only cost of Social Security in higher the ND interest costs.

Nat. Debt interest payment is HIGHER that spending for the military.

    HIGHER than Medicare.

Dollar amount today on ND interest is over $1.1 TRILLION.

    That is @ $3 BILLION a DAY.

So 2 days of Interest on ND is MORE that the entire annual general revenue budget for WV of $5.5 BB.

The total national debt is now over $40 TRILLION.

    ●●●●●●●

ALL STATES require an annual BALANCED BUDGET…. except one….

    ….VERMONT

    ●●●●●

When states want to spend more than they take in they often issue road bonds or other bonds. They gain revenue to build stuff now to pay back later in bond and interest payments. Federal government does the same.

    ********

it seems that a huge and growing national debt does not really have big negative impact on the citizens of the U. S.

I DO have a theory that it subconsciously causes people to internalize the national debt issue with govt taking in less that they spend and Americans take in way more calories that they burn off every year and keep getting more and more pudgy. They subconsciously feel if the U. S. can operate with the income / outflow imbalance, then it is ok for them to operate on a similar imbalance of calorie intake /outflow.

    Anyway…

    ■■■■

I have changed my mind since I was in 9th grade. I do not see the National debt issue and big interest payments as being alarming.

First, as a % of GNP, the interest on debt is only about 3%.

Secondly, the U. S. government does have assets. The Federal government ow Ed about 30% of all the land in the U.S. Plus the feds own a lot of buildings worth a lot of combimed value. All of this should be worth trillions.

Plus it has over a TRILLION alone in military hardware (ships, planes, tanks, etc.)

PLUS the government owns all the gold at Fort Knox. And Trillions in mineral rights of things beneath the and it owns.

Plus a lot of things of value like the original U.S. Dec of Ind and Comstitution and lots of things in government museums that would fetch a big price on Antique Roadshow is we ever did have to sell of some things or have a yard sale.

Back in 9th grade, my research said that the harm of a big natonal debt and having to Pay lots of Interest on the ND, the bad impact would be it would drive up Interest rates and hurt everyone borrowing to buy a car, house, go to college, start a business, etc.

    THAT SIMPLY IS NOT HAPPENING.

Now if the feds decided to just print $40 trillion and pay off the national debt in one fell swoop with huper inflated dollars of little value, THAT might cause massive inflation.

    *****

So what IS the bad part of a large and growing national debt?

Maybe causing us to spend a lot of Trillions a year that we COULD be spending to provide other things like roads and highways, replace sketchy bridges, etc.

    That is all I got.

They said the navy is building some new class aircraft carriers and Trump likes the old WWII style carriers with the tall command bridge on the side near the ce ter of the carriers. The new carriers have the tall command bridge on the one side but towrd the rear. Trump wants them to redesign and put the command d bridge back toward the center.

Carriers also have a mechanical thingies that helps launch the planes off the deck. Have had thst for decades. Trump wants them to make the launch mechanism be steam drive. Like it was decades ago.

These are the things that drive me crazy about Trump.

He spends time and energy involved with these type things instead of leaving those decisions to the top military people. He also focuses on the reflecting pool, plans to build a huge arch in D.C., put his ba.ebon the Kennedy Center, build a ballroom,…window dressing stuff thst is really far, far down the list of priorities on the American people.

I remain of the belief that Trump is on the autism spectrum somewhere.

If I could be given the chance to pick 40 past presidents and be granted a day or two with each to spend time with and talk to, Trump would not be on my list of presidents to spend a day or two days with.

The Ford Class (to which I am privy as the radar lead for that class and the Zumwalt destroyers) have had awful issues with those things, all because the usual suspects in the defense industry came to Congress by way of their flag officers (both retired and nearing retirement) and sold the Navy a bill of goods (just like they did with that G_d awful LCS class of ships, all of which are useless and will end up being sunk as targets since no one else wants to buy them off of us).

As to the island design, what he’s (as ever, inartfully) referring to is the smaller (though still large) fleet carriers of the past. The current LHAs are comparable to those ships, and can field an impressive arrays of air units. They are cheaper to build, come into service much faster, and working in numbers, can provide decent local air defense without exposing the capital units (CVNs) to more danger than necessary. While I would love nothing more than a 600 ship navy again, that’s just not going to happen. Fifteen carrier strike groups is also not going to happen, so we need to embrace other options for area air defense than ten billion dollar + CVNs.

As for the others-don’t care. I do, however, agree with you with Teddy R. His persona did indeed exhibit a ‘man’s man’>

So Trump must care more about his anti-trade and economic isolationism than he does about winning the midterms.

If the Rs lose the House and Senate, Trump will have plenty of time for golf. He won’t get one thing on his agenda done. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

I met GWB at an event in PA maybe 15 years ago and actually got to stand around in a group that was talking to him after the event. He told some good stories, unfortunately I can’t remember them.

I have met a lot of other politicians. KBH, Rick Perry, Phil Gramm. Paul Ryan. Tom Corbett. Pat Toomey come to mind.

It won’t be hard if its a wave election.

In a wave election 80% + of close races all go the same way.

If its not a wave election, then Rs and Ds will split the swing races and then it would be hard for the Dems to prevail.

  94. Same with the Senate.

If there is a blue wave Dems will win several of the close races like 52-48.

  95. I get that jason, but the polling doesn’t suggest such a wave. And the redistricting took many of those races that could have flipped in a wave at 52-48 and put them just out of Dem reach.

Don’t get me wrong, if I start to see a blue wave forming, I will be the first to admit it. Right now I would see a very narrow Dem house majority and a narrow GOP majority in the senate, followed by two years of gridlock where the house spends the next two year impeaching trump over and over to no avail.

TR once quipped something about hating to work with foreign diplomats from Asia as it was all he could do to not jump up and knock their heads together to get them to understand. Something I can easily see Trump saying.

  110. Actually, there are some similarities between Teddy R and Trump. Teddy was born in Manhattan while Trump in Queens. Both challenged ‘traditional party establishments’.

Both fought members of their own party….Teddy breaking away and founding the Bull Moose Pary and Trump establishing the MAGA movement.

Both attacked the media. Teddy called the media ‘muckrakers’ while Trump called the ‘fake news’.

Teddy R started the ‘big stick’ approach-peaceful talks back by military force. Trump follows that script.

Both are/were accused of executive overreach.

Both has/had famous words or phrases….Teddy “Bully!” Trump “You’re fired!”

Both were hit with bullets, bled from assassination attempts and continued on.

  111. No winners in stupid tariffs and trade wars.

“A recent survey by Abacus Data suggested that around 36% of Canadians would support retaliating to US tariffs, while a Leger poll indicated that 56% of Canadians want the federal government to take a hard line and make no more concessions.

Canadians frustrated with the US tariffs have already chosen to avoid travelling there. The boycott has meant a loss of about C$3.3bn ($2.35bn; £1.75bn) in travel revenue for the US last year.

A decision by most provinces to remove US alcohol from store shelves has hammered that sector.

Based on US government trade data, US wine exports to Canada fell 78% year over year, a $357m loss in export value. The US distillers association reported similar numbers – saying provincial bans have caused exports of American spirits to drop by more than 70%”
