Primary Run-off Day in Texas

  2. If the Dems were running a serious candidate in Texas I would be deeply worried about Paxton and all his flaws.

But they decided to run Talarico instead, a guy who is not exactly a great fit for Texas…wants to stop everyone from eating beef, and wants to grab everybody’s guns. A guy who preaches that Jesus was woke and loved abortion, and on it goes. Talarico is a cheap dollar store holiday fruitcake.

I like that WW 2 documentary did not pull any punches about how bad Stalin F’d up by killing most of the military leaders in the purge before the war or that he was a drunk p*ssy hiding out when the war started. All this was known but I wondered if they would try to diminish it.”

I watched the 2 hours. I thought it was well done.

Hanks seems just a narrator and not a commentator, nothing woke so far or reinventing history.

I agree there is nothing there to make Stalin look good, he got hoodwinked by Hitler and Moscow was saved by the mud, not him. He gets credit for the transfer of the 400 k troops from the Far East but had the Germans been able to launch the operation 4 weeks earlier and implemented their original plan both Leningrad and Moscow would have fallen.

But in my view the Russians would have eventually pushed the Germans back anyway because since they were willing to sacrifice 8 million soldiers what is 4 or 5 million more.

Hitler could have had all of Poland, Alsace, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, most of Yugoslavia, a piece of Ukraine and a sphere of influence much greater than that had he stopped the war and negotiated a settlement.

Had he done that, Germany and the US would be the superpowers today.

Tehran only wants to collect fees from ships transiting Hormuz, not tolls.

“Vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz will need to pay fees for “navigational services,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Monday.

Such payments for transiting the waterway were not tolls, he said at a press briefing.

“The services that are provided, navigational services, in addition to the measures necessary to protect the environment of the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf, and the Sea of Oman, require the collection of certain fees,” Baghaei said, adding that Tehran was “not seeking to collect tolls.”

  14. And speaking of people who come up with some scam to avoid paying taxes and finding ways to defraud the government… here is a situation involving my old flame from college who unceremoniously dumped me and were back with her old longterm hometown boyfriend…

They have kived for decades in KY. Both in late 70s. Husband is a top tax attorney.

A couple years ago they sold their home($650,000 real current value) to a property company that has existed on paper only for 30 years. The company has NEVER bought or sold a single property for its entire existence. The president of the company is the wife of the tax attorney (and my old girlfriend I had planned to marry…)

    Purchase price was $960,000. WTF?

AND the layer and wife continue to reside there just as before…

My suspicion is that somehow this a tax dodge to get out of paying capital gains tax on the house they bought 30 years ago for $290,000.

I guess they use their invesent money to buy the house from themselves for an inflated value. The “reality company” (whose only officer is mother wife) gets the $950,000 from lawyer husband and gives it back to husband (and herself) to buy the house. They then take the capital gain part and buy more property or pay off mortgages on their children’s homes and probably give under the table favorable terms for children to repay them monthly. Then, in a few years when the lawyer and his wife both die, the kids sell the family home in KY for $750,000 and have no tax liability since it was sold at a loss…(less that the $960,000 it was bought for).

    Like

  15. I further suspect that they pay monthly “rent” to the property/reality “company” owned by the WIFE which in essence is merely a paper game where they are paying monthly money to themselves.

When the “fake business” sells the very nice home at some eventual point, it will sell at less than $960,000 so there will be no tax liability on the sale.

Can anyone come up with any other possibilities as to this strange financial arrangement?

(don’t ask me how I stumbled across what I shared above. All I will say is that the real estate transactions are public record.)

Both these savings accounts grew to be substantial amounts. When it came time to purchase a new car for wife or I, we would not borrow theoney from a band or fina.ce the car through the car dealer.

We would borrow the money needed from our boys’ “college” accounts and we would keep records and pay theoney back into the college accounts including 5 % interest. Do the same thing when we wanted to add a major addition and do other renovations on our home.

Plus I did the actual construction, along with hiring a couple teachers friends to help.

We always borrowed from our own accounts and “got” a MUCH better interest rate…which we were paying back to ourselves…

I hope not! Nonetheless, the vote is being chopped up with Bass and Raman sharing the far left vote, while Platt (a Republican) and Adam Miller (a democrat) are fighting for the more moderate vote. Platt has had some nationally recognized ads catching the sentiment of voters in a creative, unconventional way. However, like Paxton, he has a past weighing him down, and muddying the sensible ideas he is putting out there. Miller is a rich, pleasant, entrepreneur type, who still has the underpinnings of a progressive democrat hiding in some of his speeches.

The estimate is that it will now cost Rs $250 million to elect Paxton, money that could be spent on other races.

“For more than a year, Republicans beseeched President Donald Trump’s advisers in the White House with a simple ask: if he couldn’t find his way to endorsing Sen. John Cornyn, could he at least keep his mouth shut?

Of course, he could not. Trump last week endorsed Cornyn’s primary opponent in Texas, state Attorney General Ken Paxton, and on Tuesday Paxton made it through his contentious, costly run-off and into the general election this November. Senate Republicans spent $90 million on defending their amiable colleague and sinking the scandal-soaked Paxton. They failed, and are now left with the jarring reality that they had hoped to avoid: $250 million. That’s the internal price tag being circulated among Republicans for the task of helping Paxton to hold the seat—all at the expense of chasing flipping Democratic seats in places like Georgia, Michigan, or New Hampshire.

The grass roots are energized to hold both the House and Senate”

    zzzzz…

The problem is that in most swing races the grass roots don’t decide the election.

Now that the “grass roots” came out to defeat the “RINO”, I bet a lot of them don’t bother to vote for Paxton in the GE.

    Their work is done.

Also, let’s see what the Dems have been holding back regarding Paxton. The guy is a ticking bomb waiting to blow up at any time.

No guarantee new scandals won’t appear.

Of course, Talarico is in the same situation. He has said so many idiotic things it is hard to believe there is not more out there.

Paxton has to define Talarico as an enemy of Texas BBQ.

That would be a fatal wound.

  111. A quarter of a billion to sve Paxton is hyperbole. Mark Halperin had Cunningham and Graves on 2-Way yesterday or today, and they covered all of Talarico’s weaknesses and how he will have trouble recovering from his own words, as well as Texas’ long history of electing morally imperfect people (plenty worse than the vile Paxton, whom I despise as a human being) who fit the zeitgeist. Dems would have been statistically better off nominating Jasmine Ratchet, she was a screwball but also a known quantity, and some folks down there likke a cuckoo straight shooter. Talarico is overfllwig with estrogen and veganism, he won’t make it to 50%+1.

  113. Paxton may have new stuff come out, but it’s hard to see wha could be worse than what already has come out. Talarico, however, still has a lot of vulnerabilities that can be exploited, much like like avalanche of stuff that is headed for Platner up in Maine.

Not true. There are a few Republican Senators with the sense to realize how terribly shitty the SAVE act is.
