I am concerned about the Indie number, that needs to be addressed over the next few months, but the Dems are doing their level best to scare off moderates and Indies over the 80-20 issues like immigration, Trans stuff, and now Voter ID. Rs don’t have to outright win the suburbs nationally, and the Dem margin is artificially inflated by big wins in the LA/SF basins, Chicagoland, Atlanta, MD/DC/NOVA, and NYC outside of Long Island. Rs do well enough in other suburbs to keep the topline close most of the time.

The AA margin is typical, expect Rs to top out around 15-17 at best. HIspanics are at about the usual spot for downballot races, maybe a tad under, so if we can pull up a few points, that won’t be a great setback, either (and I’ll bet that with improving economy stats, we lose them by only ten at worst).

The government’s latest Consumer Price Index report showed inflation slowed to an annual rate of 2.4 percent in January, down from 2.7 percent in December.

That was the lowest level in nine months, and matched the level economists had predicted.

So-called ‘core’ inflation – which strips out food and gas because they swing up and down more sharply – edged down to 2.4 percent from 2.6 percent. That would mark the lowest core reading in nearly five years, according to FactSet.”

Despite the ‘hot’ whisper numbers (and 4 previous Januarys in a row of upside surprises), headline consumer price inflation came in cooler than expected in January (+0.2% MoM vs +0.3% expected). That pulled the headline CPI down dramatically from +2.7% to +2.4% – near the lowest in 4 years

There is no driver for the Fed to cut interest rates; the bias should still be for maintaining the fed funds rate above the neutral level.

As far as supply-side expansion is concerned, Tina would be correct that it would allow for non-inflationary growth. However, supply side growth requires businesses to increase investment – which they are not doing. Fixed investment grew very slowly during 2025 – less than 1% in the most recent quarter for which BEA has released data (3Q GDP).

To increase investment, businesses need stable expectations for the future – and tariff levels by dartboard is not a great way to accomplish that. If Trump can stop throwing tariff darts, his moves to reduce environmental costs and government interference should help the supply side expand.

There’s no evidence there was ever a human trafficking ring, no matter how hard Democrats wish it into existence. Obviously, if Donald Trump were implicated in this “list” they keep talking about, it would have been released in its entirety years ago. It also turns out a lot of the victims weren’t underage. I’m sorry I have to say that, but many were adults who participated in prostitution. These people refuse to have their names revealed, and Democrats and guys like Thomas Massie take their word for it. It leaves people thinking these “victims” were underage. Worked many hours today dusting and vacuuming, peeling potatoes, washing dishes, etc. to get ready for it this evening.

ALSO, running to insurance co to pick up ins. card for the new car to prove we now have insurance on it.

Then off to bank to give them that. Then bank says, Hert still has not emailed us the bill of sale (or whatever you want to call it since we still have not actually exchanged any money for iot) so I call Hertz in Baltimore. Tell salesman AGAIN what in need him to send to bank and Cc me on his email. He says give me about half an hour and It should be taken care of.

An hour or so passes. No email. Call Baltimore Hertz. They say well if you are not financing it here, then that changes things. (contrary to what they told us last Sat.). Will there be a lien on the car from your bank. I says I do not think the CAR will have a lien on it. I think the CD I am putting up for collateral will secure the loan.

Call bank. They say the car is not being used to secure the loan, the CD is. Banks says, to get your money today, we HAVE to have a copy of bill of sale (or the estimated total cost broken down) from Hertz.

Call Hertz and tell them that. Hertz manager says, even though the CAR is not being used to secure the loan, the CD is so your loan from your bank still has a lien on it. ME: What difference does that make if I am bringing you two certified checks for the total price of the vehicle (whatever that is, since you refuse to tell us in writing what the total $$ amt is)? MNGR: We have to record any lien from any lender that is on any moneys coming from any loan to pay for your car. And we then have to charge you an extra fee (he never says how much and I do not ask).

WHY would a place that sells cars charge You MORE, for them doing LESS paperwork during the sale?

Manager also offers that “we hardly ever sell any car for cash (certified checks that involved no loan to obtain the money). We have to get special permission from higher ups. Very rare.”

Now on last SAT. when we were there, Hertz had about 100 cars on the lot and their service bay were all FULL of cars being readied for sales. MOST cars on the lot were still socked in with LOTS of ice and snow. To treat drive a particular car would require shoveling out 5 or 6 more cars to GET TO the one you wanted to test drive. The salesman took 20 minutes to shovel out one for my son to test drive right next to a plowed road around the building.

ADDITIONALLY, they had another 50-70 cars that just came in in the last few days from the airport to get ready for sale and put on the lot–WHERE THEY HAD NO ROOM TO PUT ANY MORE CARS.

So it looks like this is the end of our adventure to but the car at Hertz. They won’t send a bill of sale copy to bank. Bank if ready to give is the loan, but not without the copy of bill of sale. Hertz will charge us some additional FEE for having some of the certified check money that that’s a lien on it from a CD. I used as payment. But are reluctant to tell us how much that fee is to add to the top secret bill of sale total price that THEY HAVE NEVER SHOW SON AND I.

    Unfricken beleivable.

I am strongly considering a long letter to HERTZ corporate.

Now, tomorrow I have to contact bank to fill them in (and cancel all their and my work), and the ins agent to cancel that policy and undue all of their and my work to get it in the first place.

The scandal is not that powerful people behaved badly in private—history shows many such examples—but that they did so with a confidence rooted in the belief they were insulated from the consequences of their behavior.

They moved through a transnational elite culture that had largely severed itself from ordinary moral constraints, legal accountability, and civic obligation. That culture did not merely tolerate Epstein but normalized him.

This echoes the point Christopher Lasch made decades ago, long before private islands and hedge-fund philanthropy became familiar symbols of elite excess. In his 1994 book “The Revolt of the Elites,” Lasch argued that the modern American ruling classes had stopped seeing themselves as stewards of a shared national project. Instead, they increasingly saw themselves as a mobile, globalized caste, educated in the same institutions, moving through the same cities, governed by the same tastes, and primarily accountable only to each other. Citizenship was seen as a minor inconvenience. Nationhood and patriotism were just sentimental relics from less enlightened times.”

In my view, it is not complicated.

Epstein was wealthy and moved in wealthy circles.

He was a pervert and a pedophile, but that doesn’t translate into guilt by association by everyone who associated with him. The fact is probably almost no one was aware of the depths of his depravity unless they actively participated in it, and maybe not even then.

The fact he got away with his crimes for so long is an indictment of the judicial system, it is not an indictment of the entire wealthy class.

There is too much Monday morning quarterbacking in this case.

  88. I think if truth dissolved some of the mystique surrounding Epstein you would find his perversions were more like behavioral hobbies. The rich, elite, and powerful he kept company with gave him unfettered privilege to wonder and participate in corruption around the world – money laundering, bundling money for illicit purposes etc. Why he got away with it for so long will not be found in the Epstein papers – having powerful friends, who partnered with him in some of his unscrupulous ventures, gave him a pass until his usefulness became a liability.

The thousands of Jan. 6-related prosecutions pursued by the federal government in the aftermath of the riot, with some offenses only amounting to misdemeanor trespassing, were later used by the FBI to inflate the Domestic Violent Extremism threat metrics, used to justify a sweeping expansion of federal law enforcement–later catching up traditional Catholics and parents speaking at school board meetings.”

We at the Media Research Center analyzed more than 600 articles featured in the Apple News morning editions in the month of January. Which is one of the app’s most high-traffic time slots.
