For instance, the Hancock County (WV) school system that is Broke and $8 MM in the hole and may not be able to pay its teachers and other school employees for the re4st of the year…it was reported today that Hancock county has been giving ALL EMPLOYEES A BONUS TWICE A YEAR. ALSO, Hancock county hired 140 more employees than the State School Aid Formula allows. The state pays for those employees that are WITHIN the SAF and allowed, but the county has to pay for any and all employees over what is allowable in the SAF.
My county, Berkeley, is about 500 employees over the SAF allowable. But we have an excess levy that provides paying for all those school employees.

I’m still not sold on McCain, Howard. As should be obvious, I think Palin’s a phenomenal pick, but McCain strikes me as a political opportunist, and given his legislative history–which is all I have to judge him on–I’m not sure I can expect him to hold the line on the things he says he’s going to do if he beats Obama“
Well, we can see Tim drank his Kool-Aid today. While trying to give himself an orgasm over the prospect of finding something damaging to Sarah Palin, he just couldn’t resist coming on this site and laying out the Dems’ purported case against her. Are you scared, Tim? Come on, admit it, man. A doddering 70+-year-old who suddenly decided he was a traditional conservative three weeks ago outmaneuvered your Elvis reincarnation by picking a strong, accomplished woman with more experience in elective office than your Pied Piper and made your party tie itself in knots. Why are they tying themselves in knots? THEY HAVE TO ATTACK A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN WHO LOOKS LIKE A GIRL NEXT DOOR. That’s why you’re scared, and just because your fellow Marxists are doing all kinds of contortions to try to find an effective way of attacking this woman, I almost hope McCain landslides over your Leper Messiah
Many of you may not know this, but we have multiple different metrics for US inflation: 1) Our custom US CPI index with custom categories and weights that differ from the BLS CPI, currently at 1.21% Y/Y. 2) Our US PCE index, where we apply the weights and categories of the BEA PCE indexes to our price data, currently at 1.46% Y/Y. 3) and a BLS CPI Comparison Index, where we take our price data and apply the BLS weights and categories. That last index is actually 0.51% Y/Y, right now, which is even lower than our custom US CPI index. If you apply the BLS CPI methodology to millions of price data points that we collect daily, you get near-zero inflation.
I thought MD because I recall him defending Palin early on.
Since you won’t touch Walt’s comment, I also accepted the honorary A-Hole position once I started getting annual colonscopies. I figured I should let my friends at HHR give me the hose instead of the quack doctors at Tripler AMC. Make of that what you will.
Emerson and Siena found that Trump’s approval amongst Hispanics increased to +28 in the wake of the Maduro heist. I imagine Rove is referring to swingy white UMC pansies who get squeamish about such things to impress their Marxist friends, relatives, and co-workers.
The Maxwell rant was in August, I believe, was it 2013 or earlier? According to that FB link, this Maxwell would have been 62 around that time, not sure how old the Maxwell in question presented himself at HHR 1.0
I like Rove, he does have occasional good insights, but frankly I think he is a bit past his expiration date.
That being said, despite what the Cultists think, that the problem is not that enough MAGAs will vote in November because they “didn’t get all they wanted”, the problem is that Rs need the “soft Republican” and the Indy vote to win.
So they question is do Trump’s antics only really matter to the people who will vote Dem anyway in November, or is it affecting the soft R/R leaning Indy vote.
I don’t trust CNN to poll that, but I am also not convinced Rove is entirely wrong.
I imagine Rove is referring to swingy white UMC pansies who get squeamish about such things to impress their Marxist friends, relatives, and co-workers.”

Good Inflation post, Tina. Although I’m still concerned about expanded money supply from possible DOGE rebate checks or other potential pre midterm action that may drive up inflation later this year if enacted, we haven’t seen any of the predictions about material price increases play out so far in the aggregate. There are a number of economists with theories as to why, but this one from late 2025 is intriguing and you might want to give it a read. I’m not fully sure I agree with all of it but it made for an interesting read. Search for economist Régis Barnichon and Aayush Singh’s study of trade and tariff policy (Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco Working Paper 2025). After reviewing 150 years of data, across multiple nations, they found that tariffs resulted in downward pricing pressure, not higher (for various reasons discussed in the paper). Their conclusion clearly runs counter to standard trade model predictions a majority of pundits and talking heads regurgitated this past year, particularly in light of the significant reported tariff revenues collected to date . I think this study’s data showed a four percentage-point increase in the historical average tariff rate for a nation acted to reduce aggregate price inflation by about two percentage points on average. Their study showed that these results were consistent across time periods (pre-1913, interwar, post-WWII) and econometric methods. The study also warns that while tariffs initially and over the short and moderate term have not materially impacted or in fact even suppressed aggregate inflation (i.e suppliers and middlemen eating these costs as Jerome Powell discussed in November), over the longer term in some nations reviewed (not all), they eventually run the risk of fueling inflation due to supply side pressures and monetary policy complications, particularly if sustained and increased over time. Give it a read and see what you think. It’s definitely not a conventional view, but they do lay out the supporting data (which although I haven’t confirmed , none of the papers critics seem to dispute ).

I was a founding member of the HOBOs (Horny Old Bastards Organization) because Bitter and Jason would not let me in the A-Holes.
jason is in a rival gang, so he will not get my snowblower.
Besides, I need it down here in WV. I suggest Jason hook Lupita up to a plow of some sort.

Hint, same person as above
I’m still not sold on McCain, Howard. As should be obvious, I think Palin’s a phenomenal pick, but McCain strikes me as a political opportunist, and given his legislative history–which is all I have to judge him on–I’m not sure I can expect him to hold the line on the things he says he’s going to do if he beats Obama“

Ok third post from the same person.
Should be easy now except it is not.
