FL-20 Congresswoman Indicted

Here is the full statement:

“Cherfilus-McCormick, 46, and her brother Edwin Cherfilus, 51, both of Miramar, worked through their family health-care company on a FEMA-funded COVID-19 vaccination staffing contract in 2021. In July 2021, the company received an overpayment of $5 million in FEMA funds. The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to steal that $5 million and routed it through multiple accounts to disguise its source. Prosecutors allege that a substantial portion of the misappropriated funds was used as candidate contributions to Cherfilus-McCormick’s 2021 congressional campaign and for the personal benefit of the defendants. The indictment further alleges that Cherfilus-McCormick and Nadege Leblanc, 46, of Miramar, arranged additional contributions using straw donors, funneling other monies from the FEMA-funded Covid-19 contract to friends and relatives who then donated to the campaign as if using their own money. The indictment also charges Cherfilus-McCormick and her 2021 tax preparer David K. Spencer, 41, of Davie, with conspiring to file a false federal tax return. According to the indictment, they falsely claimed political spending and other personal expenses as business deductions and inflated charitable contributions in order to reduce her tax obligations.”

  2. So it’s pretty bad. People who needed FEMA funds to rebuild their lives from the ashes of a natural disaster did not get the funds because THIS piece of scum stole the money to benefit herself, her friends, and her campaign to gain power. And the cherry on top was then lying about her charitable contributions to avoid taxes. So people in need were USED TWICE by this woman. Democratic Party, the party of compassion.

  4. So…just some musings here about headlines in the news. In one place, a judge has barred the display of the ten commandments in a school setting. I guess that is one ‘book’ that the left has no problem censoring, while allowing kids to see smut in the school library.

But then in another headline, the elected officials will do nothing to stop the loud and annoying Muslim call to prayer.

So people need to be protected against even the chance of happening to see the 10 commandments, but NOT be protected from hearing LOUD MUSLIM demands that you come to the mosque to pray.

(The Center Square) – A new national poll reveals strong American voter support for eliminating the U.S. Department of Education.

The survey by the nonprofit Yes. Every Kid Foundation, released earlier this month, found 56% of registered voters support dismantling the agency, compared to 30% opposed.

The poll highlights widespread frustration with federal overreach in education. Voters described the department as “disconnected from classrooms and bureaucratic,” with 87% trusting parents to make the best decisions for their children.

“Voters are telling Washington something unmistakable: Families, not bureaucrats, should be the center of education decision-making,” Matt Frendewey, vice president of strategy, said in an email to The Center Square. “When people learn they can keep every dollar, maintain every protection and still reduce bureaucracy, a majority supports transforming the Department of Education. The appetite for bold, family-first change is larger than D.C. realizes.”

    Good news if true.

Then I thought “forgivable” meant I was just getting $10k for free and I didn’t want a handout. But I am sure there must have been hundreds of thousands of people who did apply, and probably many were not legitimate. If I remember, you didn’t have to prove you actually had a business or that your income was affected, only that you were submitting the application as truthful.

Stronger climate actions will create stronger and fairer economic systems. Strong climate actions and policies; both are an investment in a more just and stable world. We walk alongside scientists, leaders, and pastors of every nation and creed.

We are guardians of creation — not rivals for its spoils. Let us send a clear and global signal together: nations standing in unwavering solidarity behind the Paris Agreement, and behind climate cooperation. He said we should deport 60 million foreigners, but he would consider Trump’s presidency a success if he deported 10 million.

So far, he has deported about 500k, with another million or so self deporting.

But the self deport number includes people who would have left anyway, so call it a million

Considering the low hanging fruit will be easier to deport (criminals and those with pending deportation orders), I think if he gets to 2 million actual deportations in his 4 years it will be an achievement.

But even if he doubled that, it would still be like 20% of the 20 million illegals that probably came in in the last 10 years (including several million during Trump’s first term).

In other words, the vast majority of illegals are not going anywhere.

He was arrested August 29, jail for 8 days, bonded out with agreement that he would go to residential recovery at one place for 8 days than, another for 6 weeks and was released to come home with us after that. But stipulations are that he goes each day to Day Report Center for 3 or 4 hours of things including drug testing, counseling sessions, go to NA/AA meetings. He is getting help in updating his resume and in securing new employment.

His court trial date for his arrest for possession of illegal substances will not be any earlier than May.

He has been doing very well in his recovery and has had no relapses and is taking his meds for depression and anxiety, sleep disorder, and meds to reduce the desire for drugs. Wife and I are now in counseling to find out how we can best help him in his recovery. I do not wish any of this on anyone, but I know many, many families have been or are going through this. Asking for prayers from any source.

I know that in many cases, a bad and chaotic home situation is the cause of, or at least is a big contributing factor, to a person’s addiction but this is not the case in his situation. We have not been enablers and have never tried to run interference to lessen the consequences of bad behavior that got him into trouble in the past (DUIs, etc.) The most frustrating thing for me is that nobody–in the court system or in the recovery treatment system where he has a case manager, therapist, counselors, and others working directly with him–NOBODY during this whole time has contacted us to get our input on (or ask us questions) of what we know about him and his personal history. Seems to me the info we have would be helpful in his road to recovery.

It did not attempt to rewrite History, it was not about elevating any narrative and it was not a political hit job as many recent series are.

I recently watched part of a series on the History Channel about the “West” narrated by Kevin Costner.

It was advertised as a “fresh look” at the colonization of the West.

The “fresh look” was basically all about the genocidal white settlers against the peaceful Indians. It was, in effect, a political narrative attempting to erase History. It was short on facts, long on proselytizing.

“Kevin Costner’s The West isn’t the usual retelling of the United States’ western expansion, because it takes the viewpoint that the US settlers were treading on an already-occupied land”

Believe me, it was more than the “viewpoint”.

But of course, none of that was mentioned in the “new perspective”.

The new perspective is that the Indians led idyllic lives in stable communities, peaceful, happy, prosperous, well fed, etc. until they uprooted/decimated by the evil settlers.

None of that is true. There were constant wars, famines, struggle against the elements, disease, etc. Average life span was 30.

But the narrative is we live on “occupied land” and need to give it back to the Indians, or what is left of them. In British Columbia, homeowners are being advised by woke judges that their deeds are worthless.

We learned–way back then–about Crispus Attucks (a Black man) being one of those who got killed at the “Boston Massacre”, we learned about Molly Pitcher who followed her husband into battle and when he got shot, then she helped to do things to help operate the cannon.

When I taught school (1969-2003) we very early on taught about women documented cases of women who disguised themselves as men and enlisted SS soldiers for the patriot cause. We taught about the fact that there were other riders besides Paul Revere that rode out to warn the British were coming, and one of them was a woman rider.

I taught how the people in the colonies were sorta divided in thirds: 1/3 favoring fighting -the Brits and getting independence, 1/3 wanting to stay loyal to the King, and 1/3 who were on the fence. I taught about how some Indian tribes helped the Americans and how some helped the British (and why). I taught about the impact on slaves in the south and how the Brits were offering freedom from slavery. I taught about the fact that there were some Blacks who were in the military forces who fought for Independence. I taught about how a significant amount of money to fund the war for independence came from certain Jewish businessmen in America. I taught about the loyalists and how thousands left the colonies and went to Canada to live. I touched on fighting “out west” between the Patriots on one side and Brits and Indians on the other (not nearly as much as Ken Burns did).

IMO, the movement for independence was carried mostly on the shoulders of key MEN (Founding Fathers) who invested of their time, talents, thoughts and ideas, and fortunes for the war and to hammer out and create a new form of government that eventually became the model for lots of the rest of the world. Many of these people (Founding Fathers) bore the brunt of the war and had their homes burned and properties seized and had immense financial loss. The American soldiers who fought, were wounded or killed were overwhelmingly white males They included many prominent and wealthy figures as well as many run of the mill people who did not have lots of wealth.
