Breaking- President Trump announces trade deal with Europe. Very pleased with terms for US –
“President Donald Trump announced that a trade deal had been reached with the European Union, indicating a resolution to the ongoing trade tensions. This deal, which was the subject of negotiations between Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, involved a 15% across-the-board tariff on most EU goods, aiming to bring stability to the transatlantic trade relationship. The agreement was seen as a significant step towards addressing the trade imbalances and reducing the uncertainty that had been affecting European Union companies.
The negotiations leading up to this deal were marked by threats of higher tariffs, with Trump initially proposing a 30% tariff on EU goods if a deal was not reached by a specific deadline. However, the final agreement settled on a lower rate, reflecting the compromise reached between the two parties. The deal was intended to provide a more predictable trade environment and was expected to be announced to the European Parliament for approval.”
– EU to purchase $750 billion in US and invest $600 billion in US – EU to purchase a “vast amount” of military equipment – EU opens up markets to US goods – 15% reciprocal tariffs
I did not see Dick Allen play. I have heard that he was not as appreciated as he should have been in the 60s in Philadelphia. Black fans loved him. White fans…it was a different time. I am glad that stupidity is gone.
Basically Trump backed down on the stupid tariffs and trade wars with the EU.
How do you figure he “backed down?” He renegotiated his threat of a higher tariff to a lower one, when the EU became more cooperative in its trade policies with the US. This is the tactic used in the majority of the deals made so far.
Devin Nunes: the Mar-o-Lago raid is key to the Russiagate grand conspiracy. “Same people continue this [Russia] hoax and raid Mar-o-Lago.” “What were they looking for? My guess it was Russia collusion hoax evidence. “And that the statute of limitations has not run out on”
Some significant trade agreements have been reached, before the August 1st deadline imposed by Trump, to circumvent high tariffs – UK, Japan, Viet Nam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and now the EU.
At the end of the day, Trump imposed 15% tariffs on the EU, far less than he had threatened. By ANY objective measure, he backed down. Of course, in this case, his backing down is a win for American consumers and a win for those that believe international commerce promotes wealth to all those who engage in it.
While not good, 15% is small enough that this tax passed on to American consumers might not be enough to kill the businesses involved.
In that sense, Trump has failed on this chapter of his war on international trade.
“After a call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the US president postponed a possible increase in tariffs on products imported into the United States until July 9. He had threatened on Friday to impose a 50% tariff starting June 1.”
President Trump just unlocked one of the biggest economies in the world. The European Union is going to open its 20 Trillion dollar market and completely accept our auto and industrial standards for the first time ever. In addition, it will purchase $750 BILLION in energy from us…
I am thinking that they make the obumbler an unindicted conspirator. It’s going to be tough to get around the intent over a presidential official act. Anyone below him (comedy, her Thighness, the penguin, and the goblin) are fair game.
But at least janzam admits “high tariffs” are stupid.
Holding out for high tariffs after the EU came to agreeable trade terms would have been “dogmatic and stupid.” However, if the EU stuck to their own unfair trade policies then those higher tariffs should have remained. High tariffs are nothing more than leverage tools to this administration. And, so far they seem to be working.
“Ukrainian morale, admirably high for much of the war, is collapsing. Back in October 2022, even after six months of violence and bloodshed, 88 per cent of Ukrainians believed that they would be a ‘flourishing country inside the EU’ within a decade. Now 47 per cent think that ‘Ukraine will be a depopulated country with a ruined economy’. A separate survey found that 70 per cent of Ukrainians also believe their leaders are using the war to enrich themselves.
Nothing is more corrosive to wartime morale than the idea that a nation’s leaders are stealing as its people fight and die. ‘Corruption kills and loses wars,’ says Kyrylo Shevchenko, a former head of Ukraine’s Central Bank, who is in exile in Austria after being charged with corruption in 2023. In recent weeks, Ukraine has been engulfed in corruption scandals. Two deputy prime ministers, minister for national unity Oleksiy Chernyshov and minister for reconstruction Oleksandr Kubrakov, have been investigated for embezzlement and treason. Zelensky has also repeatedly tried to sack Major General Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, allegedly because of his growing popularity. Only pressure from the US embassy in Kyiv prevented the sacking of one of Ukraine’s most popular generals, a serving senior European diplomat with knowledge of the case tells me.”
There are a few problems with his comments — starting with his statement there is no statute of limitations for conspiracy. That’s simply wrong.
But where this candle is going to burn brighter is using an issue I haven’t focused on until listening to this — contempt of Congress is a federal crime. Willful failure and/or refusal to respond to Cong. subpoenas, and destruction of evidence under Cong. subpoena can be both contempt and obstruction.
The Fischer decision connected to J6 made crystal clear that the 1512(c) provision deals with the destruction or impairment of the integrity of evidence relevant to a congressional proceeding.
THAT is a 20 year felony. And it can extend to hiding information relevant to a Congressional inquiry. THIS is likely worthy of a more in depth Article over on my Subway Stacker page.
Basically Zelenskyy is turning into a Putin type ruler, causing Ukrainians to turn to street protests, even though it makes them vulnerable to a harsh response from Zelenskyy. The EU, like was posted above, is also losing patience with this war.
The Russia Collusion Hoax was a false narrative purposely invented and spread using official government agency work product to first spy on the Trump campaign, and later to hamstring the new Trump Administration.
Congressional inquiries into various issues related to the Hoax have been ongoing as part of Congress’ oversight responsibilities of DOJ and the Intelligence Community.
Information now being released has never before been made public, and some of this information is being seen by current and former members of Congress for the first time.
Some of this information fit within the categories of information that Congress sought from various Executive branch agencies over the past 8 years but was never provided.
Some of the information is inconsistent with answers provided during testimony before Congressional committees by various law enforcement and intelligence agency officials over the past 8 years.
Which leads me to this question:
What if the investigation into a criminal conspiracy surrounding the Russia Collusion Hoax was not about the hoax itself, but instead looks at the ongoing effort to mislead or otherwise obstruct Congress from finding out how the Hoax itself came about, and interfere with congressional investigations into the conduct and the motives of the various actors involved? …
Basically Zelenskyy is turning into a Putin type ruler except for the invasions, targeting civilians, seizing territory to annex to Russia, kidnapping Ukrainian children, etc.
Thanks Tina for posting that . From the financial times –
“There is no hiding the fact the EU was rolled over by the Trump juggernaut, said one ambassador. “Trump worked out exactly where our pain threshold is.””
BREAKING: At this time, emergency crews and the Bomb Squad are actively investigating a suspicious package near the White House. Several streets have been shut down, and authorities are urging everyone to avoid the area until further notice”
Now 47 per cent think that ‘Ukraine will be a depopulated country with a ruined economy’.”
Yep, that is not difficult to understand considering it has been invaded, 10 million people displaced, 20% of its territory occupied, and constant bombing and missile attacks on its civilian population.
What is hard to understand is why janzam supports Putin’s war crimes in Ukraine.
John Ratcliffe just announced that the classified annex of the Durham Report will be released soon and that it will show an “FBI plan to be an accelerant to that fake Steele dossier.” So while that’s great, the obvious question is why this wasn’t in the main body of the Durham report, given that Durham’s entire job was to investigate the FBI’s role in perpetuating the Russia collusion hoax?

BREAKING: Some Europeans are currently FUMING over the European Union deal with President Trump. “Not one concession from the American side,” said the former PM of Belgium, Guy Verhofstadt. “The EU – US deal is scandalous… a disaster.” THAT’S WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR!
Trump: “The EU is going to purchase from the US $750 BILLION worth of energy…Agree to invest $600 billion. Agree to open up their countries at zero tariff. They are agreeing to purchase a vast amount of military equipment. We are agreeing that the tariff straight across for automobiles and everything else will be a straight across tariff of 15%.”
Reporters in the room at the time of the deal were shocked too. One asked: “WHAT are the US concessions? WHAT is the US giving up in the deal, if ANYTHING? The President of the European Commission – who Trump made the deal with – replied that the entire goal was to resolve the imbalance with America – *precisely* what Trump said was the problem. It’s pretty nice to have a master negotiator in charge.
If I had suggested here when Trump proposed 50% that he should back down to 15% economic isolationists like FLA2025 would have squealed like a stuck pig and whined that Trump would be a sell out traitor globalist.
But now that he settled for 15% FLA2O25 says it is the work of genius.
Yeah, and using a threat of higher tariffs as leverage to secure a trade deal that opens up European markets to US goods, and securing $100s of billions in guaranteed EU investment/ purchases in the US is “backing down”. LOL!
Here’s more complete backing down – Ursula von der Leyen says the European Union will , as part of the deal, increase cooperation with the United States by buying American energy products. “We will replace Russian gas and oil with significant purchases of US LNG, oil and nuclear fuels,” the European Commission President says in a statement. Ursula von der Leyen also called the negotiations “tough” but admitted the deal brings “stability and predictability” for both sides, and rights an untenable trade “imbalance” that previously favored the EU.
FLA2025, there will never be any common ground between us.
I believe in free trade, free markets, free enterprise. I think international commerce is a great builder of wealth and prosperity and benefits all participants. I think tariffs are the antithesis of free trade and that is why I oppose tariffs in all cases and circumstances. I don’t think anyone who believes in tariffs really believes the “negotiating stance” BS, what they believe is that tariffs are a weapon against international commerce
You don’t believe in any of that. You believe in economic isolationism and you hate free trade.
Who is fuming more about the trade deal- euro weenies or Free passers?”
I don’t know about the Putin free passers like Tina.
I actually don’t hate the deal, I am very relieved Trump got off the 50% and 30% tariff BS which would have been disastrous. I don’t know who convinced him, maybe Rubio, but in any case like I said above, I don’t look at gift horses in the mouth.
I take what I can get, and if I can’t get 0% tariff, 15% is better than anything higher.
And the energy deal is extremely positive.
Have Tina and janzam realized that is not good for their iconic hero yet?
If that is what you call starting at 50 and backing down to 15, be my guest.
In the real world, that is called caving. —————
In the real world, using a threat of higher tariffs as leverage to secure a trade deal that opens up European markets to US goods, and secures $100s of billions in guaranteed EU investment/ purchases in the US is called successful negotiating.
But hey, we have some common ground, I agree that we disagree on this.
I know Trump needs to be the center of the universe but why not just negotiate tariff deals quietly rather than declaring huge tariffs and then settling for smaller tariffs? Oh. Because Trump needs to be the center of the universe.
“A Big Apple rally in support of on-his-way-out “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert drew fewer than two dozen people Sunday — with even the NYPD cops on scene quickly calling it a day since most of the demonstrators left after just a few minutes.
Organizers said the ‘We’re With Colbert’ gathering outside the CBS Broadcast Center on Manhattan’s West Side said it was meant to be part of a nationwide call for ‘integrity.’
per Jason – FLA2025, there will never be any common ground between us.

——————-
lol! You don’t know anything about me or my beliefs. I’ve posted here a basic economic fact that tariffs aren’t always passed on to instigator country consumers and provided the data as well as examples to support this. However, that doesn’t mean I believe in “economic isolation”. I fully get the potential dangers of a tariff induced trade war and its potential effect on aggregate supply and aggregate demand as outlined by Keynes (the KindlebergerSpiral is another danger that can result if the Fed doesn’t act to address this . Kindleberger’s book, Manias, panics, and Crashes, is a must read). However, I also understand David Ricardo’s law of comparative advantage in international trade and that many of our trading partners do not allow the invisible hand to prevail, imposing significant barriers to entry for US goods. I also tend to agree with Ricardo that since negotiations have consistently failed to reverse this situation with many of our trading partners, tariffs, despite their potential (at times) negative effects, remain the only viable tool for a country to create a more strategically diversified industrial economy (remember those supply chain failures during Covid necessitating on shoring of strategic production regardless of cost) and move the world back to a more efficient allocation of its resources. They are dangerous and risky, but at times necessary.
We’ll also have to agree to disagree if you think that makes me an economic isolationist. However, I do appreciate a discussion of differing opinions without name calling.
If certified imbeciles like you and janzam figured out it was just a ploy you don’t think everyone else, including the Europeans, figured it out too?
Are you really that stupid?
Huh, rhetorical, no need to answer.
——-
Well, I missed this one and spoke to soon about name calling, lol! I guess the EU, the Japanese, the Vietnamese, the British, and about 12 other countries couldn’t figure that out because Trump’s team achieved some pretty good trade deals employing the same strategy , opening up their markets to select goods for the first time as well as forcing each to reduce their tariffs. I know, the genius of you calls that backing down and not effective negotiating. Certified Imbecile! LOL!

How do you figure he “backed down?” He renegotiated his threat of a higher tariff to a lower one, when the EU became more cooperative in its trade policies with the US. This is the tactic used in the majority of the deals made so far.

Ursula von der Leyen also called the negotiations “tough” but admitted the deal brings “stability and predictability” for both sides, and rights an untenable trade “imbalance” that previously favored the EU.
