There are tens of thousands of economists in the United States and the two writers are probably as competent as most others. The firm they work for are registered investment advisors, so their take is more from an investment perspective than a policy one.
I give them kudos for including actual data in their assessment; the piece is written well and, as you have said, is measured in its recommendations. I would note that the first bullet point on their list is the negative economic effect of the Trump tariffs.
This is something many posters on this site stubbornly refuse to admit. I note that you failed to mention their first concern in your post.
I would characterize their assessment as suggesting something like this: ‘If you are going to do something stupid that is bad for the economy, you should probably consider all of the other factors that are bad for the economy and maybe change some of those decisions.’
I would prefer that the administration not do the first stupid thing.

The problem for Dems is that the MSM doesn’t deliver their message well enough.
In an interview Friday on MSNBC’s The Last Word, Clyburn claimed the media was distorting political narratives– and that Dems are losing ground not because of the exceedingly leftward tilt of their message – but because the press isn’t properly telling its story.
“I think the message coming from the Democratic Party is a good message,” Clyburn said.
“The problem we’ve got is that we have to depend upon the media to deliver it.”

Happy Easter to you and your family as well, BillW. The “top tier” characterization is mine Bill. They are great guys that I’ve followed for a long time. Many people that I hold in high regard within my circles also say the same. Like I wrote, they are not Trumpists and it is a very fair and balanced data filled review. But the bottom line is the same, they provide an argument for proactive fed lowering of rates, consistent with what the President is saying. Add it to you pile of data and consider it accordingly. That’s the only reason why I posted it. .
“but his decisions in Iraq were based on the military assessments… no way around that.”
Uhhhhh, no.
The President decides whether to go to war, what the goals are, and when to go.
Blaming Bush’s lack of a plan after Saddam was out (and Bush was hanging a Mission Accomplished sign) on the military is the poster child of a free pass.
Jason wrote – FLA2025 finds 2 guys who agree with him, label them geniuses, and calls it a day.
You gotta love HHR
——-
Jason, you are a moron. As I wrote previously, I am not sold on their call for a precipitous drop in rates. However, these are people I respect and I posted it for BillW to show that there is a data driven argument for a contrary opinion that aligns with what President Trump is saying. .
Blaming Bush’s lack of a plan after Saddam was out (and Bush was hanging a Mission Accomplished sign) on the military is the poster child of a free pass.”
I don’t agree there was lack of a plan.
I think there were not enough boots on the ground to implement the plan.
I think the military erred in telling Bush 240k troops or whatever they went in with was enough. They were wrong.
I don’t blame Bush for believing them.
I do think he should have enacted the surge earlier.
However, these are people I respect and I posted it for BillW to show that there is a data driven argument for a contrary opinion that aligns with what President Trump is saying. .”
Don’t give me that sh-t.
You post Cultist moronic BS “aligned with what President Trump is saying” because you are too intellectually lazy to think for yourself.
Then you call fellow cultists “top tier” to pretend that somehow you are following some kind of “learned” opinion.
And admit it, you only “respect” people who think exactly like you, like a typical brainwashed imbecile.
Jason, you are definitely a moron. This is what I originally posted and these economists are not Trump “cultists” by any stretch of an imagination. But you keep bloviating, like the buffoon that you are –
originally posted –
BillW, did you read the economic assessment? It’s written by 2 top tier economists with long established track records of successful economic calls. For example, they were among the first to call out Powell’s ridiculous transitory inflation assessment and the need for the Fed to increase rates to deal with inflation. They now offer a non-TDS assessment of a deteriorating economic environment, which they say advocates for proactive, not reactive Fed action and lower Fed rates. I’m not fully sold on the need for precipitously cutting rates at this time either, but I’m always hesitant to discard a call by these guys due to their proven track record. They are also not Trumpists by any stretch of the imagination
Jason, you are a buffoon that cannot comprehend plain English. I explained their track record and why I consider them “ top tier” and I also expressed why I do not agree with their conclusion. However, since you are a moron, who just seeks to argue here from your basement, you cannot comprehend this.
You only came up with the “top tier” characterization is mine Bill” way after Bill called you on it. Before you pretending these guys were some kind of economic geniuses when really you just quote them because you think they already reflect your views.

LOl! Jason is just upset because mommy hasn’t brought tendies to his basement yet. Yeah, he’s a real self professed mental genius, as all of us here on this board can see. What a moron! LOL! You’re a real brainiac, Jason. LOL!
History has now spoken. W was wrong to start the Iraq war. It was a war of choice. Anyone with common sense can see this. Stop the this apologetic nonsense. It was a war of choice that we, the US, was told to get into.
It was the f……… reason that I changed from being a R to an I.
The first two paragraphs from the ‘top tier’ economists at Hoisington Investment Mgmt Company (bolding mine):
Five pivotal U.S. economic considerations, including tariffs, monetary policy, fiscal policy, debt overhang, and demographics, are aligning to depress economic growth for the balance of this year and into 2026. • First, the recessionary effects of tariffs, supported by compelling historical evidence and economic theory, will dominate the inflationary ones, potentially leading to a significant reduction in world trade and capital flows.
“Saddam Hussein started a war with Iran that killed 1 million people.

BillW, you’re missing the point. That’s why I posted it for you. They are not Trumpists and are not in agreement with him on a number of issues, but they do believe the Fed needs to take a proactive stance and lower interest rates. I posted it to just show that a data driven argument can be made for this. As I wrote, they are not Trumpists. Take it for what it’s worth. I thought you might enjoy the read. I wasn’t trying to tweak you. Just one fan of economic theory to the other.
Oh, i get it! These two ‘top tier economists’ just don’t know Donald Trump as well as you and Tina and Chicon do. You know that he is just establishing a negotiating position, playing 4- or 5-D chess while the rest of us are stuck in three dimensions. He has no intention of cratering the economy – he is just showing the world the Art of the Deal.
Apparently he and you have never heard of credible and non-credible threats.

LOL! This coming from the guy that consults Viracocha or his llama for his economic analysis! Hey Jason, let us know when you’re going to perform the next capacocha ceremony. What a buffoon!
OK Fla, let’s talk about the performance of the Fed and Jerome Powell for a moment. Powell has been chair of the Fed since 2018, correct? In my opinion, he has been the best chair since Greenspan and Volcker.
When the nation’s governors were shutting down the economy in fear of Covid (led by the weasel who still governs my state), Powell flooded the economy with cash – the most effective helicopter drop in recent history. This was during the time that Donald Trump was hiding behind Anthony Fauci at daily and weekly press conferences, saying things like ‘I’m not going to wear a mask, but you should’. Exemplary leadership from President Trump.
The actions of Powell and the Fed probably kept hundreds of thousands of people from starving with his prompt monetary policy. He argued in favor of stimulus as long as governors and Biden were preventing people from working. It is not an exaggeration to say that the Fed saved the economy.
However, when Congress and Biden kept dumping trillions of dollars into the economy, Powell and the Fed raised interest rates steadily until inflation stopped rising. Once inflation began to fall, he backed off on interest rates (as he should have).
Now, inflation is still above the target rate, which means Powell and the Fed should still be restrictive. The fact that this is inconvenient for Trump does not make it wrong. I sincerely hope that the Fed keeps short term rates above neutral until their target is achieved.
I am quite concerned that the Fed has stopped reducing the size of its balance sheet, still swelled from the attempts to save the housing market following the 2007-09 crash. They probably did it to prevent long rates from going any higher than 5% – which would make Trump happy if he knew anything about monetary economics.
Fla – You and I probably agree about much of this, but I don’t expect you to say so. I do expect Tina to continue to say horrible things about Jerome Powell, because that is her nature.
Billw wrote – Fla – You and I probably agree about much of this, but I don’t expect you to say so
——-_
why do you say that Bill? I’ve already said I’m not sold on precipitous rate cuts at this moment. However, I do agree with much of your economic related posts. Where I differ I have posted accordingly.
Saddam Hussein did this to his own people. Saddam Hussein did that to his own. So did Bashar-al Assad against his own Syrian people. And the following dictators either tortured, prisoned or killed their own people…. President Ali Abullah Saleh in Yemen, Uganda’ Idi Amin, Haiti’s Baby Doc Duvalier, Ethiopia’s Mengistu, and of course, Qaddafi.
Heck, I lost track how many Middle East regimes that toppled….Tunisia, Egypt. This is on top of Israel, that I recent commented. Take your choice.
Actually he killed indiscriminately. Iranians, Kurds, Kuwaitis, Saudis, Israelis. He was a threat worldwide because he wanted to blackmail the world through oil.

That’s the only reason why I posted it. .
