It’s the weekend. Get up, slackers!

  1. Trump backs down some more on tariffs on China.

Cultists will claim it is a genius move.

BREAKING: President Donald Trump’s administration exempted smartphones, computers and other electronics from its so-called reciprocal tariffs in win for Apple (and shoppers). This lowers the China tariff from 125%.”

  2. Bonchie at Redstates sums it up well:

“There are two sides to this. It does remove some leverage from the White House in trying to pressure China into a one-sided deal, given these products are some of the most lucrative exports for the communist nation. On the other hand, this relieves what would have been one of the largest pain points for Americans had these tariffs stayed in place, and political capital matters in a fight like this.”

  3. The tariff and trade war lovers do get a bone, however.

They will still be allowed to have toaster and blender prices increased in order to punish the riff raff at Wal Mart and Target.

All is not lost for the protectionists.

Phones and computers will still be made in China, but factories will be gearing up to make toasters at 3 times the price in America!

Bill Maher’s full ‘book report’ on his meeting with Trump at the White House: “As you know, 12 days ago I had dinner with President Trump, a dinner that was set up by my friend Kid Rock. Because we share a belief: That there’s gotta be something better than hurling insults from 3000 miles away.” “He laughs, including at himself. It’s not fake. Believe me as a comedian I know a fake laugh when I hear one. I thank you for them.” “I’ve had so many conversations with prominent people who were much less connected. People who don’t look you in the eye, people who don’t really listen. None of that with him.” Sadly, Bill may have lost a lot of fans from this, but he gained a lot of respect too.

  9. That wasn’t the point….it’s the fact the two could meet, be civil, and walk away with their opinions about each other still intact. It was a good example to set for others who hold 180 degree differences in their political beliefs.

  10. “I could never scuba dive. I hate being under water.”

-Slowly getting over that fear, Bitterlaw. Today was the 4th time(5th for my son, I missed one week) we went, much better. First lesson, I was a mess. Almost embarrassing. Instructor is an old neighbor, and has been doing it for over 40 years, very patient and methodical in the lessons. Still only in a pool, but a couple of the other students have been on excursions before, and they said they have learned so much more than the resorts teach you that we will be very well prepared for when we finally do go to get certified and/or take a trip.

    I agree with Milton Friedman:

“We would be benefited by dispensing with our tariffs even if other countries did not. We would of course be benefited even more if they reduce theirs but our benefiting does not require that they reduce tariffs.”

  18. Fla2025, again, I’m an independent voter but this reception that Trump got tonight is ‘rock star’ status. Never saw anything like this for Obama after he was inaugurated. And with apologies to the Kool-Aid drinking Reagan reminiscent gang, Reagan had nothing like this. And in the middle of an economic battle….wow.

  19. More anti-Reagan nonsense. Reagan won popular and EC blowouts in 1980 and 1984. Despite economic problems in his first term, Reagan’s policies lead to such a boom that he won 49 states (50 if Mondale did not cheat) in 1984. That says more about a legacy than a UFC crowd.

  21. According to state comptroller Tom DiNapoli, New York bought a staggering 247,343 medical devices, but only wound up using a laughable three pieces of equipment out of the vast horde. Worse, the waste was only compounded by the state’s utter neglect of its fiduciary duties to taxpayers. Rather than finding buyers for the once-valuable assets, bureaucrats have been content to let the equipment age and decay in warehouses. As if the erosion of the stockpiles weren’t bad enough, New York is also wasting money on storage costs.

but I hope you have a fantastic round, many hole in ones, and win the Masters today.

  23. Retlaw, funny. But no. I was actually talking about Trump. I was thinking that the Masters would be a ‘natural’ for Trump. Heck, you have the Kentucky Derby and the Indy 500 coming up next month as well. You might see him at those events, as well.

  26. I broke my right ankle 5 years ago, graduating from a knee scooter to crutches. They are exhausting, especially if they aren’t sized correctly. But once you learn how to use crutches correctly they become easier to use. I would walk around the block, increasing my rounds as I became more proficient. Some neighbors would actually cheer me on as I improved.

  29. Tina, what’s even funnier is the fact that the DOJ told the other Judge after the Supreme Court decision that the sovereign country of El Salvador has control over its citizen, the deported gang banger, and there is nothing more they can do to obtain his return. In other words, pound sand. LOL! This is the equivalent of telling the Court you’ve made your decision now go enforce it. Good stuff

  31. So there are only 2 branches of government now? Trump and Congress (but ignore Congress when it disagrees with Trump).

    Like

  32. Nah, bitter lawyer. 3 equal branches of government. Just like Andrew Jackson made clear after Worcester v. Georgia. . That aside, what more do you expect the executive branch to do in This situation? An el Salvadoran citizen is in the custody of an el Salvadoran prison. We have no right to him.

  34. Should Biden have set up Federal abortion clinics in 50 states after Dobbs. Should all student loans been forgiven after SCOTUS said no? See how that works?

  35. They’re not “ignoring” the courts. The el Salvadoran gang banger admitted in his own pleadings that he was a gang member in El Salvador, in violation of their laws. Again, what more do you expect the executive branch to do? The Judge is asking for impossible relief and the DOJ made them aware of it. Effectively, she can pound sand or try and get water from a stone. It’s all useless. The courts can’t ask or expect the executive branch to do more. She can keep ruling but it won’t matter. That’s the point but you keep listening to that music in your head.
