interesting discussion on todays CPI numbers from the Feds policy website, which call into question the widely held belief here that tariffs will automatically case an increase in consumer prices –
“Even more impressive, these good numbers occurred despite supplemental 10% tariffs on all Chinese goods, enacted February 4th, which have had time to work into the numbers. I will be interested to see next week’s January Inventories report, to see if businesses are focusing on selling down their inventories due to recession fears, or if the tariffs are mostly being absorbed by reduced margins along this supply chain. If the latter, then businesses may be adopting a lower-margin, higher-volume strategy to deal with the economic friction. Still, I wonder how much lower margins can go, since importers were already running this strategy. Wal-Mart for example has a profit margin of 2.85%.
In any case, the stagflation hypothesis took a gut punch. These data could be interpreted as supporting the normal-disinflationary-recession hypothesis OR the falling-inflation-falling-rates economic growth hypothesis.”
Interesting analysis of the CPI numbers, and the impact the tariffs may or may not have. It’s basically current day info validating a more reasoned approach, of not always counting on predictions or computer modeling to advance what can happen in the future.
Changing subjects…..
”A new report from Panama’s Migrant Authority shows a total of 408 U.S.-bound aspiring illegal immigrants and not a single Chinese national passed through the Darién Gap in February, good for a 99% decrease compared to the same month last year. February 2024’s number was above 37,000.
Activity in the Darién Gap serves as a strong indicator of how seriously foreigners view America’s immigration enforcement. The 100-mile-long jungle trail is one of the most dangerous places in the world, meaning no one in their right mind would attempt to pass through if they thought sneaking into the United States would be troublesome afterward. It wouldn’t be worth the risk.
Panamanian authorities documented a record-breaking 520,085 gap crossers in 2023, good for a monthly average above 43,000. Transit through the gap immediately halved following Donald Trump’s election and dropped by another 44% the following month. The hombres know the United States has a border again. “
“Daniel Davis, a longtime anti-Israel propagandist who has accused Israel of “ethnic cleansing” and downplayed Hamas’ October 7th massacre, has been appointed as a Deputy Director of National Intelligence in the Trump administration. Davis has spent years pushing pro-Iran and anti-Israel narratives, arguing against military action to stop Iran’s nuclear program and blaming the U.S. and Israel for “pushing” Iran toward nukes. He has defended Hamas, hosted notorious antisemites like George Galloway, Sulaiman Ahmed, and John Mearsheimer on his show, promoted the debunked Lancet study claiming a ridiculous number of casualties in Gaza, and wrote that Israel is “playing the U.S. like a cheap fiddle” and “killing kids without remorse.”
Got to love that Border crossing stat, Jan. In more good news, a deranged Ukrainiac set himself on fire while burning up a Tesla charging station. I’m hopeful that the bitterlawyer won’t let his severe case of Ukraine derangement go this far –
A masked man vandalized a Tesla charging station and attempted to burn it down using molotov cocktails in North Charleston, South Carolina, ultimately setting himself on fire in the process. The maniac spray-painted “Long live Ukraine” next to a vulgar message aimed at President Trump at the scene.
The Post and Courier reports that in a bizarre incident that unfolded in North Charleston, South Carolina, a masked Trump hater vandalized and attempted to set fire to Tesla charging stations, only to end up setting himself ablaze in the process. The incident, which took place near a Mellow Mushroom pizzeria at 4855 Tanger Outlet Blvd., has left the community stunned and authorities searching for answers.
According to witnesses, the masked individual, wearing a gray jacket or hoodie, spray-painted the message “(expletive) TRUMP LONG LIVE UKRAINE” near the bank of Tesla charging stations before proceeding with his ill-fated attempt to destroy the electric vehicle chargers. The man reportedly used beer bottles as makeshift Molotov cocktails, setting them on fire and hurling them at three charging stations. However, during this act of arson, the man inadvertently set himself on fire, with witnesses reporting flames spreading across his back.
“Here is our current status after one month: – mortgage rates are down – egg prices are down – gas prices are down – overall inflation dropping – illegal immigration stopped at the border – wages going up – foreign aid shut down – woke initiatives being removed – massive manufacturing investments ongoing.”
Ukraine continues to lose the edge in this war with Russia. The people benefiting from it continue to be weapon dealers, Ukrainian elites, any and all but the Ukrainian citizens who are ordered to fight or flee.
”There are no more cards to play, as Trump put it last month while hosting Zelensky at the White House, and now this assessment proves truer than ever.

Ukraine is losing the little bit of leverage it might have had left amid discussions toward preparing negotiations with Moscow. Russia’s Kursk is now fast being retaken, and Ukrainian forces are folding, as on Wednesday Russian troops raised their flags over the key town of Sudzha .
The central square of the town in the southwestern Kursk region was scene of where Russia’s Airborne Troops published a short aerial video showing soldiers unfurling a Russian flag as well as military unit banners. Other state media outlets subsequently featured the footage. Newsweek has underscored that Ukraine is fast “losing its trump card

Yeah, but he hasn’t given us world peace yet, so C- grade – Ukrainiac cult.
In lieu of how rapidly Russia is retaking and overtaking Ukrainian territory does it really behoove the U.S. to restart aid and intelligence sharing, extending the war, rather than letting the war come to an organic end by having the aid end.?
Chicon, It has been observed that 100 yards on the Mexican side of the border are Javalin Missile Systems from Ukraine. These have been sold on the black market to the Mexican Cartels. Meanwhile on the front lines Ukrainian soldiers are outfitted with old rusty Russian armaments. How does this translate into helping the war effort, rather than supplying goods to the black market to be distributed to oftentimes our enemies?
you agree Ukraine cannot continue to exist. Speak your power.
I’m not saying that. What I am doing is questioning the benefit, to mainly the Ukrainian citizenry, of infusing Ukraine with more weaponry when it really doesn’t have enough able and willing manpower to execute the war. On top of that, the chicanery of corruption in the Ukrainian government contributes to my concerns about throwing more aid their way.
janzam- you are saying they should be absorbed by Russia. It can become a state like it used to be when people were happier. It will be better for everyone. I totally understand what you are saying. Don’t let the globalist local lawyer here stop you.
Anon – you are not following my words, but are inserting your own sentiments instead. Being absorbed by Russia is absolutely the opposite of what I’m saying. Ending the war, with most of Ukraine’s sovereignty intact, and new elections so the people can have the opportunity to select new leadership if they want, are two changes I support.

hey bitter, side note. I thought you had a rule requiring people to use a handle or you would relabel the anonymous tag. It actually makes sense because the system is making too many anonymous tags here and it’s hard to tell people apart
One of our Anonymous cowards called me a globalist lawyer. I mocked them back by pointing out that is impossible for the U.S. to retreat from the world.
The Department of Education is getting gutted and Rosie O’Donnell has self-deported to Ireland. Now I’m even angrier that Daylight Savings Time robbed us of an hour of winning.
Hey Bitter, “organic” means natural – in the way it was used — a natural way to deal with the war without unnaturally propping it up, like we’ve been doing for 3 years. We have been a proxy, a crutch for Ukraine fomenting a war that would have ended much sooner if we weren’t sending them endless armaments. In the meantime their military is exhausted, sending middle aged and injured people back to the front lines without any reprieve. Civilians are fleeing, relocating to other countries. Corruption is prevalent as are deaths every day. To me it’s more insensitive not to acknowledge the existing frailties and only rant about Putin.
And what would that look like, Jan. Do you think Putin would have stopped before Ukraine surrendered and was no longer a sovereign nation? You view a bunch of violent trespassers as great patriots but would gladly condemn 40 million Ukrainians to be slaves of a Greater Russian Empire. That is beyond cold.
The worst part is not knowing what is going on in my leg. Is the hardware stable? Am I pushing too hard or not enough? Pain is worse at night. Thanks for asking.
The type of fracture you had Bitter will take time to no longer feel any pain. As long as there is no infection involved I think you’ll be fine. However, keeping your Dr in the loop about how your recovery is going, or pain you’re experiencing might ease your concerns. Also, I’m a believer in “muscle memory,” where one’s body remembers the injuries it has over a lifetime, and reminds you of them every once in a while with random pain. After breaking some ribs decades ago, my husband will complain of pain in the same area where they were broken to this day. The same for a broken ankle I had over 5 years ago.
Bitter, a few weeks ago he had a blood test which thankfully put him in a normal range spectrum. He’s had multiple medical issues since 2021 to deal with. Before that he rarely saw a doctor. What a difference these last 4 years have been! Thanks for asking.
I’ve actually thought a lot about your diabetes condition and keep you in my thoughts when reading anything new about this condition. I do think relatively soon a cure will be found. Stem cells may eventually be one pathway to achieve such a goal.
I am 2 months into using an insulin pump. Much better control – which is good to help prevent infection of surgical site.
I was diagnosed in 1983. Doctor said there would be a cure in 5 years. Apparently not.
I have heard of stem cells as a possible cure. However, I have already decided that if it was a cure but came from fetal stem cells/aborted babies, I will not take it.
It’s good to hear you are now adapting to your insulin pump, as earlier you seemed very frustrated with it. I was thinking more like being able to harvest your own stem cells eventually.
