Bitter, VDH made ten points in the article posted in the previous thread. Can you say if there are any you think he got wrong, and why? Or are you just going to throw childish tantrums and call people names?
The picture above is a still shot of a young man being grabbed off the streets of Ukraine, carried to an awaiting van and lifted into it, screaming, while his distraught mother (in red) was restrained by Ukrainian goons from reaching him. This is what Vance was confronting Zelenskyy with, the terror of going to war when you don’t want to. There is relatively little democracy left in Ukraine these days, with free speech, free press, religion, Martial Law extended so free elections can’t happen, in full force. But, I guess this is what Bitter and Jason call “freedom.”
Ok, well VDH is a solid writer. I think he made some solid points. If you’d like to discuss any of them, I’d be interested in why you think he’s wrong.
A security guarantee means the commitment of American troops if/when there’s a next event, which is de facto NATO membership. Anything less is not a guarantee.

He made 10 solid Putin talking points, I will grant him that.
One of the most striking things about yesterday’s Zelensky press conference was Lindsey Graham’s reaction to it. The two are old friends, but Graham disavowed him within the hour. This was more than just transactional disloyalty. It was scapegoating. Lindsey Graham knows what’s coming. Over the past three years, with the tacit support of its western patrons, the Ukrainian government has committed a remarkable number of serious crimes. The Ukrainians sold huge quantities of American weapons on the international black market at twenty cents on the dollar.
These weapons are now in the hands of armed groups around the world, including Hamas, the Mexican drug cartels and the forces now controlling Syria. God knows what the Ukrainians have done with the pathogens in American biolabs in their country. Even US intel agencies aren’t sure. The Ukrainians have also murdered a number of people in various countries in political assassinations, and tried to murder others, including American journalists and a European head of state. This is all true, and it’s all going to come out at some point. Better to start blaming it on Zelensky now.
Zelensky said it is not possible to negotiate with Putin. However, Ukraine's Ambassador Oleksandr Chalyi, who participated in peace talks with Russia, confirms Putin "tried everything" to reach a peace agreement in early 2022 (before the US & UK sabotaged the peace to get a long… pic.twitter.com/3BySBeXOgr
but he did. And that reality is where we are today. The choice it to find a way to stop the war and killing or simply allow it to continue as the meat grinder statement it is.

You come here on a daily basis to whine and compulsively lie and pretend you are being “misinterpreted” and to beg to be allowed to post any BS you want and complain you don’t get free lunches.
I guess you haven’t found anywhere you can be a scumbag liar without being banned so you are still here.
–Russia took over Crimea when Obama was president and the U.S. basically did nothing in response.
–Russia invaded Ukraine when Biden was president, probably sensing that Biden would not respond.
–The Ukes, did fight back valiantly and successfully pushed the Orks back.
–The fighting has turned into a meat grinding, WW I trench warfare type of war with no end in sight.
–the European nations provided lots of humanitarian aid and military aid, but not enough for uto actually win, just successfully defend and inflict lots of casualties on the Russian Orks. Apparently, the European nations were able to get Zelinskyy to promise/give them some financial things in return for their assistance.
–the U.S. provided lots of humanitarian aid and military aid, bur not enough for the Ukes to win…But the U.S. never bothered to get any financial repay from Zelenskyy.
–To end the fighting, Trump proposes a SEVERAL steps approach. A) FIRST, get the Ukes to sign a rare earth minerals agreement with U.S. That way, the U.S. can recoup some of the $$$ we shipped to Ukraine during the war in military and humanitarian and economic aid. B) the development of which will benefit both UKE and U.S. economies C) the potential economic collaboration will perhaps be a trip wire deterrent that would prevent Putin from invading Ukraine yet again, because an invasion of UKe would actually involve U.S. economic interests. D) Trump wants to also have further steps that would lead to a cease fire, end of the bloodshed and mayhem, and for Putin to back down, etc.
We didn’t attach such restrictions on the aid, which in any case was IN OUR INTEREST.
These were not loans to be paid back. The funds were approved by Congress and delivered without any “payback” provisions.
2 Your analysis of what Trump “wants” is ok, but lacks the fact that it is contingent upon trusting Putin, a guy that already has proven cannot be trusted. As such Trump’s “plan”, if you can call it that, is unrealistic and unfeasible.
The only way Trump’s initiative could work is if the US provides security guarantees. It does not even have to be troops on the ground. It could be a promise that if Putin violates the agreement, the US will massively arm Ukraine with offensive weapons and share intelligence that would make it easy for Ukraine to target the invaders.
Here are some other things I think we could all agree on:
–The Ukes hate the Russian Orks for what the Russians have done to them. The Ukrainians want Russia to vacate the lands they took since the invasion, as well as the “Dumbass” Region, etc, in eastern Ukraine.
–The Ukes are probably not too happy that U.S. foreign policy since the Russian takeover of Crimea has failed to stop (actually encouraged) Russian aggression and invasion.
–Russia did invade Ukraine three years ago, and that was Putin’s decision–unless you think that Ukraine started it all simple because it happened to be geographically there where Putin had a desire to be.
–But the was is a stalemate and neither side can really win militarily, so the above is a pipe dream. unless there is direct involvement of the US/NATO forces–which opens a whole new can of worms.
–There are lots of questions about the degree of corruption in Ukraine as to the funds/war materiel we have sent them.
****************
NOW, here are some legitimate points to discuss:
Firstly, Why did Zelnskyy come all the way to the U.S. to sign the minerals deal when he apparently had no intention of signing the minerals deal?
Did Z really think that he could finagle Trump to, at this time and place, give security guarantee to Ukraine?
Does Z NOT realize that this is a FIRST STEP to ending the war?
******
Secondly, has Trump (and the media) successfully explained to the American people that the minerals deal is just the FIRST STEP in bringing about an end to the fighting in Ukraine?
**********
Thirdly, has Trump’s typical goofiness in his speaking of saying nice things about Putin and calling Z a dictator helped CAUSE Zelinskyy to dig in his heels and push back in signing the minerals deal?
“Your analysis of what Trump “wants” is ok, but lacks the fact that it is contingent upon trusting Putin, a guy that already has proven cannot be trusted. As such Trump’s “plan”, if you can call it that, is unrealistic and unfeasible.”
jason,
I totally agree that Putin cannot be trusted.
***********************
The only way Trump’s initiative could work is if the US provides security guarantees. It does not even have to be troops on the ground. It could be a promise that if Putin violates the agreement, the US will massively arm Ukraine with offensive weapons and share intelligence that would make it easy for Ukraine to target the invaders.”
jason,
I fully understand the desire for UKraine to get security guarantee. Putin is adamantly opposed to Ukraine gaining NATO membership. Some NATO members seem like they are opposed to Ukraine joining NATO. Trump has said that Ukraine becoming a member of NATO is a no-go. If NATO(and U.S. as part of NATO) is not willing to provide security guarantee, I fully agree with you that the U.S. needs to provide the security guarantee as you outlined above.
The Ukrainiacs can now add moderate Republican Michael Goodwin to the Putinista “cult” list for his article this morning entitled “Dems lead Zelensky, Ukraine off a cliff with pressure to reject mineral deal”.
Key excerpt – “Before meeting Trump, Zelensky met with anti-Trump Democrats who advised him to reject the terms of the mineral deal the president was offering, according to Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).
“Just finished a meeting with President Zelensky here in Washington. He confirmed that the Ukrainian people will not support a fake peace agreement where Putin gets everything he wants and there are no security arrangements for Ukraine,” Murphy’s office posted on X at 11:15 a.m. Friday.
He attached a picture of Zelensky at a conference table, with Murphy seated on the opposite side.
Forty minutes later, Zelensky arrived at the White House, where Trump met his car, smiled, shook his hand and walked him into the Oval Office. The meeting, as the world now knows, quickly went off the rails and ended with Trump angrily ejecting the arrogant ingrate from the White House.
The earlier meeting with Dems undercuts wild claims that Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance staged an ambush. In fact, it was Zelensky who came with an ulterior motive.
The purpose of the meeting was to sign the mineral agreement he and Trump representatives had negotiated. He had twice refused to sign it after promising to, and thanks to Murphy, we now know he had no intention of signing it Friday.
By listening to the nakedly partisan advice of Dems instead of dealing forthrightly with the current president, Zelensky betrayed his countrymen and, for now at least, leaves them without the military and diplomatic protection that only America can provide.
Good luck counting on Britain, France and the rest of Europe to save Ukraine. Maybe the Germans will send strudel.

–Russia pay big amount of reparations to Ukraine for the death and destruction they have caused there so they can rebuilt
–Russia have to pull out of Crimea
Russian have to pull out of the Dunbass and other Eastern regions they were occupying before the Russians invaded 3 years ago.
Russian troops be prosecuted for war crimes.

Has Zelenskyy said what “security guarantee” means to him?
Jason says that sending stuff, money and intelligence would suffice. Does Z agree? If not, do we promise American troops?
Also, Zelenskyy has at least twice said he’d sign the minerals deal before refusing to do so. Now he’s saying again he will sign it. C’mon man….
