  1. Been offline dealing with the fires etc. Was evacuated Thursday, then came back over the weekend. Now, power is out again, and there could potentially be another evacuation over the next two days depending on how the wind shifts.

Sorry, that dog isn’t hunting. These fires were completely preventable and have nothing to do with climate change.

The fires could have been prevented with….

    a) leadership

    b) water

    c) funding

    d) personnel

    e) equipment

    f) willingness

LA and California in general lack all of these things.

  4. DW, so far, the cause of each fire that has been ascertained successfully has been arson. The Palisades fire is outstanding in that regard, but the word today is that evidence on a hiking trail is leading investigators towards arson in that blaze as well. Homeless crackpots, for the most part, I don’t know of any terror related arson.

Funny, I remember the whole climate change line during the Australian fires a few years back, and those turned out to be man made as well.

This morning there was talk about the Palisades fire starting from a New Year’s Eve fire that was extinguished, but whose embedded embers were reactivated a week later, spreading rapidly to other areas by the hurricane-like Santa Ana winds. Residents called the FD when they first saw a fire restarting from the same place it had recently been put out. However, the LAFD did not address the call quickly, like it had done a week before.

  25. A long time good friend (76 yrs old) from college days and this couple has been in our supper club for about 25 years or more)… he drove himself 25 miles to a doctor appointment last Wednesday, then drove home. He and I were on the college baseball team together.

5 a.m. Saturday morning he ended up being taken to the hospital by another friend. Others had to help him get it the car and buckle his seat belt. Now has severe dementia issues. Cannot tell his cell phone from the TV remote; does not know what year it is; keeps talking about how he needs to get out of this bed and go get some gasoline; has lost mobility and cannot walk or even stand, dress himself, etc. Still in the hospital, awaiting placement to a nursing home…

To top it off, his wife is a mess. Sobs all the time, threatens to just get the .45 off the shelf and shoot herself; she is overwhelmed with all this. We got her to call her therapist and get an appointment. She stopped driving, but they still have TWO cars. Of course, nursing home will all have to be private pay. I predict she will also end up in a nursing home within months. She has no clue about their finances and their five bank accounts, etc. She wants to stay at the hospital with him all the time…”he needs me”….But she really has trouble just taking care of herself.

We have been spending time with them at the hospital. And other friends have been providing transportation (25 miles one way) to get his wife to and from the hospital to visit him and deal with the doctors and hosp. social worker to a nursing home secure placement.

On Sunday, the doctor simply wanted to release him to GO HOME, as none of their tests showed anything other than dementia. DESPITE the fact that HE NOW CANNOT WALK AND NEEDS TO HAVE WRIST RESTRAINTS ON to keep him in the bed and his wife cannot possibly take care of him at home.

Weiss, in the report, blasted the president’s decision to pardon but also the press release that was sent out to the public that “criticized the prosecution of his son as ‘selective,’ ‘unfair,’ ‘infected’ by ‘raw politics,’ and a ‘miscarriage of justice.’”

“This statement is gratuitous and wrong,” Weiss wrote in his report. “Other presidents have pardoned family members, but in doing so, none have taken the occasion as an opportunity to malign the public servants at the Department of Justice based solely on false accusations.”

If confirmed, I’m going to work with President Trump — and this committee — to:

      1. Restore the Warrior Ethos to the Pentagon and throughout our fighting force; in doing so, we will reestablish trust in our military — and address the recruiting, retention and readiness crisis in our ranks. The strength of our military is our unity — our shared purpose — not our differences.
      2. Rebuild our Military, always matching threats to capabilities; this includes reviving our defense industrial base, reforming the acquisition process (no more “Valley of Death” for new defense companies), modernizing our nuclear triad, ensuring the Pentagon can pass an audit, and rapidly fielding emerging technologies.
      3. Reestablish Deterrence. First and foremost, we will defend our homeland — our borders and our skies. Second, we will work with our partners and allies to deter aggression in the Indo-Pacific from the communist Chinese. Finally, we will responsibly end wars to ensure we can prioritize our resources — and reorient to larger threats. We can no longer count on “reputational deterrence” — we need real deterrence.

      @realDonaldTrump

For far too long, we have relied on taxing our Great People using the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Through soft and pathetically weak Trade agreements, the American Economy has delivered growth and prosperity to the World, while taxing ourselves. It is time for that to change. I am today announcing that I will create the EXTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE to collect our Tariffs, Duties, and all Revenue that come from Foreign sources. We will begin charging those that make money off of us with Trade, and they will start paying, FINALLY, their fair share. January 20, 2025, will be the birth date of the External Revenue Service. 70. Jackie Rosen’s questions were combative and absurd. If not for a questionable number of ballots coming in after the fact in Nevada’s recent election, Brown would be the new senator from that state, rather than Rosen.

Interesting question for our legal expert Bitter.

If the prosecution can determine in advance that a defendant will be convicted, why hold trials?

“Maybe the Deep State employees who will be driven out by Trump”

      There is a problem.

The Deep State employees might be so deep that you wouldn’t know if they are driven out or not.

Also, you would assume the Deep State has its own revenue sources, so it could be the Deep State employees will remain employed Trump or no Trump.

I am putting out the word that I am hiring Deep Staters.

It’s not really true, but I want to get their resumes in those cool (llama skin?) leather binders with “DS” stitched in gold thread.

But watch the free passers cry if he eliminates department of no education and no energy.

That Special Report illustrates the size of the bullet (not a bullet, but an ICBM) Trump (and we) dodged by winning this election.

    80. Sorry, stoner. A president can discuss election fraud and ask doj to look into it.

Sending competing slate of electors is also not a crime. Lawsuits were still pending in several states, such as in Georgia. Had trump prevailed in those suits and not sent a competing slate, he would have lost those electoral votes.

    83. Tina, the DC case would have resulted in a guilty verdict, no matter the charge or evidence. Then it would have been overturned on appeal, considering the Supreme Court’s earlier Trump case.

    85. Pete Hegseth had a number of men, representing special force units, congregating in DC for this hearing supporting him. 50 of them were sitting in the hearing, and after the questioning surrounding him for photos etc. From here there will be a vote from the committee, after which the final vote from the floor. If he is confirmed, Hegseth could be on his way to the Pentagon as the new SOD next week, marking the beginning of the end of DEI protocols.

    86. What a succinct, pertinent-to-the-job of SOD, set of questions by Sheehan directed at Hegseth. It was wonderful clip to watch, after enduring the claptrap strategy of the Dems only meant to smear him.

Before the election, I said that beyond Trump winning, what I most wanted was to get rid of fake moderates Tester and Casey.

Too bad Rosen survived by a whisker, she and Cortez Masto won by a combined 20k votes, probably illegally harvested after election day.

    92. Latest on my friend Don…

No bed restraints now, but still trying unsuccessfully to get out of bed whenever he is awake.

Still majorly confused. Does not know where he is. Thinks he is late for a doctor appointment. Says, :I am in bad shape here…”. Can sing the words to Beach Boy songs when prompted. Memory of who was on his high school baseball team and what position they played comes and goes.

      Still cannot stand or walk.

He says he has no pain anywhere. Yet for months he complained about bad back pains. But when I ask about (weeks/months ago if he has he tried a heating pad or ice pack,…”well, no…” and never made any effort to try either.) His back hurts him so bad that he cannot stand to cook for he and wife–and he was the main cook who prided himself on cooking, but also cannot remember how to cook and what in in the recipes he kept in his head. Last week Cindy said he was sitting there eating salmon out of a can when she was on the phone with a friend. She never cooked much, if any.

Somehow gets his hospital gown off and kick his sheet off and lays there in bed stark naked but has no compunction of laying there without a stitch on while talking with other males or females.

Eats very little. Now giving Ativan sedating meds by IV now, since he is refusing to take pills. Was sleeping almost the whole time today.

The five bank accounts they have–one is for the house payment, one is for the car payment. Not sure of the others. Cindy lost her debit card some time ago, does have a credit card but Don never lets her use it. He always wrote checks and handled all finances. Not sure if Cindy is on the accounts to also be able to write checks.

Hosp. still has not found a nursing home to discharge him to. Nursing homes say he has to be unrestrained for 48 hours, be able to feed himself, will not need anyone to sit with him overnight, etc., etc.

Lot of hand holding for the emotionally distraught wife is needed. My wife has been arranging for us and others to transport her to the hosp in the morning, and back home in the evening, as well as giving advice, and talking her off the ledge.

    95. Walt, it may be that your friend had a stroke. I have lots of empathy for his wife, in that she was not more involved with their finances. It’s always an overwhelming ordeal to have your other half so helpless. However, becoming instantly responsible for all the household tasks, that you have to learn on the fly, is an extremely difficult feat. Having you and your wife helping them both out will be of great benefit for them.
