Sears is a damm good candidate. Spanberger is the typical elitist coastal liberal.

I am not surprised this might be a close race.

If you want diversity, Sears checks a lot of boxes. Black, immigrant, woman, veteran. Her only problem is she is not a Democrat

Ahhhh, for that you need the Ancient Inca Art of Fortune Telling.

I see a tall dark handsome, huh, wait, that is not for him. Ahh, yes, I see travel to foreign lands, an illness that will pass, and some good things and some bad things.

  9. Youngkin could run for governor again in 2029. He could run for senate.

I don’t think the GOP will win any of the Virginia races this fall. The only hope is if Trump truly drains the swamp, and 300,000 federal bureaucrats who live in Northern Virginia move back to the CA and Chicago cesspools from where they came.

  10. So the defense of the LA Mayor is to blame the wind. Its the wind…you hear me, the WIND! And of course once this is all over, the WIND will be blamed as stronger due to climate change, and the climate change has not been stopped due to EVIL REPUBLICANS, and the only way to make this not happen again is to send back to power the same evil, corrupt, and incompetent leaders who are the REAL culprits here, and voters will eat it up and vote for more of the same destructive policies that burned down their houses this week.

    Nah, just kidding.

They approved $25 million to “prepare for legal battles with the Trump Administration”.

  17. Wind is not the only possible reason to be afraid of fires in LA. They spiked fire-fighting budgets, hoping the wind won’t blow. But if there was a 7.0 earthquake, that would also cause fires that they would not have the resources to put out.

People are opening up their homes to friends, evacuated family members, or in my case strangers. 2000 plus homes/apartments gone, along with so many commercial sites, schools, churches.

  23. Government officials are a parody of how competent leadership should act. Fire fighters do have more resources to work with now, and are stemming the spread of the fires more effectively. However, the brass really have no idea what’s going on or what to do. Our scant Republican representation in the CA legislature are attempting to call a special session to brainstorm remedies. But, with a hard core dem majority, it almost seems like a futile gesture.

”Since Bass began her long trip back, her responses to reporters’ questions have oscillated between stone-faced silence and stammering, borderline-incoherent answers. Bass couldn’t even tell residents the name of the website where emergency resources could be found—sticking to a script provided by aides, she said it could be found at “URL.” Since her reemergence, she has done nothing to restore public trust.

But this isn’t just about Bass. A great city can survive a bad mayor, or even a series of bad mayors. This is a story about the failure of California to prevent, or capably mitigate, a long-predicted catastrophe, and how a state that was once a model of good governance came to prioritize the boutique concerns of ambitious politicians over the basics of what government must do.

There are always excuses in moments like these, some more valid than others. California is, in a sense, built to burn: Its warm climate and vast woodlands can, and often are, a deadly combination. Any city, regardless of who’s running it, would struggle with winds reaching 100 miles per hour, especially one sitting on a tinderbox of dry vegetation. Climate change exacerbates the issue.

But none of that explains how one of America’s great cities—the biggest in the fifth-largest economy in the world—is burning to the ground. The failure here, at heart, is an entirely human one.”

  37. SCOTUS did not stop the sentencing from going in the NY state case. Not sure what Trump’s lawyers argued to try to get standing in Federal court. It does not appear to be a final opinion on the underlying case or preclude appeal of the sentencing itself. Sorry, Cult. You want a political decision and not a legal one.

The argument that Trump can’t be sentenced because is President-elect ignores the precedent about the protection of a sitting President. If Trump’s argument was accepted, why not extend it to General Election candidates for President? Or primary candidates? Or anybody in line to become President?

  55. Janzam, which, if accurate, this would make this ‘natural disaster’ the second most expensive disaster in American history….following Hurricane Katrina at just a below $200 billion.

However, it is my belief that this will surpass Katrina and even approach the largest expensive disasters in human history….the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan ($360 billion) but will not eclipse the Chernobyl disaster ($700 billion).
