I don’t think the GOP will win any of the Virginia races this fall. The only hope is if Trump truly drains the swamp, and 300,000 federal bureaucrats who live in Northern Virginia move back to the CA and Chicago cesspools from where they came.

Wind is not the only possible reason to be afraid of fires in LA. They spiked fire-fighting budgets, hoping the wind won’t blow. But if there was a 7.0 earthquake, that would also cause fires that they would not have the resources to put out.

Lots of stunned people trying to adapt after either losing everything or being suffocated by a weather inversion producing thick smoke. People are opening up their homes to friends, evacuated family members, or in my case strangers. 2000 plus homes/apartments gone, along with so many commercial sites, schools, churches.

Government officials are a parody of how competent leadership should act. Fire fighters do have more resources to work with now, and are stemming the spread of the fires more effectively. However, the brass really have no idea what’s going on or what to do. Our scant Republican representation in the CA legislature are attempting to call a special session to brainstorm remedies. But, with a hard core dem majority, it almost seems like a futile gesture.

We feel blessed that the fire was halted north of us. But, it’s been harsh hearing so many stories of loss. It’s the first time we’ve ever faced evacuation orders, having to choose what to take with us. Humbling to be sure…..

SCOTUS did not stop the sentencing from going in the NY state case. Not sure what Trump’s lawyers argued to try to get standing in Federal court. It does not appear to be a final opinion on the underlying case or preclude appeal of the sentencing itself. Sorry, Cult. You want a political decision and not a legal one.
The argument that Trump can’t be sentenced because is President-elect ignores the precedent about the protection of a sitting President. If Trump’s argument was accepted, why not extend it to General Election candidates for President? Or primary candidates? Or anybody in line to become President?

Janzam, which, if accurate, this would make this ‘natural disaster’ the second most expensive disaster in American history….following Hurricane Katrina at just a below $200 billion.
However, it is my belief that this will surpass Katrina and even approach the largest expensive disasters in human history….the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan ($360 billion) but will not eclipse the Chernobyl disaster ($700 billion).
