And yet, when the same is considered for J6 protesters, people begin to parse their “crimes,” in determining who deserves such a pardon. Never mind that Hunter has a track record of criminality a mile long, he has a blanket pardon forgiving 11 years of treachery. Amazing how little grace is given for 1 controversial day, where people were protesting an election most, to this day, viewed as fraudulently conducted.

Everyone who was there knew they were trespassing, let’s get real.

Not sure the “invited in” is accurate either. At some point after the Capitol was breached and some officers allowed the trespassers in, no longer trying to impede access.

  40. The analogy is off. It is reasonable to think that a policeman telling you it is okay to enter the Capitol (where the public is often allowed) means it is okay to enter the Capitol.

It is not reasonable to believe the cop telling you to rob a bank.

That said, with most crimes it is necessary to prove intent. How do you prove intent to commit a crime if law enforcement says “come on in”? It also smacks of entrapment.

The damage to property and assaults are a different matter. They deserve punishment. Of course, so did the thousands of George Floyd protesters who did the same. The lack of prosecution of the latter at least suggests selective prosecution to me.

  41. There is a dc court decision by a judge tossing charges for a j6er being waved into the capitol:

McFadden acquitted defendant Matthew Martin, a contractor from New Mexico, of all four misdemeanor charges the Justice Department filed against him. After the ruling, Martin told CBS News, “I am very happy for the judge’s verdict. And I’m eager to get my life back together.”

In his ruling, McFadden cited Martin’s demeanor while inside the Capitol, noting that he did not appear to be screaming or crowding anybody. McFadden also referenced video evidence indicating police didn’t physically block Martin as he entered the building, and one even appeared to possibly be waving him inside.

  80. Lets talk about America’s #1 problem right NOW.

    ****************************************************

Putting up Christmas decorations, lights, trees, etc.

FIRST, it is always COLD when our wives decide it is time to put up the outside greenery roping on the 60 feet of deck railing, roping around the front and back doors, bows put on the roping, wreaths hung above all the outside windows and above the garage door, lights on all the deck roping and lights on all the roping around the doors, lights on the 5 big bushes in front of the house, and two spotlights positioned on the front lawn facing the house.

That means getting all this stuff out of storage, then carting it upstairs to the appropriate staging areas. Then we have to check all the strands of lights. AND INVARIABLY, there are ALWAYS one or two strands of lights that HALF work.

ALL of these lights are made in CHINA (same place that gave us CROWVID, makes all the fentanyl that kills many Americas, and also the maker of lots of sneakers sold to America with 30 feet of shoestrings that never stays tied and comes loose and kills or maims many Americans when they trip). Yes the lights are CHEAP ($2.99 fior a strand of 100 lights), But they seem to not last very long. You use them for about a month one year, put them away and then you can BET THE F-ing FARM that some of the strands will have the first or second half of the lights not work.

SO, you spend 6 or 7 hours looking through boxes of Christmas decorations for those teeny tiny packages of teeny tine little fuses that you can TRY to open the teeny tiny door on the plug and replace the 2 fuses there. GOOD F-ing LUCK on getting those suckers out and replacing them with the NEW ones that came with the strings of lights you bought LAST year. Since there are no tools ever made in the WORLD to extract those tiny fuses, you spend 2 hours using all sorts of things trying to get the old fuses out and putting new ones in, only to find when you do, that half off the strand of lights still does not work. F-ing Chinese.

THEN, you go to put the two spotlights in the front yard. One of the spotlight holders was REPAIRED last YEAR (by me) to make it work. BUT it now breaks AGAIN and there is no way to drill a new hole in the swivel spike that holds the light into the ground and the light fixture itself. So you try to jury rig something–which TAKES HOURS of looking, finding the right sized pieces of metal you can bend and make into a strap, bolts and taps that FIT that bolt, drill holes in metal pieces. SO, then when you finish putting the one you just repaired into the ground and the other one–when you adjust and tighten the wing nut–BREAKS. BAck to look for a washer of the right size to fix THAT one…

    *************************************

I am convinced that all of this fooling with Christmas outside decorations causes many deaths from falling off ladders, heart attacks, strokes, murders, suicides, alcoholism, road rage, constipation, loose bowels, depression, etc.

Plus, you cannot do all this outside work with gloves on, so I ALWAYS end up with my fingers getting deep cracks right next to the finger nails and thumb nails and it is quite painful.

Almost as painful as having to listen to all the Christmas music the wife likes to have playing for a whole month…

I think an hour or two of Christmas music a week is plenty.

    *****************************************************************

I will keep you posted on how the INSIDE decorations (including unboxing the tree and putting it up again) go here this afternoon and tomorrow….

I can tell you that putting the electric and//or battery candles in each and every window went this morning. The putting of the candles is one of my jobs.

I plug in the candles to make sure they work. They do. But as soon as I lift them off the floor to put in the window, the bulbs go out. I fiddle and work with them. THEN it DAWNS on me that LAST YEAR we got these bulbs/candles or whatever that only come on when it is dark outside (or dark enough when they are on the floor when I am testing them). HOW IS SOMEONE AS OLD AS ME supposed to remember that we got these light/dark sensitive bulbs last year?

Well, I would share more with you here on how the decorating is going, but now that I have eaten lunch, the wife’s list of verbal commands of the next, and the next, and the next decorating chore thing she wants me to do is getting longer and longer…

    JOY TO THE….WORLD!

Went to first barricade (Canal Street), showed my paperwork, license registration etc, opened up back door, used liftgate to put dogs onto truck, had purposely loaded truck so that middle aisle was clear all the way to the nose of the truck for inspection. Officers waived us thru.

Several blocks south, was pulled over at by other cops, federal in nature, as we were approaching 26 Federal Plaza (FBI). Same procedure. Mentioned to officers that we had already been searched and inspected. Officer in charge said “we are the superior authority here, just sit in your truck until I ask you to speak again.”

Sen. Joni Ernst, who is reportedly lobbying to replace Hegseth as Trump’s SecDef nominee, supports the transing of the military and requiring women to be eligible for the draft. Not entirely surprising she prefers the status quo to Pete Hegseth.

She seems perfect, according to some “conservatives”.

Lloyd Austin — Yes Merrick Garland — Yes Alejandro Mayorkas — No Pete Buttigieg — Yes He voted against a few others — the Dems are likely to vote against every Trump nominee for the top 5-6 most important jobs. Trump needs to make this a “Are you with me or against me” vote for Graham and some of the others, making it clear there is no bridge back.

I definitely support Ernst in that women should be allowed in combat, so I agree with her more than Hegeseth. I think Hegeseth’s opposition to women in combat is antiquated and unreasonable.

As for trans, I have a feeling that opposition to transgender people in the military is like gays in the military, it is a losing battle as social mores change and it becomes more acceptable. In ten years, whatever is decided now, they will probably be accepted. As Ernst said, they will bleed red the same

I am not against transgender people and I don’t think they should be discriminated against. My opposition is to subjecting children to irreversible “treatments” and the attempt to shut out parents from the issue. I absolutely opposing gender affirming treatment to minors, especially irreversible treatment.

I am not sure that allowing transgenders in the military is necessarily “woke”. There are a lot more “woke” things going on in the military than that.

In any case, I have no issue with Ernst’s right to her views, and I have no issues on her exercising her constitutional role to vet Trump’s nominees.

Most women can crank out sit-ups and do the run or bike tests if they are reasonably healthy, but the push or pull up measures upper body strength, and is more reflective of what we need in our fighting forces in the field.

If they can’t do that, they can be limited to support roles like logistics, admin, and technical work.

Only fully transitioned people should be allowed in the service – not one’s wanting freebie gender surgeries, which are not only costly but can take years to fully recover from. I also think trans soldiers should stick to wearing a proper uniform, rather than the flamboyant costuming often worn by trans – too demoralizing IMO.

I have mixed feelings too about women in combat. Their physical capacity to assist men is more limiting, as is their monthly cycles which can be dehabilitating. There are so many positions women can fill in the military which don’t have to involve being on the battlefield.

As for women in the military, if they can serve in combat without reducing the ability to kill as many of our enemies as possible, go for it.
