You know, over the last 50 years, the Dems seem to thrive on finding “oppressed” groups and rally to support them and their “issues”. All kinds of minorities…Blacks. women, Puerto Ricans, Latinos, immigrants in general–legal or illegal, Arab minorities, gay, and lesbians, transgenders, poor people, homeless, those who claim to have fluid sexual identity, those triggered by the national anthem or the display of the U.S flag, people who need support animals with them on airplanes, etc. etc.
The Ds always want to create a special class of people with special protections and laws and policies that bend over backwards to make these groups happy. The problem with this is that is that it creates a special enabled class of folk who seem to have it better that the regular John or Jane Doe who is in none of these special groups. They special classes of folks get lots of government assistance, etc. (illegal immigrants are the best example today) to “right the wrongs of pas bad treatment or discrimination or whatever. But the Ds always seem to want to go further and farther in the “protection” of these groups. Until the “protection” becomes an irritant to the John and Jane Does who see these protected classes getting way more federal assistance than all the Johns and Janes do, and J and J feels the over protection has gotten to the point that it imperils the views, thoughts and beliefs of J and J Doe. I’m one cat dude that voted for Trump…have four furry feline friends I adopted from a .org that came from abused, neglected and abandoned circumstances. Not to blown my own horn but these beautiful animals, if given the chance, returns the love tenfold that they get.
The more I read about the Pete Hegseth’s attacks the more it seems like it’s just another orchestrated ploy by the Dems to deny him confirmation. Most of the claims made about him have either proven to be nonsense or were supplied by anonymous people. The people, however, refuting the charges have gone on the record, vociferously supporting his qualifications for the sec of defense job. I hope he doesn’t step down, bowing out due to the character assassination gambit.
Just noticed that Trump’s lead in Wisconsin recently grew from a win of 0.8 to 0.9.
Rare that the Republican gains at this point. But we need to Florida-ize the races in other states. Just count the votes and report them. Its not hard. It used to be done when all they had was mechanical machines.
Dems have ZERO credibility on any attack. They are the party that literally advocates for tricking trick little boys into getting their penises and testicles cut off, and then they want to raise spurious attacks against Republicans.
Sean Parnell, in an interview done today, say the boots on the ground military support Hegseth. It’s the usual industrial military complex, however, who do not want anyone challenging their power or any changes in general. The Pentagon has failed all recent audits, indicating a complete mismanagement of the funds being allotted to it. New and younger eyes on how the Pentagon is run is needed, as well as leadership at the top – someone who the rank and file military can relate to.
Biden was right to pardon his son. Trump would have made Hunter a target. | OpinionWith the pardon of his son Hunter, President Joe Biden reminded the nation of the balance between accountability and compassion.
I feel bad about Hegeseth. He is being “Borked” and “Kavanaughed”. Doesn’t deserve it. He is not my first choice because I see him lacking experience and there are more qualified people, but I think he is a serious guy who can do the job nonetheless.
But if the votes aren’t there a protracted fight that will be a losing effort in the end it is not in the interest of the new administration.
This is bigger than Hegeseth, and there are too many things to accomplish to get into a huge distraction fighting for someone who won’t be confirmed.
The Dems and the MSM are throwing around a lot of words about Hegeseth. Maybe he can sue some people if he has to withdraw.
If its any consolation, it doesn’t seem like there are more than 3 R senators at the moment against him. His odds at Polymarket have risen to 65%.
That was not the Maria Bautista quote I wanted to post, although that one was ridiculous too
Check this out.
Critics have argued that the pardon sets a bad precedent, but the opposite is true. President Biden’s pardon of Hunter was not an act of favoritism; it was a demonstration of leadership in the face of difficult circumstances.
Jason sez…I feel bad about Hegeseth. He is being “Borked” and “Kavanaughed”
Excellent post. Politics ain’t beanbag, and people get hurt. I think he should fight for him if it’s only three “no’s”, but should cut bait if he can’t get to 50 soon.
This is purely a wild guess, but I suspect Trump wants a deal with Putin on Ukraine bigly. He doesn’t like to lose negotiations; so I suspect he’ll tell Vlad he’s gonna squeeze the crap out of Russia economically, tell him funding and weapons shipments will increase, and that Ukraine will have no restrictions on how to use the weapons. He’s probably already told him something like this. We’ll see.
-Why? If they want to take a stand against a Trump nominee, get them on record for what their issue is.”
So if you have enough Senators saying they will not confirm him, you want a protracted losing fight on ONE nominee just to find out what the “issues are”?
I can tell you right now what the issues are:
They think he lacks experience
They think the accusations against him disqualify him.
Agree or not with that, that is what will be alleged. It won’t change anything, he won’t be confirmed, but will the distraction and waste of time and the MSM circus be worth it?
Sometimes you have to cut your losses. Trump was very smart to cut his losses with Gaetz, probably should do the same with Hegeseth.
You are not going to win every fight, choose which ones are worth it and dying on the hill for.
jason – agree on most of the points, but I would want to look at how those voting NAY had voted on earlier picks for that same position in other administrations, to see if they are consistent. Competence should trump “lacks experience”, and the accusations should be confirmed if they want to rely on that to disqualify.
It seems like it is always the same people who publicize their position against. Pure power games. I think sometimes it is worthwhile to make them show they are confident of their position, and not just bluffing.
This is purely a wild guess, but I suspect Trump wants a deal with Putin on Ukraine bigly. I hate to agree with Chicon on anything, but I have said as much. That is why I disagree with Bitter and have maintained I doubt very much Trump is going to surrender Ukraine on his watch.
The carrot stick approach is what I have long suspected he will use. He will try to buy Putin off with promises of reducing sanctions and other incentives while threatening him with further (and better) weapon shipments to Ukraine. With Zelensky, he will threaten the opposite, if he doesn’t want a deal then Trump will cut him off.
I oppose this strategy because it rewards Putin for his invasion and war crimes, and doesn’t hold him accountable. If I was Trump, I would tell Putin to retreat to the pre-invasion border or face a massive increase in aid to Ukraine (yes, I realize this is not a popular idea for the Trump base, but I am not the Trump base).
If the deal is to freeze the battle lines where they are, Trump better have a really good plan in place to keep the Russian from further incursions. In my view, NATO protection is the only sure way to guarantee it, but there could be other bilateral deals with European nations and of course arming Ukraine to the teeth will be necessary.
jason – agree on most of the points, but I would want to look at how those voting NAY had voted on earlier picks for that same position in other administrations, to see if they are consistent.”
Not relevant. Apples and oranges, really. Subjectively you could allege some of Biden’s picks were more qualified than Trump’s. That certainly is the case of Garland vs. Gaetz if you want to compare their resumes.
Same with Lloyd Austin. Like him or not, he was the Commanding General of the 10th Mtn Division in Afghanistan. Commanding Officer of US Forces in Iraq and Commanding General of the Multinational Force in Iraq. Army Vice Chief of Staff. Head of US Central Command (CENTCOMM).
I think he has been a horrible, woke Sec of Defense. But realistically, barring any scandals, he was a difficult nominee to vote against.
So if a Senator who voted for him now opposed Hegeseth on different grounds, I don’t really see the hypocrisy.
Zzzz… your attack on profits show how willing you are to sell out any “conservative” principles.
Yes, all profits are “good” because it is the reason for opening and operating a business. Despite you idiotic opposition to them, companies can only expand and invest new technologies and products through profits. Profits is what investors look for and profits determine shareholder value and dividends.
You might disagree on the purpose of some products. You might not be interested in some products being made, or you might have an opinion that they are harmful or unnecessary. Whatever.
I oppose gender affirming care for minors, but I think adults can make their own choices.
And companies that offer those choices should have the right to profits like any other company.
Do I think doctors who provide gender affirming care to minors are scumbags? Yes. Same as what I think of a lot of trial lawyers bringing frivolous lawsuits and costing society billions in higher insurance premiums.
But do I oppose their right to do so if it is legal? No.
If you oppose leftists trying to shut down oil companies for destroying the world, you shouldn’t be advocating for shutting down companies offering gender affirming care, and neither should you attack either one for wanting to make a profit.
Chicon will now say I favor sending US troops to Ukraine in 3, 2, 1…
No, I don’t.
However, in a post war scenario where the US is offering security guarantees to Ukraine, if Ukraine was under the NATO umbrella for example, then I would not oppose US troops there as part of a multinational force anymore than I oppose them in Germany, Italy, and other countries where they are stationed.
Hegseth is making the rounds and his case against the dem/media character assassination being used against him so he is forced off the nomination. Today he appeared on Megyn Kelly’s popular podcast and was convincing. I hope Trump sticks with him like he did with Kavanaugh. And, if Hegseth shows enough resolve to fight for the nomination I think Trump will not throw him overboard, as Trump admires fighters.
Putin is in a better position now than he was in before going to war with Ukraine. The sanctions have not hurt him. He has forged new alliances with our enemies, making him more formidable. His troops have been battle-hardened and tested, unlike America’s military. His military isn’t infiltrated or diluted by trans or gender issues either, as Putin disallows DEI, CRT influences in his military. Russia also continues to manufacture their own armaments, has an unstoppable missile on line, and doesn’t appear to be in financial arrears like we are. Consequently, I think any negotiations Trump does will have the weaker country giving up the most, and that would be Ukraine.
“But do I oppose their right to do so if it is legal? No.”
-Jason, it has been repeated several times, so please stop ignoring what I wrote, and other posters pointed out the same distinction as well:
The issue I raised about Big Pharma were profits made through special legislation/government mandates which were shown to be exclusionary to specific entities, not against profits in general.
And in this area, with “gender-affirming care”, it has been well established that several hospital chains (Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, one in Texas) lied and/or covered up about the numbers of surgeries they were doing, and there were legal cases against some of them.
So, the legality of these profits is still in question.
Society MUST protect the innocence of children. NO young BOY has ever ejaculated and therefore has NO IDEA WHAT IT FEELS LIKE to function sexually as a man. Therefore, he has no capacity to decide whether or not he wants this function he will only experience after reaching puberty.
It is evil for a society to take this away from a boy. It is mutilation. It is sterilization. It is a lie that the surgeon can make him a functioning girl.
Even so, Sotomayor said doing this surgery has the SAME risk as popping an aspirin.
God help us. We have a SCOTUS member who literally has no functioning brain.
Biden’s appointee did no better saying that outlawing the freedom of evil adults to pressure a boy into having his private parts lopped off is the same as outlawing interracial marriage.
This issue truly is the EVIL of our age. I cannot believe we are even having this discussion.
Putin is in a better position now than he was in before going to war with Ukraine.”
Written by a true Putin supporter, who can never see any wrong in her hero.
Disgusting and despicable.
Putin is not in a “better position”. Hundreds of thousands have of Russians have been killed, many more maimed and wounded. Russia has lost probably hundreds of billions in equipment. Almost a million, many highly educated, productive young workers fled the country to avoid conscription. The sanction have absolutely hurt the the average Russian, of course they haven’t hurt him. Prices of food has soared, the ruble has collapsed, the banking sector is in big trouble. The 2025 outlook for the Russian economy is very weak.
you must have been listening to the Supreme Court hearings today, DW. What did other justices say, like Barrett or Gorsche, if you were listening to them?
Sotohatewhiteymor and Kenjadumb are literally two of dumbest justices on the court. I disagree with Souter 2.0 and Beotchy, but I cannot say they are dumb.
Those expectations from Andrei Kostin, CEO of Russia’s second-largest lender, VTB.
” Russia is grappling with high inflation and the central bank has already hiked its key rate to 21%.
It’s at its highest level in over 20 years.
And it’s drawn criticism from businesses struggling with high borrowing costs.
In an interview with Reuters, Kostin cautiously criticised the central bank’s hawkish monetary stance.
He added that Western sanctions, high spending on the military, and elevated high inflationary expectations made the benchmark interest rate less effective.”
I read where Gateway Pundit profits $3 million a year from their conspiracy theories and other garbage. People like Janzam and Tina who click on it stimulate more conspiracy theories and trash stories.
I am sure NYC opposes it making a profit, however, so there is that.
During the first two years of the war Russia’s weapon manufacturing kept wages high and unemployment low. Russia was also able to circumvent sanctions by finding alternate sources for their oil. Even now Russia’s GDP is higher than the US’s, and the ruble has decreased relatively little in the midst of a strong dollar. Inflation seems to be something concerning for the Russian economy in the future. But, overall, I would say our economy is more stretched beyond its limits than what Russia’s appears to be.
“Moscow now expects gross domestic product (GDP) to climb 3.9% in 2024, up from 2.8% in the forecast it issued in April, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said last week.
The baseline forecasts from the economy ministry are used by the finance ministry for its budget calculations.
The government’s expectations now exceed those of analysts polled by Reuters, who see GDP growth of 3.6% in 2024.
Russia now expects to record two years of strong economic growth, improving on a 3.6% expansion in 2023 and following a 1.2% contraction in 2022 as Moscow grappled with a barrage of Western sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine.”
“I am sure NYC opposes it making a profit, however, so there is that.”
-2 things:
1) is there a special rule which allows them to profit while disallowing other sites to profit from those “conspiracy theories”?
2) please link to “their conspiracy theories and other garbage” that you post about. Prove that they are posting such stories. I asked this of you once before, and you never posted anything to prove your point. Reminder: I do not go to that site except when prompted by others. Not out of animus towards it, just not one of my regular sites.
Jason sez…However, in a post war scenario where the US is offering security guarantees to Ukraine, if Ukraine was under the NATO umbrella for example, then I would not oppose US troops there as part of a multinational force.
No disagreement here. I wouldn’t add more European/NATO troops overall, but I’d have no problem shifting/rotating units to Ukraine if the post-woke warfighters think it important.
-So, 3 of the 6 who are wavering on Hegseth confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson, a person who can’t define the word “woman”, for the Supreme Court.
Those 3, plus Curtis, Graham and Ernst should be made to vote NAY. I say let’s get to hearings and let them make their statements publicly for all to see.
If Trump removes another pick, the media will simply move on to another one.

It’s the usual industrial military complex, however, who do not want anyone challenging their power or any changes in general. New and younger eyes on how the Pentagon is run is needed, as well as leadership at the top – someone who the rank and file military can relate to.

But if the votes aren’t there a protracted fight that will be a losing effort in the end it is not in the interest of the new administration.
This is bigger than Hegeseth, and there are too many things to accomplish to get into a huge distraction fighting for someone who won’t be confirmed.

I can tell you right now what the issues are:
Agree or not with that, that is what will be alleged. It won’t change anything, he won’t be confirmed, but will the distraction and waste of time and the MSM circus be worth it?

It seems like it is always the same people who publicize their position against. Pure power games. I think sometimes it is worthwhile to make them show they are confident of their position, and not just bluffing.

Whatever.

Inflation seems to be something concerning for the Russian economy in the future. But, overall, I would say our economy is more stretched beyond its limits than what Russia’s appears to be.
https://www.reuters.com/markets/europe/russia-raises-main-economic-forecasts-sees-higher-year-end-inflation-2024-09-06/
