    Central/West VA: Trump 56, Harris 40

Trump’s rally near Roanoke will help him do better in Central/West VA. And he can do much better than 56/40

I also don’t buy those Tidewater numbers at all. Virginia Beach and Chesapeake are likely to go to Trump very narrowly, and their combined population is nearly that of Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, and Portsmouth combined.

And the congressional district dead last in early voting happens to include the cities of Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, and Portsmouth.

We have have to be prepared for the fact the ED gap will be smaller because more Rs are voting early and fewer Dems are VBM.

But if you buy the argument that many of the Dem VBM in 2020 were low propensity voters who only voted because they could do it by mail or have their ballot harvested and many won’t bother to show up on ED, then the net result will favor Rs.

But I don’t get too excited over “gains in EV for Rs” because of the big effort to make that happen

    Like

  64. is that a joke Vic? starting pitchers must go six innings? What absurd idea is that trying to resolve?

A more entertaining rule that would increase the scoring of runs is there are nine position players and nine innings. Make the rule each position player has to switch to the mound and pitch one inning.

What if the starting pitcher develops a problem in the fourth inning? He has to then risk a worse injury ending his career because he has to pitch two more? And if they allow for an injury exception, now we have to endure medical reviews by doctor-umpires to see if the pitcher qualifies to exit early.

This might be enough to drive me out of the sport altogether.

    Ridiculous.

Its not likely, but You could potentially have a starting pitcher throw 120 pitches in 5 innings and still not give up 4 runs. What are you supposed to do, leave him out there and blow his arm up? Pitchers these days regularly reach the 100 pitch mark at five or six innings these days.

In other words, an umpiring circus!

Umpire-Doctors on the field to evaluate whether its a real injury and if its bad enough to pull the pitcher. And what happens when the first three innings are all 39 pitches, rather than 40. Who keeps track of all this? The ump on the field or some ump in a booth?

A much much simpler proposal: Let the team’s manager and pitching coach decide when the pitcher has had enough, and when to pull him. Would be much easier. Oh yeah, that’s the existing rule.

  81. DW. found out those are suggestions by the so called “baseball experts” like little Jeff Passan and other ESPN writers who have never picked up a baseball, much less played the game.

Sadly though, Tony Clark, MLBPA Union chief is also pushing, saying, it would actually ensure less injuries because now pitchers won’t be throwing at 102mph in the first and second inning because they know they only need to go four innings…and now, repertoire would matter (actually not a bad thing, seeing pitchers actually pitch a game rather than throw so its either a strikeout of homer).

“The league has discussed a limit to the size of pitching staffs and the double-hook DH, according to sources familiar with the discussion. There is some belief around the game, however, that one idea could be a panacea: requiring starting pitchers to go at least six innings every time they take the mound.”

“”You would have to push command over stuff,” Arizona Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen said. “Pushing [pitching to] contact would be the biggest thing to prepare guys to throw six innings on a consistent basis.

“There would have to be some pullback on velocity, though that’s a tough thing, because that’s where you get outs.”

To make up for no longer being able to rely on max velocity to overwhelm hitters, the hope is that pitchers would then focus on the finer points of the craft to outmaneuver batters.

“It’s different pitch mixes, different attack plans, different looks,” Chicago Cubs GM Carter Hawkins said. “It might weed out the guy that isn’t as efficient.”

While executives were more than willing to dive into a hypothetical of how this rule would play out, they aren’t sure if pitchers can “go backward” from the current state of pitching, as one assistant GM put it.

“The genie is out of the bottle when it comes to max velocity. I’m not sure it can go back in, no matter the rules.

Some execs mentioned specific smaller changes they would be interested in exploring before something so drastic. Hazen pointed to a five-batter minimum for relievers that could organically force managers to leave starters in the game longer, as well as give more recovery time to relievers who might pitch longer in each game but not as often…”

There are a few problems with this “Harris would need to win indies by X margin” argument RE: Nevada.

    1. Recent polls overall (MC exception) don’t show her winning indies. AARP: Trump +7 (H2H,) Trump +9 (Full Ballot) Atlas: Trump +5 InsiderAdv: Trump +1 Rasmussen: Trump +4 WSJ: Trump +Ridiculous Margin

    2. Enthusiasm impacts the turnout of indy leaners, and “who” votes makes the margin.

So, unless partisan DEMs get more enthusiastic and turn out, indies who lean DEM might not vote at rates comparable to indies who lean REP.

We don’t really want Trump closing the gap in CA very much because that has implications on the value of the national polls.

In other words the more votes Kamala “wastes” in CA, the more likely a tied or +1 advantage in national poles means she will lose the blue wall.

The Marxists at the New Republic think Harris is too centrist and beholden to the Never Trumpers.

They think if she loses the Dems should give up on Centrism AND Never Trumpers.

    Hilarious.

“But like it or not, if Harris bottles this race at the end, it’s going to end up serving as a kind of referendum on a centrist style of Democratic politics that simply cannot, in 2024, afford to fail on its own terms. And should it fail, it will take the Never Trump Republicans down with it. So perhaps here in the final act, it’s time for a parting of the ways. The Never Trump set should perhaps do the thing they should have done a better job at when Trump first emerged: tend to their knitting. Let them get their souls to the polls and quietly convince any remaining persuadable voters to disembark the Trump train. And let Harris be what she needs to be: a person who typically champions the kinds of things Never Trump Republicans hate, running against a guy who isn’t really all that different from the politicians they have historically supported.”
