The Return to Butler event I think is a pivot point for the Trump’s campaign. It was less a rally than a consolidation of people coming together around a man they wanted to win the election. It was reflective, had good will, was spectacularly organized with patriotic visuals and higher security measures everywhere. Elon Musk, sitting with Vance, got up and gave a seriously articulate and rousing speech. He definitely has super credibility for all he has done post Helene, especially in comparison to FEMA and Harris.
Genuine empathy was expressed throughout the speeches for the people hurt and one killed at the 7/13 rally, creating an amicable closeness most political events can never achieve. At the end, it was dusk, people were still energized, lingering around because of an opera singer on stage. I got the feeling that the success of today’s event would infuse the Trump campaign right up to Election Day.
The irony is I also do not like Trump personally. I haven’t liked him since 2016. i don’t like his speeches, while sometimes Im glad he doesn’t take crap from Liberals, I do wish he wouldn’t shoot himself (and Conservatives) in the foot so much with his mouth. I think he’s a Republican by convenience as well…but
He governed to the Right of the Bush family, and won the Presidency once, which is more than Romney or McCain did. In office he did a good job, and a great job on the judiciary picks.
Ill be glad when he’s gone in 2028, but hope he governs as conservatively as he did the first term.
With all that said, I don’t feel the need to constantly trash him, trash people who go to his rallies, trash his rallies, just because I don’t like him personally. But that’s me.
Accepting the reality that Trumps ascension as a nineties democrat is the final death blow to Reagan conservatism has done wonders to my political state of being. A genuine conservative will never be President again…unless JD Vance changes his positions again.
Bitter, you couldn’t be more correct. And you, my friend, are consistent. You have not failed to vote for him two times before, and will vote for him again.

Nah. Both GWB and GWHB were ideological conservatives and they governed as such.
Trump is a big government big spender crony capitalist and a protectionist and an isolationist. His trade policies were more to the left than Obama or even Biden. He put another 7 trillion on the debt.
Trump, for political reasons rather than conviction, did implement some conservative policies. Energy, judicial appointments. Tax cuts. Deregulation. I give him credit for all that.
But “governed as a conservative” is something Trump cultists throw around as if it was true.
because Jason, I have to admit I have seen a lot of growth from him, as well as a propensity to listen to reason. The Vance of 2016 is not the Vance of 2024.
I am hoping that when he has to deal with foreign leaders, when he sees the importance and impact foreign policy has on domestic policy, he will grow up, and abandon the Pauliac/Populist isolationist tendencies
Jeff – We can only hope they do if he wins the nomination. I guess we will see. If Trump wins, maybe Vance does morph into the type of Conservative we hope he could be. If not, we have RDS as well, who I think would make a great President
Neither Vance nor Trump, for that matter, are “good old boy” types of Republican politicians. They have switched roles with the Dems – represent more working class needs than the elites; don’t frame economical growth around war; supportive of pragmatic policies helping Americans rather than ladder-climbing with globalists in achieving more power. If Trump wins, stays in power for 4 years with policies well-received and viewed as successful by the people, then Vance will be well-positioned to run for POTUS in 2028.
Jan is fully mired in the cult. She knows all the buzzwords. I wish her and her husband well but she is too far gone politically to respect. I believe in the idea of a big tent but it’s not big enough for both of us. When Trump is gone, he will leave no ideology behind.

I would be fine with rds or Vance. Vance is a great communicator, rds is goood, but not great. Rds is a great planner/facilitator of getting gubment to move. If trump wins (and it is looking more and more likely), Vance will be in a good position to get the nomination.
The Bushes did a pretty good job appointing judges (with the big exception of Souter). John Roberts has been far from perfect. No doubt about that. But Trump’s picks have not been perfect either. One doesn’t have to do with the other, as the money going to Lebanon was not in a pot available for North Carolina, and I think there is a need in both places for help. i have no objection to the aid. I want to make that clear.
I only want to say, that optically, I can’t not fathom why she posted about it proudly when there is so much death, destruction and suffering in her own country.

Barrett is competent, smart and way more conservative than most any other justice we could get.
Amen. I am happy with the court as it stands, though I have to be honest, I think Roberts has a penchant to want the court to please people, and it shows in his decision. He knows in his heart he was wrong about Obamacare.
With that said, I also like that all six “conservative” justices don’t vote lock step all the time. They take the time to review cases, look at the merits, at the filings, at the testimony, and make an impartial decision.
You can not say the same about the leftist women on the court. You can pick out 1000 decisions, and on 998 of them all three will vote the same exact way. They should honestly just have automatic checkmarks for these three “Justices” and save them the time of having to go to hearings. Everyone knows where they will come down before a decision is ever made.
”I only want to say, that optically, I can’t not fathom why she posted about it proudly when there is so much death, destruction and suffering in her own country.”

The present GOP has nothing to do with Reagan conservatism, and Trump has nothing to do with Reagan.
I reconciled myself to that fact years ago when I left the GOP. Reagan conservatism was inspiring. Anyone except cult members inspired by Trump? I don’t mean inspired to wave flags at his rallies, I mean inspired to fight for conservative principles or ideals?
“The Washington Post is out with new reporting on how the Mossad got those pagers into the hands of Hezbollah. Hezbollah operatives were enticed by the bulky, rugged pagers that were pitched to them because they felt they could survive battlefield conditions. They were waterproof and had an oversized battery that could operate for MONTHS without charging. The pagers also allowed encrypted messages to be sent but there was a catch. In order for the encrypted message to be read, the user had to press two buttons at the same time. That’s how the Mossad insured that most Hezbollah members had the pagers in their hands when they exploded. The pagers contained such a tiny amount of the explosive PETN that even if Hezbollah broke open the pagers, they wouldn’t be able to detect its presence. So where did the idea come from? The Mossad already got walkie talkies in the hands of Hezbollah back in 2015. The walkie talkies contained an extra large battery and also gave the ability of Mossad to eavesdrop on ALL Hezbollah communications, which it did for nine years”

“The baseball divisional playoffs started October 5, with the New York Mets doing what they do best. Namely, trying to kill off their entire fan base. Down 1-0 going into the top of the eighth against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mets staged a lengthy scratch rally to the tune of five runs en route to an eventual 6-2 win. What is a scratch rally, you ask? It is one that unfolds in this fashion.

I do. Goggin. My grandfather came from County Cork (Ireland)…came over on the boat, in steerage-just like the Titanic but unlike the Titanic made it to New York-processed at Ellis Island-then told by businesses that the Irish were not welcome and to go back home.
From what I have been told there is even a “Goggin” coat of arms listed in some historical book back in the ‘old country’.
Trump has already stated that win or lose this will personally be his last election However, IMO people have reawakened to wanting a less intrusive government, as well as the necessity of not taking constitutional rights for granted, like free speech, etc. Consequently, the independence of thought, promoted by the Trump era of politics, will not fade away, but will continue to be competitive in future elections by running and/or nominating candidates with similar populist ideologies.
Trump is not a movement. Is is the symptom of a movement, not the cause. He was smart enough to tap into it while the Jeb Bush, the “frontrunner” was still talking about “respecting conservatives”, “immigration is an act of love”, and “common core”.
I think Robinson will do much better than 38%, probably part of that undecided vote is just people embarrassed to say they will vote for him given the allegations.

Bitter and Vic might also enjoy this:
“The baseball divisional playoffs started October 5, with the New York Mets doing what they do best. Namely, trying to kill off their entire fan base. Down 1-0 going into the top of the eighth against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mets staged a lengthy scratch rally to the tune of five runs en route to an eventual 6-2 win. What is a scratch rally, you ask? It is one that unfolds in this fashion.
Never a dull moment with the kings of Queens.”

Serious Interviews ????
You mean like Howard Stern and the View????
MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell: Kamala needs to “double down” on doing serious interviews.

This is the closest Trump has been at 538 for awhile. It should be noted that 538 sans Silverhack is even MORE pro-Dem than it was when he was there.

I do.
