Btw. We are on hour 9 of our journey to get the little one to the soccer game at Yankee stadium. Up at 3 am to drive to the airport to get a non stop to jfk…and true to form for the airline industry lately the first flight id the day was delayed six hours. Raced to catch another flight through Charlotte got seats then they screwed up our tickets. Finally got to Charlotte and same thing happened again as we got on to jfk
Praying for not much traffic so we can get to the hotel, the yiung one can change to his haaland jersey and we take the 4 train to the stadium
The good news is that it allowed me to be frist (sic) lol

LBJ was corrupt in politics and his personal life.
His “Great Society” was instrumental in creating a culture of government dependency that has been highly detrimental to minorities.
His Vietnam “containment’ policy was an abject failure.

Oh, I agree. But the “containment” strategy guaranteed the war was only fought on South Vietnamese soil and failing to have a win strategy just allowed the media and the protesters to change public support for the war.

The US had 500k troops in Vietnam. They should have have had the South Vietnamese send 200k troops into North Vietnam with US air cover. It would have forced the NVA troops to pull out of South Vietnam to defend and leave the 500k Americans to wipe out the Vietcong.
THEN they could have made a deal with a Korea type solution and a DMZ.

Good answer by Vance. I don’t question his patriotism or loyalty, I just question his isolationism as extremely dangerous for America.
I watched Hillbilly Ellegy. Vance has a compelling life story and overcame a lot of challenges to get where he is.
I wish he would educate himself more on what US interests has around the world and the importance of defending them. Unfortunately he has a very simplistic and superficial understanding of the geopolitical realities and how they affect our security and economic interests.
For that reason I can’t vote to put him in reach of the Presidency.

Trump had a choice to make. He could have picked a VP that would expand his base and bring in more voters.
He instead chose one that merely reinforced his existing base.
It lost me. Maybe it gains some blue collar votes in the rust belt.
Maybe it will still work out. But in my view it put what was a winning campaign in an unnecessary risk situation.
