Abortion is not the most important issue to most voters. I expect it will be the most important issue to enough voters to elect Biden. Is that clear enough for you, Chi?

Bitter, the Dobbs decision was handed down well before this cycle began. Polling of the states currently has Trump winning the Electoral College, despite the electorate being well aware of the Dobbs decision.
Are the voters not telling the truth to the pollsters? Are the pollsters wrong?

Chi – For more than 20 years at HHR, I have avoided the trust the polls/all the polls are wrong debate. No need to start now. I think people are whistling past the graveyard if they think abortion will not be a big factor in the outcome. I think it is THE issue hurting Trump with women. His newest (but it will probably change again) position that it is just for the states is not going to take the heat off.

Well, Bitter, you’re taking a position (a reasonable one, even if I disagree) that is incompatible with current polling. Kinda hard to avoid the Poll Denier moniker.
Abortion is indeed important to many women, especially in urban areas. But polling suggests that other topics (economy, border, foreign policy, etc.) have overtaken abortion with enough voters to give Trump a lead in most swing states. That could certainly change by election day, of course, but it would require other hot-button topics to recede in importance in the interim.

Chi – I don’t know what ads, if any, Biden is running in your area. In Phildelphia, it is 90% abortion. Newest ad has a woman crying with her husband. Words on screen tell viewer that she was pregnant with a baby she wanted. Complications ensued that threatened her life and she could not get an abortion in her state. By the time she had it in another state, infections made her infertile and almost killed her. The ad ends with “Donald Trump did this.”
I have no idea if any of the story is true. Many viewers won’t care, either. It could by the Daisy to mushroom cloud ad of 2024. But LBJ only ran that ad once.

Bitter, Biden is running those ads because his record on every topic important to voters is awful. Otherwise he’d be running on that. Abortion is what remains, and he has nothing else try. Will it work? Time will tell, but right now, polling says it isn’t. Unless we toss the polls because they’re saying something we no likey….
