The State of Washington has just announced that the bar exam will no longer be required for an attorney to become licensed in the state of Washington. According to the state Supreme Court the exam hurts minorities.”

    What do you think Bitter?

    Like

  3. I don’t know what Bitter thinks, but I think its stupid. Lets let 12 year old drive on the highway without a license. Lets let surgeons do brain surgery without any training, so we make sure we get minorities hacking through people’s grey matter. Why not?

  4. After 3 years of law school, I think the bar exam is just a waste of time and serves as a money grab by states. I know good and bad lawyers who passed the bar exam so I don’t think it proves anything about competence to practice law.

If you suck as a lawyer, it eventually becomes obvious.

  5. As far as discriminating against minorities, I have no idea if that is true.

When I took the PA and NJ bar exams, one day was for answering 200 multiple choice questions about general law concepts. Each state had a day of answering essay questions about law specific to that state.

Delaware traditionally had the most difficult exam as it was focused on tax and corporate law.

Hmmm… I thought Bitter would think it was a bad idea.

    I guess I was wrong.

    It happens, rarely.

  7. okay, I presumed that the way this was presented that was if you didn’t have to pass the bar exam, then you didn’t need to have any training at all, you could just hang up your shingle, “Ima Dunce, Attorney at Law”

  8. I am sure the left is giddy with delight over this Michigan poll, but overall, Trump has led 18 polls of Michigan, going back to October last year, Biden has led 5, and there have been 5 ties. Sure, its a tossup state, but Trump has the edge.

  9. I have no idea whether the bar exam is a good or bad thing. The LSAT, on the other hand, is valuable as far as getting into law school. It kept me out of law school, after I completely bombed it. It made it crystal clear that I completely lacked the aptitude to get into law school, let alone to become a competent lawyer. I do think I became a pretty good teacher. Attorney? Forget it. I would have been waaaay out of my league. The bar exam, to me, probably doesn’t fully indicate whether or not you will be a good attorney. Just getting through the grind of law school ought to be enough.

Actually, I think in some states you don’t need to go to law school to take the bar exam. If you pass it, you can practice law. Pretty sure in California you don’t need to go to law school.

  13. Phil- Your LSAT score was a blessing. Your students were lucky to have such a fine teacher. You also were able to retire with a pension. I will die at my desk.

If I could do it again, I would have become a teacher or professor. Or a meteorologist.

If you can read and write, you can be a lawyer. However, I hate when people say “I would have been a good lawyer because I like to argue.” The most important skill is knowing when to STFU and let the other side sound stupid.

”Jan. 6 defendant Anthony Williams asked the court in February to grant him bond pending his appeal in light of the Supreme Court’s decision to take up Fischer v. United States, which challenges the scope of an obstruction statute used to charge him, along with hundreds of other Jan. 6 defendants. The DOJ warned in a court filingTuesday that in spite of the pending case — and an appeals court ruling finding it wrongly lengthened Jan. 6 sentences by applying an enhancement for interfering with the  “administration of justice” — it would increase its sentencing recommendation on the remaining counts to maintain the current sentence length.”

Very few of those pilots would have survived the war considering not only the losses over the years but the kamikazes at the end.

Plus there were like 60k military at Pearl Harbor and only 22 are still around. So if there were say 500 pilots attacking Pearl Harbor the odds of any survivors should be virtually nil.

  24. And not just battle losses, Jason; Japanese aviation doctrine, aside from being too rigid (keping air crews assigned to the same carrier vice moving them around as deck space and material condition allowed – see Shokaka and Zuikakau held bak from Midway for different reasons) in that training new pilots was not prioritized, so veteran air crews were kept at the front instead of being rotated home. Thus, by war’s end, most of them had been attrited away. Addo to that Bushido, so that when pilots and their crews went down into the drink, no effort at rescue was usually made. Deck crews on Yamato during Ten-Go were shocked to see Catalina’s dropping in close to the scene of the final battle to pick up the few pilots who were shot down, as Japan would never have done anything like that.

Logisitics were the main cause of Japan’s defeat, but so was their overall doctrine (and the interservice rivalry the forestalled any cooperation b/t the army and navy). Cue Marv to come in any moment now. 😉

I don’t really like the person they got to play the Anjin, as he doesn’t really match up to my image created in the book. I read it when I was young, and then read the rest of the series (3 books).

Despite that, its well done, and I am not vested in it after 5 episodes. It will be interesting to see if its just a one year show because you can only go so far with the book. There is a definitive beginning and ending.

“The House Oversight Committee has officially opened an investigation into the Transition Integrity Project at Georgetown University. In a letter to Rosa Brooks, who is the founder and facilitator of that group, Rep. Pete Sessions spoke about the “intensely partisan exercise” which he states is “intended to sew dissension and subversion regarding the American election system and the institution of the president of the United States.”

This is an important investigation as it relates to the subterfuge many have inferred was going on behind the J6 protests, upgraded deliberately to an “insurrection” by the over-zealous democrat DC DA. It appears the war games constructed by this group were intentionally aimed at disrupting, if not destroying, Trump’s attempt to become president – and if he managed to circumvent their traps then beleaguer it so it would not be a successful presidency.

Mary McCord, brought up frequently in the Russia collusion ploy, is also a person noted in this behind the-scenes scheming as well. Supposedly, she has said to be working on how to nullify the next American president in the event the people choose Trump.

This is not a conspiracy theory.

The Supreme Court approved three alternatives to the bar exam. One is a new apprenticeship program where law school graduates work under a professional lawyer for six months, then submit a work portfolio for evaluation. The other is for students to complete 12 credits of skills coursework, 500 hours of legal work before graduation, and then submit the same work portfolio to the State Bar for licensing.

The last is for law clerks who do not attend law school to complete standardized educational materials under a professional lawyer mentor, plus 500 hours of work as a legal intern.”

In the latest McLaughlin and Associates survey shared with Secrets on Wednesday, 56% said they believe that “Joe Biden wants to stop President Trump from winning the election by putting him in jail.” Some 30% disagreed.

Republicans, 86% to 8%, agreed, as did independent voters, 50% to 33%. But so did many Democrats — 32% agreed to 48% who didn’t.

What’s more, voters said they believe Biden is playing a key role in driving the investigations of his rival. Some 58% said Biden has a role. Of that, 40% called his role “major.”

Trump uses the same word to describe Pence that I did.

We need patriots. We need strong people in our country. Our country is going downhill very fast, very rapidly.

We need strong people in this country. We don’t need weak people.”

Pence should have endorsed Trump, because he said he was proud of the record of the Trump’s administration.

It would have been a sign of strength, that he could overcome his reservations about Trump the person and focused on the big picture, that another Biden presidency would be a disaster for conservatives.
