Once again Dolan seems like the best option for the senate.

RFK Jr. to name wealthy attorney Nicole Shanahan as running mate in prez!
Good news, two Dems! Hurts Biden. Glad Aaron Rodgers isn’t going to be RFK’s running mate.

I am kind of ho-hum about Kennedy and his campaign and how much it will do in the end. We don’t even know yet in how many states he will appear on the ballot.

I hope you are shocked.
Moreno is a 2nd amendment hating loser who will throw away a winnable seat.

Trump as usual is his worst enemy.
If elected President, he would need the Senate. Ohio is a red state and a good R candidate stands a reasonable chance of winning.
Moreno is not a good candidate. Trump wins by 11`in this poll and Moreno loses by 11. A 22 point swing.
Hopefully Dolan will prevail anyway.

But you loved a Democrat donor being the GOP nominee.

Dolan needs to be the nominee. His is not a Trump wing favorite, but that will actually help him in Ohio if you look at the electorate. This is a very winnable seat, Trump(ers) need to stop with this send a message crap and realize we need to WIN races and WIN the Senate.

Ok, as a Saturday night diversion from our regularly scheduled bickering I ask everyone the following question.
If you could pick one person (besides Reagan) to run for President this cycle, any politician since…hmmm…let’s say 1960 and beyond, who would it be. Doesn’t need to be a former President, or nominee for President. Can be any one person with the exclusion of Reagan.
Ok…let’s see what we can come up with.

Trump poisoned the well for both Moreno and Dolan, unfortunately.
Now many Moreno voters won’t vote for Dolan in the GE and vice-versa.
Stupid.

bitter. I didn’t ask who could beat biden, I asked for the one candidate you would want to run out of all the politicians of the last 65 years.
I’m assuming your choice is Nixon

I don’t.
At 68 McCain was way too old and confused to be President. Heck, he couldn’t even remember how many houses he had.

Nixon is an interesting choice. He was a flawed man, but I doubt he was more flawed than Trump or Biden.
I didn’t think of Nixon, I still prefer DeSantis but Nixon was a great statesman.

i think Nixon is an interesting choice. He did a lot of good, he was a great statesman and a survivor With that said he had a lot of programs and policies I would consider left leaning and was more of a northeast liberal Republican than a Reagan conservatice
I was never a bit McCain fan. He held grudges and definitely screwed over the party if he felt they didn’t do what he wanted. He was a conservative. Both can/are true.

I want the person who can beat Biden. I believe every GOP nominee from Lincoln on could do that. That said, and because Reagan is not permitted, I choose Nixon.

Everyone – You are not limited to a president, or presidential nominee. It can be a Gov, or a Congressman or Senator as well. Someone from the past 65 years you would want to be President.
Nixon would be an interesting choice right now. I think the next four years are going to see more turmoil than we believe. I think nationalism is going to rise in Europe over the next decade, the EU will be stretched as nation-states fight back against the forced immigration they have had to endure, as well as stretched resources. Then you will have the bloc of nations wanting to become international powerhouses in contrast to the USA, China and Europe (GCC, India, Saudi).

reminds me N Korea. There being a car driver is the highest paid job. You have to go to school for like 2 years to get a license, and you have to demonstrate that you can take the car completely apart and put it back together.

Pretty sure he has autism.
His advisors told him he could defeat the king…in reality the only reason he even was a governor at all was because of Trump.

Anonymous has no idea what (s)he is talking about. DeSantis is a strong conservative and effective leader. Those who think somehow that Trump is God Almighty feel that in order to give enough glory and honor and worship to Trump, all other Republicans have to be described as demons.

Responding to Jan from previous thread….
If several states were fully occupied by a foreign power and we were actively defending our nation against this foreign power, the US would likely suspend elections. Further more, IF elections did take place, Zelenskyy would easily win at this time since he is very popular. His popularity may be less in the Donbass area. But that area wouldn’t be able to vote since they are under Putin’s control right now.

UK delayed elections during World War 2 and they didn’t even have land that was occupied by a foreign nation.

Paul, it’s my understanding the GE in the Uk, during WW2, went on as scheduled, which is the one where Churchill was defeated. The Parliamentary elections are held every 5 years, but are allowed to have that time extended if need be. And, in some cases that extension did happen in the UK. Otherwise, all countries held their elections during that turbulent era.
The news in Ukraine, IMO, is not from neutral sources. Most are either aligned with Russia or Ukraine, which gives a bias to the reporting depended on the sourcing. I’ve tried listening to various podcasts etc., and Zelenskyy’s current popularity seems in doubt. People, especially in small villages, are seeing their male populations depleted, with conscription details continuing to sweep up any malingerers. The eagerness to fight, like there was during the war’s beginning, appears to have dimmed, along with Zelenskyy’s popularity among the war-fatigued people. I also think canceling the elections, not giving the remaining population a chance to vote, was wrong, and mainly a way for the current regime to hold onto it’s power.

Jan- Who would count the votes in the areas seized by Russia?
LikeLike
Jan: the areas that have shown weak support for Zelenskyy in the past would not be able to vote since they are occupied. Zelenskyy would win a landslide if elections did happen.
