Trump’s 68% in Michigan is more like the 80% I think he should be getting as a virtual incumbent. Conversely Nikki’s 26% is less impressive than the 40% she got in NH and SC. Possibly some R voters have become resigned to Trump’s nomination and decided to reluctantly support him.
Still, from a politicl standpoint I think she should stay in, accumulate some delegates and see what happens. Nothing “deadender” about that, she is still a better R candidate for the GE than Trump is.

GOP: 1,109,447
DEM: 762,254
Of course some 5 and a half million votes were counted in the 2020 general election in Michigan, but last night the Dems had a pathetic turnout to show support for their demented champion.

jason, my point is if the party loves their incumbent president, they show up to support him. Biden got 2,804,040 votes in Michigan’s 2020 general election. Last night he got only 618,006 in the 2024 primary. Only 22% of his 2020 vote total. Trump got 28% of his 2020 MI vote total, and that’s with Haley siphoning off nearly 300,000 votes last night.

You could actually make the opposite point here. 618,000 Dems showed up to vote for Biden in an uncontested primary.
In my view, the difference in turnout numbers is completely meaningless. The only thing meaningful would be if 15% of Dems actually refrained from supporting Biden in November.

Trump has been a Republican for the last 12 years. His first term policies reflected mostly common sense, conservative stances. His base, those who support him, are mainly working and middle classes, not the sublime elite and Wall Street types. His lead, so far, is more substantial than it was in his other presidential runs. He is also having to finance his lawfare persecution and his campaign out of funds from primarily small donors, with a far more organized team behind him, and is still making it work as the presumed Republican nominee.
Nikki Haley has been tagged a life-long conservative Republican by most….until now. Although, she continues to run on the R label she has aligned her dependency on funding and opposition votes, having a deceptive purpose to take Trump out, with rich or activist Dems and establishment anti-Trump leagues of republicans. IMO, such anti-Republican behavior, attached to present-day actions, is far more relevant than dredging up affiliations/donations made over a decade ago. She also remains in the race not to serve the election of a Republican POTUS, but to keep the money rolling in for her own enrichment, with the possibility of ambitiously using it for some purpose or campaign in the future.

Haley has many flaws as a politician. Yes, she does tend to pander to whomever she thinks she is supposed to pander to. We all know she is not going to win the nomination the traditional way, and thus, probably will not at all.
However on the issues that matter to actual conservatives, economic, foreign policy/national defense, and social, she is far better than Trump and has a far greater record of policy and political success than Trump, a proven political loser, has. This is besides the point that she clearly would be the stronger candidate against Biden both in terms of the Presidential election and for other Republicans running for other races.
