Did the defense in the Fani Willis disqualification hearing in Judge McAffee’s court present enough evidence last week to enable the judge to disqualify her from the election interference case?
Hello, Marv. I have not followed the shenanigans closely. A judge can force a recusal of counsel or even a mistrial got the appearance of impropriety. It would seem that this case would fit that. However, such a move would likely be appealed and delay the case – likely to Trump’s advantage. I think the DA should have stepped aside and said, “You don’t want me? Ok, mf-er. Let’s see how you like my replacement.” and then fast-tracked the trial.
How goes it for you today? We haven’t had the chance to chat lately. If you recall, we tried to meet up at the CPAC meeting in Orlando back to 2011, but our paths never crossed.
Marv – My wife and her sisters are going to Hawaii in a few weeks. I will find out which island and ask for your recommendations. I will be at home working so don’t send her anywhere she will find a replacement for me.
The legal analysts on TV who are sympathetic to Trump seem to think that a Willis recusal would make a trial prior to Election Day impossible. The entire prosecutorial process would start de novo. Furthermore, those who have already plea bargained, such as Sydney Powell, would have a good chance of having their case vacated without the possibility of further prosecution.
I watched the dust up on this forum lately, but if you left here, you should come back. We’re basically all on the same team. We all want Trump to win, we agree that illegal immigration is harmful, we agree that Putin is a bad man and we all agree that China is a geopolitical and military threat to both Taiwan and the United States.
It appears to me that the passionate discussions and disagreements here center around just exactly what we’re supposed to do about these issues.
With regard to the Russia v Ukraine War, it would be most helpful if the non-US NATO nations would step up and increase their commitment to their respective defense budgets. Also, they should provide at least half of the money and material to aid Ukraine while Ukraine can still fight. The US seems to be bearing the majority of the financial burden while depleting our stockpile of both tactical and long range weaponry.
At the current level of non-US NATO nation commitment, I expect that Russia will beat Ukraine, no matter how much aid the US provides. Also, unless Russia directly attacks US military personnel in the region, Ukraine should not expect direct US military involvement in the fight.
It is highly unlikely, in my opinion, that other NATO nations will enter into direct military conflict with Russia in order to drive Russian forces out of Ukraine.
My best guess is that no matter how much aid is provided to Ukraine, Russia will annex the Donbas Region, or Donbass as they call it. Apparently that was their primary objective in the first place. Not a good outcome at all, but probably the most likely, in my opinion.
Thanks for the jet, but I have a dentist appointment this week.
Also, irrespective of whom the Dems eventually nominate, I expect that President Trump will win. I also expect that he will win by a margin sufficient to overcome their anticipated ballot fraud.
A second Trump term will provide a lot of drama with great entertainment value. I expect that he will be largely successful implementing the core of his agenda items. Restoring the US military to absolute superiority over all potential enemies is job one, in my opinion. He should start that project by eliminating all forms of DEI, “social justice” programs and everything else that the left has foisted upon the military. The sole mission of our military is to kill the enemy and blow up their stuff. It seems that our current senior DOD leadership has forgotten that.
Putin appears to believe that NATO nations are weak and indecisive. He is right about that. To counter that, NATO nations need to stop pussy-footing around and prepare for a large scale air, land and sea war to defend Ukraine. If they do that, there may not be a large scale air, land and sea war over Ukraine. So far, NATO nations don’t appear to be doing much more than prolonging a war that Ukraine most certainly will lose, absent direct NATO involvement in combat action.
Another fact that is apparently being overlooked is that historically, Russia always wins a land war over territory which they believe is rightfully theirs. Tough pill to swallow, but, that’s the way it is for now.
The amount of money the U.S. spends on Ukraine aid translates to a little over 5 PERCENT of the total budget allocated for Defense. This money must go towards the Department of Defense.
Of this 5 PERCENT that is spent from our military budget on Ukraine, 90 PERCENT of THAT is spent WITHIN THE UNITED STATES. It goes to building or replacing weapons for the United States Armed Forces to protect the United States and that also of course creates many jobs for a lot of Americans.
The weapons we are sending to Ukraine would not be as effective in protecting America than the ones we are building or replacing them with for our own use.
Another fact is that European countries, combined, are sending TWICE the amount of aid to Ukraine than the United States is.
If Ukraine loses because the U.S. has abandoned it, that could mean China will take over Taiwan. It could also mean that Putin will move into a NATO country such as Poland or the Baltics. Some think Putin can be trusted and he won’t do that, but can we be sure?
There is an old saying called “pennies on the dollar.” We are virtually spending pennies on Ukraine now as compared to the amount of money we will have to spend if the U.S. is fighting a shooting war against Russia. No Americans are dying now fighting for the U.S. against Russia. Why would we want to take the chance of having to send them to fight Russia when what we are trying to do now in helping Ukraine is so much smarter and so much cheaper?
My best guess is that no matter how much aid is provided to Ukraine, Russia will annex the Donbas Region, or Donbass as they call it. Apparently that was their primary objective in the first place.”
I don’t agree. Russia did not have 100k dead and lost hundreds of billions of dollars in equipment and become an international pariah to get the Donbas region, which it already partially occupied anyway. They could have just invaded the Donbas and declared victory and defended a much smaller border against any Ukraine counter attacks.
Their objective was to decapitate the Ukrainian government and install a puppet regime like the one in Belarus. Having failed at that, a full scale invasion was Plan B.
But total annexation of Ukraine, militarily or politically, is the objective.
I agree. The aid to Ukraine is a drop in a bucket, we have gotten a huge bang for the buck by stopping the Russians in Ukraine….the Rs in Congress who oppose it are foolish and naive.
great to hear from you again and have you back. It stinks that we missed each other at CPAC that year. How have you been? Are you still in Texas. I saw something about Hawaii above.
I hope you’re back to regularly participate. Your analysis of the Ukraine is spot on. The donbass and it’s people have always considered themselves Russian and I believe, as you, that this was the goal, to annex it, not the rest of the Ukraine…BUT
something that people (like me) don’t take into account when talking about the invasion is that after the Ukraine split from the CCCP they consolidated all of the formed soviet military production into a company called ukronboronprom. This company manufactures a massive amount of arms (or did) including military and transport aircraft. Taking over all of the Ukraine means getting this capability back.
so I struggle at times wondering if Russian just wants donbass, or if it wants that as well.
I didn’t say that those nations are rightfully Russia’s. I said that they always win land wars that are fought over those nations, at least historically.
Putin perceived that NATO would not commit to a larger war to defend Ukraine. So far, he was right about that and I don’t see any indication that NATO nations are doing anything right now to effectively prove him wrong. There doesn’t appear to be any evidence that NATO nations will commit their citizens to a fight on Ukrainian soil and Putin is not dumb to attack a NATO country.
I will stick with my opinion that, under the current military and political situation, Russia will retain Donbas. Anything that happens after that depends upon who takes office in January 2025.
Marv- Unfortunately for Ukraine, if Trump wins, it will be the end of Ukraine as a nation. Trump is a moron on this issue. His belief that he can end the war in 24 hours completely discredited him. VictrC …thanks for your travel feedback. I have an update…
Qatar Airways just changed out our plane from BOS to DOH … A350-900 with no Qsuites. We are bummed out about it. Booked with AA miles so we looked into switching to Etihad 1st out of IAD with connection from Abu Dhabi to Doha…but no availability for the dates we need. Our DOH to CDG flight will be Qsuites at least as a daytime 7 hour flight that will be good to experience anyway.
My now 24 year old son was hospitalized when he was 9 for asthma. Inhalers helped him until he finished HS baseball.
Jeff. That really stinks that they are running you over on that equipment. You can ask them to change your routing because of the change, maybe do the jfk Doha or Chicago Doha route. If you do Chicago you will get the 777 which has larger seats.
the non qsuite a350 operates about the same “herringbone” seats as American Airlines and are still comfortable. Better than most other business class seats and about the same as etihad (btw – flying etihad isn’t the greatest experience. Not as much entertainment. No liquor. Etc)
thank you for letting me know about the asthma situation. He’s pretty bummed, but it makes sense. He’s had so many respitory illnesses the past two years. Hopefully he’ll outgrow it, but for the time being it will be inhalers.
