your third option comment started me thinking about how history is going to view Trump, and then reminded me of the adage “history is written by the victors,” which is both, so evident, and a sad commentary on whose winning right now.
Who would have thought the Founding Fathers, the Pilgrims, the Settlers, renaissance men, even Lincoln, would now be taught to our children to be bad men. That all western societies that brought about great innovation, amazing advances, etc would be evil, yet mutilating our kids, acting with morality, and believing the best person is the right person to accomplish something would be wrong.

I’m not sure the GOP does as a whole benefits. If those Kennedy voters are also voting for dem senators and congressmen then it’s probably not worth it.
This is the entire argument used against Pat Buchanan. ALL his voters were voting GOP straight ticket minus the deepstate candidates at the top of the ticket.
It was a major help to the GOP to have him running as third party.

I would also point out regarding these NC and MI polls from Fox News, that while the margins are tighter than other polls of the two states, Fox News is notorious for finding good news for Dems.
In 2020, Fox News’ final poll of NC had it Trump 46 / Biden 50, and of Trump course won the state.
Then in MI in 2020, Fox News had it Trump 40 / Biden 52, more than just a little bit off the final result.
I am not saying the current poll is right or wrong per se, just providing the historical context against their 2020 polling.

Phil, the MD polls with the misfits included says to me that even in a deep blue state, voters are longing for other options:
Biden 47, Trump 31, Kennedy 6, West 1, Stein 1 (Emerson poll)
Biden 45%, Trump 28, Kennedy 18 (Gonzales poll)
The Biden campaign should have many worries right now, and polling under 50% in Maryland with third party/indy names on the ballot is one of them.
I would like to see a current poll of Virginia with all these other names. So far we have heard nothing from Christopher Newport University, while VCU had Biden up three in late Dec, early January, and Roanoke had Biden up 4 in November.

Phil brought up Biden’s underperforming in Maryland. Here is a peek at all the polling we have thus far in deep blue states, just to see if Maryland is unique.
New York:
All we have is four polls from Siena College, not exactly a right-wing conservative polling firm:
September: Biden +21
October: Biden +9
November: Biden +10
January: Biden +9
In 2020 Biden carried NY by 23 points. Four years later its down to 9 points.
California:
The average gap of the last six polls is 19.8, of course in favor of Biden. In 2020, Biden carried California by 29 points.
Illinois:
Emerson polled the state back in mid-October and found a gap of only 9 points. In 2020, the win for Biden was a 17 point gap.
Massachusetts:
Emerson also polled this state last fall finding only a 19 point gap, favoring Biden, while the gap in 2020 was 34.
Washington:
There were two polls last fall, and the average is a gap of 12 points. In 2020 the gap was 19 points.
Maryland is NOT alone. I would love to see some fresh polling in NJ, CT, DE, and OR.

Jan, it won’t stop until Western Civilization is destroyed and the world is filled with only nations where the people have no freedoms and are constantly oppressed.
All but the rich and powerful will live hand-to-mouth however they can, with no more middle class and no path to an education and improvement. Sort of like the dark ages where the rulers with the most powerful armies win.
Things will be run like the old USSR model, where everyone is a technical criminal because the laws either cannot be followed, or are too confusing and contradictory to be correctly followed. And then the rulers can prosecute who they want, and look the other way and not prosecute their supporters. This is already happening on the documents case and so many other examples.
For instance, one of the largest Christian universities in the nation has been fined tens of millions on a spurious charge, but really are being fined simply because they are large and they go against the secular university liberal indoctrination. They oppose the left, and so they must be crushed.

Pres. Trump’s legal team filed a Reply just moments ago to the Smith SCO’s opposition to his motion for stay.
RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING they cite Jack Goldsmith’s article yesterday in Lawfare calling out SCO Smith’s outrageous requests at every juncture to get the case to trial regardless of all the due process considerations.
There are reasons I posted a link to Goldsmith’s article.
First, he’s no friend of Trump but has deep GOP roots.
Second, his criticism of Smith was categorical and direct.
Third, he’s taken SERIOUSLY in the DC legal establishment, right up to Justices and their Clerks.
The Trump team just proved my point — when Jack Goldsmith supports your position, you make use of that in a forum like the Supreme Court.
He’s not a bomb thrower, and he’s not overtly partisan in his commentary.
He knows Jack Smith’s willingness to ignore norms and stretch statutes in pursuit of his own agenda as well as anyone. And he called Smith out on it even though his sentiments with regard to whether Trump should be re-elected probably match Smith’s.
But Goldsmith has integrity, and his words carry weight.

Hi Bitterlaw,
I remember the JFK assassination well. Dad was an Air Force pilot at the time and his squadron was placed on strip alert. (Meaning the aircraft were positioned on a ramp area near the departure end of the runway fully fueled and awaiting further orders). The thinking at the time was that there would be an attempt by a hostile nation to decapitate the senior military command structure. Fortunately, none of that happened and his squadron stood down and resumed their normal operations.
