The RNC announced Friday it would pause its participation in future 2024 GOP primary debates, at least for now. Politico reported the RNC’s decision meant any future debates will be hosted by networks independently of the committee. Media outlets therefore will determine benchmarks for participation in debates, not the RNC.
“We have held four successful debates across the country with the most conservative partners in the history of a Republican primary. We have no RNC debates scheduled in January and any debates currently scheduled are not affiliated with the RNC,” the RNC’s Committee on Presidential Debates said in a statement. “It is now time for Republican primary voters to decide who will be our next President and candidates are free to use any forum or format to communicate to voters as they see fit.”
The RNC is catering to the former President. Nevertheless two other debates in IA and NH are happening…😂😂😂.
Based on criteria it’s ONLY RDS vs Haley for both debates.
The question is when and if it come down to a one on one with DJT at all. Haley $ backers may ask her to drop out as RDS a would have a much better chance.
The polling has set a very high bar of expectation for DJT of a 40-50 point margin nationally. Which he promotes all the time. If Trump averages under 40% in IA,NH,NV,SC, (terrible for a former President that is viewed as the leader) and 60% want another candidate I think he would be in trouble even without an RDS or Haley win. We will see.

The debates so far have not worked out in changing the numbers of its participants. I’ve only watched the news nation one and found the dramatic verbal confrontations lending no substance, only jabs and outbursts. People I know have either not watched the debates at all, or tired of them, turning them off before they were over. I probably wouldn’t tune in to them even if Trump was there. I just have never found them that interesting nor informative, except to see the body language or how each candidate publicly comported themselves.

No. I am the epitome of those who can’t do, teach. I coach with a guy in his 70s who loves the game and drawing up plays. The girls ignore most of them. I focus more on the big picture stuff – the other team has a good player with asthma. Fast tempo until she needs her inhaler. On rebounding, God gave you elbows so use them. I also set up the rotations since there is equal playing time. It is ok to have one bad player on the court at one time. 2? Lose.

The debates matter A TON. Jan you are about 25%-30% of the DJT diehards. The rest of us make up the majority of the primary electorate. People are still deciding.
Trump has no where near 61% RCP average national support. I am sure you haven’t paid much attention to the second choice in polls that include that. It shows Trumps top line numbers are very soft.
If he averages close to 50% he will be extremely fortunate. If he is under 40% average in the first four states with only two other candidates left it is not a good look for him. The January 6th ongoing trial is going to put a ton of doubt in people’s mind as voting occurs as well.
The field is narrowing fast.
One on one he will lose to RDS and he would beat Haley.

Bitter I see Trump more as a phenomenon (like my son but for different reasons), an intemperate type of man with lots of human flaws who is custom-made for the trials, tribulations and “snarkiness” of our time. Everyone else seems to be made of plaster of Paris, whereas DJT is like a rusty anchor embedded in goals activated by a principled combativeness directly addressing the working classes.

So Casey has called for a broad coalition of Moms & Grandmas from around the country to participate in the Iowa caucus.
Why it matters -> Though these folks cannot obviously vote, they can advocate and push for a candidate legally and have those conversations with the voters on Iowa caucus day. There’s nothing that prohibits them from showing up from out of state to do this. It’s no secret DeSantis is miles ahead on grassroots efforts as well as his ground game. Think 99 county tour.
He already has a number of folks lined up to be at each polling station on Iowa caucus day earning votes and persuading folks to vote for him over the other options. Trumps ground game is not as good and uneven as he hasn’t made the effort to invest in Iowa. It’s not strong anywhere else either so even when he learns of this, there’s not a lot he can do. He didn’t make the necessary efforts to be prepared for this. Bussing folks to Iowa costs money too.
You may have some polling stations here that have barely any Trump spokespeople. Insert DeSantis, who is smart enough to have them at all locations and then add in the folks from out of state, Moms and Grandmas…
Which vote does that significantly boost? Women! Not exactly a group that is in love with the orange king.
Picture a long line of voters. Say Trump has 20 spokespeople and DeSantis has 20 spokespeople. Then add in the folks from out of state, say that adds on 10. Now DeSantis has 30 and that is 10 more to effectively and efficiently move through those lines and talk to people. It’s more ammunition and firepower. With as little as Trump has tried or invested in Iowa, I think this example is a generous one.
Folks, I hope you’re ready.
This is what DeSantis has to do. Who he has to be. This is absolutely necessary and checkers to the chess he will be playing for the GE.

I don’t ever recall a potential First Lady calling for a national “participation” in an election. Sure, people travel from different states to protest or help their party out, however Casey DeSantis’s plea was unusual and spoken in such confusing terms she had to quickly walk back. Yep, it is true that conservatives are hopelessly divided. It is unfortunate and only the Dems benefit from this division. We see it in Congress, we see it in the states, we see it here at HHR.
