Sad news. I just received a FB message that Wes passed away a few weeks ago. RIP, Wes.

HHR has always been a tough place. Still, I always tried to remember that despite the anonymity, there were real people posting here. Despite our fights, Wes was a good guy.

  1. Wes could be sharp-tongued in his disagreements with people, but was a massive source of wonderful political information. He was also just a unique and provocative poster here, and will be missed. I’m stunned he is gone.

  2. Wes could be a real …. Anyway. He was deeply committed to his family. I think he has a young son and daughter. It was an honor to exchange GFYs with him.

  4. I’m shocked. I just had assumed that he was early in his treatment, and so I never expected this. My wife has been battling severe health problems for the past five years and been under hospice care here at home for the last eight plus months. Still, the process has been slow and I never expected this kind of outcome with Wes, let alone this timeline. So sad. I will miss him. Always appreciated his very good and accurate information out of NC. My thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. RIP, my friend.

  9. When Wes last joined the discussion, HHR was still operating so that was several months ago. He gave the impression that things were tough, but hopeful. When he didn’t make the switch to this forum, I started to worry and that’s why I asked Bitter if he had heard from him.

Bitter, if you feel comfortable, can you provide a link to Wes’ FB page or possibly to an obituary. I would like to sign a virtual condolence book if there is one.

  13. Wes told me he was not interested in posting here. He was very anti-Trump and told me that if Trump was the nominee, he would vote for Biden. We had a very heated exchange over that. Our last exchange was August 1st. He said he needed more treatment before surgery could be performed. I wished him well. He did not respond to messages after that.

  16. Very sad to hear of Wes passing. He was one of the most knowledgeable posters on the board. Always enjoyed reading his posts, even when we disagreed. RIP Wes.

In its heyday, HHR was a vibrant place with dozens of posters. Who can forget the board on Election Night 2016. So much has changed in the American politics — and not for the better. It’s as if we’re living in the rubble of a much better past. Unfortunately, most of us were expecting this would eventually happen.

  26. Thank you, Robbie. Wes posted about a son and daughter. I do not know if they were the children from other relationships. If so, maybe his wife/girlfriend omitted them. Pretty harsh if that is what happened.

  27. Not everything he posted about himself over the years was true. That should not be a surprise. He is hardly the only person to have engaged in that online.

The other link that must have gone into moderation was from the funeral home. It has the same obituary information but contains a 9 minute video montage of photos. Since he was a private person, it might be best to not post everything publicly.

His loss is a very sad one for his mother, sister, and others.

  29. Sorry to hear about Wes. He must have had an extremely aggressive type of colon cancer to die that quickly at 45. It sounds like they were trying to shrink the tumor before doing surgery. Complications from treatment can mean a lot of things, one of them is that your immune system is severely weakened and you end up dying of an infection but there are other complications.

We had our fights and agreements. But in a lot of his final posts he seemed very vituperative towards me, more than normal and something just told me that for once I should not engage in any back and forth, so I pretty much ignored the attacks and instead wished him well in his treatment. I got the feeling his anger was generalized, and anyway I like to be the center of attacks, not a co-target.

Wes was a very well read man, and anybody who is well read, likes a fine wine and a rare steak and a Puro is ok in my book.

Wes was very anti-religion so i will just say that I am glad he enjoyed a full life, albeit short.

    He will be missed.

  33. Wes was devastated by the loss of his dad a few weeks earlier. Whenever I see somebody “died suddenly” I suspect that they may have ended their life. However, cancer is serious and can lead to infections or heart issues. Regardless, much too young. I know he felt tortured about feeling he might have to vote for Biden because he felt Trump was a dictator. We argued harshly over it but, fortunately, just realized that real life is more important than politics. I just thought he had more time.

  34. I read his obituary. The funeral home was on Ramsey Street. It is ironic since Ramsey is a town in his most-hated state, New Jersey. I guess now he knows if there is an afterlife or just nothing.

  35. I never get where the “Trump is a dictator” comes from. Trump certainly is the victim by a lot of people who act like dictators. The same people who call Trump a dictator probably approve of Biden trying to circumvent congress on student debt, gun control, climate change, etc.

A federal court judge in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit challenging Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential candidacy under the 14th Amendment.

The lawsuit, filed a week ago, questioned Trump’s ability to appear on the Florida presidential primary ballot next year, owing to his alleged role in the Jan. 6 violence at the U.S. Capitol.

In her swift dismissal of the case, Judge Robin Rosenberg, who was appointed to the bench by President Barack Obama, did not determine the 14th Amendment’s applicability in Trump’s case. Instead, Rosenberg ruled that the plaintiffs, Boynton Beach attorney Lawrence Caplan and two others, lacked “standing” to bring the challenge.
