Anthony said “I’ve got to be clear that my message, like with any of my songs, it references the inefficiencies of the government Because of the politicians within it that are engulfed in bribes and extortion.”

He noted that while children in Richmond are missing meals over the summer because their parents can’t afford to buy them things, upwards of 30 to 40 percent of food bought by welfare is spent on “junk food” and soda.

“You know, we can — we can fuel a proxy war and a foreign land but we can’t take care of our own. That’s all the song is trying to say. It’s just saying that the government takes people who are needy dependent and makes them needy independent.

Ukraine is now within range, but there still moving further forward: Taking Tokmak physically cuts off a major land route to the Crimea:

    “EUROPE’S EDGE
Ukraine — Victory Is Closer Than You Think
    By Jan Kallberg
    August 23, 2023

Ukraine’s counteroffensive is making substantial progress. Russia’s generals will know this, even if the West doesn’t.

    ***

Intelligence analysts may look at the map of Southern Ukraine and see distances; military planners will apply the military math and see something very different. They know that to crush the Russian army and strangle the troops in frontline fortifications, they don’t need to advance 50 miles. 10 miles will do it.

Why? Because although it would be great if Ukrainian troops broke through to the shores of the Sea of Azov, they do not have to. Instead, they can achieve a significant operational outcome by bringing Russia’s ground line of communication (GLOC) under their guns.

On or around August 22, Ukraine’s troops liberated the village of Robotyne, some 90km (around 55 miles) from the Sea of Azov, a major accomplishment given the enormous efforts of the Russian invaders to fortify and hold it.

From here, the Ukrainians need to advance by a further 10–15 km (7–10 miles), in order to range their guns on Russia’s east-west transport routes that are critical to the ability of its army and armed forces to fight. If Ukraine can interdict these road and rail links, it’s very hard to see how the Russian army can continue to fight.”

That will not happen. It is a very complex and involved case. All the defense attorneys need to have time to review the pleadings, and prepare their own motions and defenses.

There are going to be a lot of motions filed that will need to be decided, such as requests to move the case to federal court — which if denied will likely be appealed. Expect each of the named defendants to be filing their own motions, so it’s going to be busy.

Would not be surprised if the state court looks at this can of worms of a case and grants the motions to toss it over to federal court.

    Christie 4 (-)
    Scott 4 (-)
    Pence 2 (-1)”

Some of my thoughts having not watched the debate.

There seems to be a strong consensus that the debate helped the Golden Calf and wrecked Ramaswamy, even though he came in second in some focus groups and second in the Ipsos poll. That is because he has a narrow appeal to the most isolationist voters. To most viewers Ramaswamy came across as a cocky know nothing completely beyond his pay grade on stage, constantly repeating memorized quotes instead of responding to. what was actually being discussed. The debate put him in his place, so to speak. He needs to run for something other than President, and maybe come back in a dozen years or so with some tangible experience/record he can run on.

From what I read You Need to Feel My Pain Haley tore Ramaswamy a new a-hole on foreign policy, good for her. I probably identify philosophically and ideologically with her more than any other candidate. I would support her if I didn’t consider her unqualified for any public office, the disgusting pandering to BLM was the straw that broke the camel’s back. If she is the nominee I will vote for Daffy Duck or leave the top of the ballot blank like I did in 2016.

I am glad fat f–k slimeball Christie is down to 4%, hopefully he will soon be at 1%. Same with Pence, who fails to understand that the only reason he is actually on the stage is because of Trump. No, it is not disloyal for him to run against Trump, but he has said a lot of things that ARE disloyal to Trump. He should follow the “speak up or forever be silent” meme. If he was uncomfortable with Trump he could have resigned or spoken up. Instead now he goes around disclosing private conversations with the President so he can get on TV. I would vote for him as the nominee, reluctantly, because contrary to I need to feel your pain Haley, he is qualified to be President.

As for Scott, he is a good guy and would make a great VP. If the Golden Calf wins the nomination, I hope he considers him.

“Former U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the assassination of Wagner boss Prigozhin:

“It can’t have been more than a few seconds between the explosion aboard the otherwise reliable Embraer Legacy 600 executive jet, and the moment the Russian thug blacked out in his vertiginous acceleration to earth; and yet in that instant I am certain that he knew with perfect clarity what had happened,” Johnson wrote.

“He knew whose hidden hand was sending him 28,000 ft down, to be immolated with the rest of his Wagner group companions in a fireball in the countryside of the Tver region north of Moscow – and then on downwards, of course, for the shade of Prigozhin: down, down to Hades and the Tartarean pit below.”

“As the detonation sucked the air out of the aircraft’s cabin, I would wager that the last thought in the doomed dome of Prigozhin’s skull was ‘Putin!’, preceded by one of the many profanities in which the former jailbird and hotdog salesman was so fluent,” Johnson wrote.

“As we watch the chilling footage of that plane spiraling to earth, we are witnessing something historic. This is the violent liquidation – on TV – of his enemies by an existing head of state. I cannot think of another example of such ostentatious and uninhibited savagery by a world leader – not in our lifetimes,” Johnson wrote.

“The mask is now fully off. Putin stands exposed as a gangster, and his absurd televised ‘tribute’ to the dead Wagnerites is straight from the pages of ‘The Godfather,’” Johnson concluded.”

Also, winning back all of Ukraine would involve Crimea, since it is part of Ukraine.

I support going back to the pre-war borders to end the war, but let’s not pretend Crimea is not part of Ukraine.

The annexation of Crimea is not recognized by the international community, the US, the EU, or even China.

Once you go the federalized route, there is no comeback and you allow Congress to keep changing the rules.

I doubt paper ballots will be used but their could be a paper “trail” say a punch tape that records every vote.

In any case, I am not sold on the machine fraud theory. I think where fraud is happening is VBM (failure to check signatures and voter eligibility and ballot harvesting/unsupervised drop boxes). In essence, people not eligible to vote are voting and ineligible ballots are being counted. GOP poll watchers are being excluded from the counting. Ballot harvesting is occurring in nursing homes and housing projects and even homeless shelters.

Anyone who thinks there were not tens of thousands of such votes in PA, NV, WI, GA and AZ are delusional. If you think it is ok just because it was against Trump, you are an idiot. It most likely caused Laxalt to lose in 2022 and maybe 3 or 4 congressional seats, and will cost the GOP senate seats and congressional seats in the future.

In fairness to Vivek what he said was Pence should have called for a Senate vote on these reforms, which of course would have made them legal after Trump signed the bill.

  189. The big fallacy in the Dem and TDS moron “no court confirmed fraud” and “no recount overturned any results” is that you can recount fraudulent votes 1000 times and they will still be fraudulent and you will get the same result.

The courts in 2020 did not really get into any merits of VBM fraud. Basically most of the challenges were thrown out for reason such as standing and/or just a general reticence to get involved in state election laws/processes. The courts were not willing to rule, for example, that all VBM ballots should be rechecked by a bipartisan commission for signature matching/address verification. Had they done that, I am pretty sure Trump would have won PA, NV, WI, GA and AZ and a comfortable EV victory.

The fact courts refused to consider the cases and dismissed them before actually ruling on the merits does not mean there was no fraud, which is what the Dems, the MSM, and the TDS morons allege.

Every time I see/hear/read about the MSM alleging the 2020 election fraud claims are “baseless” and “debunked” it turns my stomach. They are not baseless. They just were never properly investigated, which is different.

  190. The Dems have a good ballot harvesting/vote tracking system in PA. A small business owner told me that his sister is a Democrat who requested an absentee ballot. She mailed it in but forgot to sign it so it did not get recorded. She was notified about it, but in the interim twice someone from the party came to her house to pick up her ballot. They knew she was a Dem who requested a ballot, but since it had not been recorded the party figured she just had not mailed it in, so they came to her house to pick it up.

Technically not ballot harvesting, but it shows the depth of the organization. I would be surprised if the GOP has the same system.

This in a GOP county. Anyone doubt that in Philadelphia the unsigned ballot would not have been challenged?

This is true. So were the legislators in all the states that got gamed by Covid and allowed election laws to be subverted because of it. In PA the R house and senate stupidly allowed VBM with no chain of custody. Had they implemented better controls Trump would not have lost PA by 65k votes.

And yes, Trump accepted a lot of bad advice and wasted a lot of political capital by going after voting machine fraud and meaningless recounts. He should have concentrated all efforts on VBM signature and address verification, illegal votes, non-citizen votes, duplicate votes, dead people votes, etc.

Had he foreseen the VBM debacle he could have had excellent pre-prepared challenges ready to go after the election. Instead, he had a cadre of lawyers and advisors making stuff up on the come.

Still, despite all that, it is no excuse for stealing an election. I don’t see how with a clean vote Trump would have lost GA, WI and AZ for starters. That would have made it 269-269 and the house would have elected him. But a clean election would probably have given him NV and PA too.

The problem for Trump will be that he will be running as a convicted felon and that will kill him on election day. It will prevent him from winning the election. That’s what this farce is designed to do – block his ability to win the GE. Nothing more, nothing less. The appeals won’t do Trump any good until AFTER election day. The only woman running for the Republican nomination, Haley took down Vivek Ramaswamy on foreign policy and dismissed former Vice President Mike Pence’s call for an abortion ban at the federal level. It means that Trump will have already racked up the delegates he needs to get the nomination BEFORE the DC trial reaches a verdict. Most predict the trial will last six weeks or so. In other words, the Republican Party will already be committed to nominating Donald Trump when the guilty verdict comes down. Perhaps it won’t be a guilty verdict you say? Uh, the venue is DC. He doesn’t stand a chance. Trump is a dead duck legally. The Manhattan trial follows next and that one is the one trial that’s not a real threat. Even lefties concede it’s absurd. Still, Trump will be tied up for weeks on that one and won’t be campaigning.

After that you have the El Lago documents trial and the Georgia state trial during the summer. By the time he officially accepts the nomination in August he will be a convicted felon once twice and perhaps a state conviction as well (good luck in Fulton County). Actually, he’ll be a broke campaign convicted felon as well. Ty Cobb, Trump’s former legal counsel says Trump’s legal fees will exceed 100 million.

This thing has been engineered beautifully by the left. Imagine, one party being able to manipulate the opposing party into nominating a broke convicted General Election candidate. Of course, it only works if the Republicans are stupid enough not to see what is happening and continue on the path to nominating a sure GE loser. Don’t worry. They are more than stupid. Not in the least capable of any strategic common sense.

Republicans have about four months to get it together and drop this guy if they have any chance whatsoever in 2024. Unfortunately, I have very little faith in the party of stupid doing the strategic and logical thing.

the Meadows’ removal motion in federal court in Atlanta yesterday:

What everyone needs to keep in mind here is the standard that is applicable — the purpose of the hearing yesterday was not to prove or disprove the the factual issues that were the main point of contention.

Meadows only has to prove that he has a colorable defense he can raise at trial that his actions were part of his federal job duties. The only standard he must get past is that the claim is not frivolous.

The issue raised by him will later be a basis for both a claim of immunity in a motion to dismiss, or a factual affirmative defense raised at trial if it gets that far.

The only question before the Court is whether — based on the existence of such a colorable defense — the trial must take place in federal court rather than state court.

Why are the Dems and the lefty Legal Beagles so distraught over the possibility this case will end up in federal court? It will be the same indictment, still prosecuted by the Fulton Count yDA.

The reason the lefty Legal Beagles are desperate for this to not go to federal court is because they know that even if the district court judge does not grant a motion to dismiss based on immunity, that would be immediately appealable to the 11th Circuit, and Willis will likely lose there — before any trial of Trump in DC.

Also — as has been briefly mentioned in various places, after being raised by
    @McAdooGordon
    — when Meadows takes the immunity issue to the 11th Circuit, Trump will do so as well.

What the 11th Circuit does re a claim of Presidential Immunity made by Trump — if they uphold it and dismiss the Georgia case — will create GREAT DIFFICULTY for Jack Smith in DC. The 11th Cir. ruling will not be binding on the Judge in DC, but Trump is going to make a Presidential Immunity claim in the DC case and when it is denied he’s going to take that to the DC CIr.

If the 11th Cir. has already ruled in his favor — and this will come long before next March — Trump will then seek to bypass the DC Cir. after filing there by seeking “Cert before Judgment.” Then both the 11th Cir and DC cases would be before SCOTUS at the same time.

Lawfare can be waged in both directions.

  306. The reason Trump is doing so well against Biden?

“The primary reason for the statistical tie in the race is that Trump is holding onto more of his 2020 vote than Biden. In the NYT poll, 91% of Trump’s 2020 voters are supporting him again while only 87% percent of Biden’s voters plan to vote for him in 2024. Among Biden’s 2020 voters, 2% plan to vote for Trump, 4% claim they won’t if the race is between Biden and Trump, and 5% intend to vote for a candidate other than Biden or Trump. Trump loses 2% to Biden, 3% to another candidate, and 2% say they won’t vote.”

With these numbers it is hard to see how he loses the nomination. That is why it is so dangerous to dismiss his voters.

The Hudson Institute argues that over the long term Ukrainian innovation in weaponry may make it a more powerful nation than Russia.

From his jail cell in The Hague, war criminal Putin may realize in horror what he has unleashed:

“In the past 18 months, rapid breakthroughs in “combat tested” defense innovation are likely to make Ukraine’s domestically manufactured weapons highly sought after around the world. This is especially true when it comes to technological breakthroughs in unmanned seaborne drones, which have been successful targeting the Kerch bridge and Russian warships in the Black Sea. Ukraine’s domestically produced anti-ship missile, responsible for the sinking of the Moskva last year, will be appealing for countries wanting to increase their coastal defense at a relatively low cost. This is particularly true with some Gulf states.

Also, many countries that already purchase Russian manufactured military hardware are quickly learning how ineffective it is on the 21st century battlefield. These countries are likely to be reassessing their reliance on Russian hardware and will develop a plan to diversify away from it. In this context, there is no doubt that Ukrainian defense goods will become an increasingly attractive alternative.”

Trump had the good sense to fire Flynn after only 24 days on the job. It’s ludicrous to think that Trump would bring him back in any capacity, let alone VP:

“White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the Defense Department probe of Flynn was “appropriate if they think there is wrongdoing.”

But Spicer said the Trump administration did not review Flynn’s security clearance before he was named national security adviser, relying instead on a 2016 renewal of the clearance during the administration of Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, which occurred after Flynn’s 2015 trip to Russia.

Among other payments, Flynn was paid $45,000 in 2015 to attend the 10th anniversary of the Kremlin-controlled Russia Today television network, sitting next to Russian President Vladimir Putin at a gala dinner.

Spicer said Trump “made the right decision at the right time and he continues to stand by it,” regarding his firing of Flynn in February after just 24 days on the job. Trump ousted Flynn after it was learned he had lied to Vice President Mike Pence and others about his contacts with the Russian ambassador to Washington in the weeks before Trump assumed power.”

“Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio is telling Republican donors that Nikki Haley “has surged” in Iowa since last week’s GOP presidential debate — and that she and Vivek Ramaswamy are essentially tied with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in New Hampshire, according to a polling memo obtained by Axios.”

    * * *

Driving the news: Fabrizio’s memo, sent to fundraisers and allies of former President Trump, said that all three remain far behind him in the first two states that will vote in the GOP primary season.

Why it matters: Haley and Ramaswamy were widely seen as doing well in the debate, but the memo also reflects Team Trump’s emphasis on DeSantis’ early struggles — and how it’s trying to shift the campaign’s narrative from “Trump vs. DeSantis” to “Trump vs. everyone else.”

By the numbers: In Iowa, Fabrizio found Trump at 44%, DeSantis at 18%, Haley at 10%, along with Ramaswamy and Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) tied at 7%.

In New Hampshire, Fabrizio found Trump at 48%, DeSantis at 11%, Haley and Ramaswamy at 9%, and Scott tied with former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 5%.”
