Just listened to the Col Douglas Macgregor interview dealing with the Ukraine/Russian War, and the U.S.’s part in it. His analysis, facts, and general understanding of warfare is like a master class. It’s well worth the listen, especially for those who unequivocally support this war indefinitely. If nothing else people can hear what he says, and then reasonably refute his stats or claims of truth to neocon power, being at least open-minded enough to hear what a knowledgeable man of the military has to offer.
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2023/08/22/tucker-carlson-interviews-col-douglas-macgregor-on-ukraine-russia-war/
FWIW, Carlson has very little input in this interview. It’s all Macgregor for almost an hour of air time.

Bitter he really doesn’t say what he wants Ukraine to give up, only cites the broader scope of the war, giving numbers of the dead in Ukraine, the number of children missing since the war started, the old equip we are sending over to Ukraine, the air surveillance that can locate and destroy this equip and much more. But, all you want to do is sit back and snipe at anything or anyone who doesn’t go along with 100% of your “all in” zeal no matter how many people are killed.
Tina, I didn’t see your posting of this interview on the last thread. I agree this man should occupy a place in a new administration.

Bitter, I placed this comment about MacGregor near the end of the the last thread:
“MacGregor is a total joke. He is a Putin toadie who just spouts stupidity. Here some of his most most ridiculous predictions:
“2-27-22 Macgregor said Ukrainians have 24 hours to surrender because the “game is over”
3-5-22 he predicted the war would be over within 10 days
9-12-22 he said Ukrainians are “desperate” and “war may be over soon”
Starting to think he might not know what he’s talking about… ”
Putin’s trolls have been out in force recently, and that is probably a good sign. Netherlands and Denmark are giving Ukraine F-16 fighter jets; pilots are being trained. The rumblings are some experienced pilots have volunteered from foreign countries”

The irony is despite what Putin propagandists say, Russian military bloggers are admitting Ukraine is gaining ground through Russian defenses.
From Institute for Study of War:
“A Kremlin-affiliated milblogger claimed that Ukrainian forces captured some positions in a part of the Russian forward defensive lines after intensifying attacks on the Robotyne-Verbove (21km southeast of Orikhiv) line. Some Russian sources reported that Russian forces retreated from some positions near Verbove as part of their elastic defense, likely in response to a Ukrainian advance south of Mala Tokmachka. ISW previously assessed that Ukrainian attacks on Robotyne are tactically significant because a Ukrainian advance in the area may allow Ukrainian forces to begin operating past the densest Russian minefields. Ukrainian advances across fields in this area likely confirm this assessment. Persistent Ukrainian advances in the Robotyne area also likely aim to degrade Russian forces that have committed significant effort, resources, and personnel to hold positions around Robotyne”
Meanwhile Moscow is continually being hit by Ukrainian drones, and the Kersh Bridge was closed again, likely because of Ukrainian drone attacks.
By contrast, there has been not been any major advances by the Russians anywhere in Ukraine recently.

Was the death of any soldier “worth” Independence from England, saving the Union, defeating Hitler……? Not to their family and those to them. Virginia’s Lt. Gov. says on Fox & friends “It wouldn’t surprise me” if Youngkin entered GOP presidential race
– It’s important to remember governors and Lt. governors don’t run as a ticket in Virginia so I doubt Youngkin and Sears are necessarily sharing strategy with each other. This strikes me as just her opinion rather than a hint about any inside information.
That said, I continue to find it interesting that Youngkin has not explicitly shot down the growing rumors he may jump into the race. He’s had plenty of opportunities to do so, but he hasn’t, at least not yet.
The most likely interpretation is he just wants the attention and money this has generated to help him with the statehouse elections. This “smells” a lot like the Christie boomlet of September 2011.

I won’t be able to watch the debate, but I think it’s going to be pretty close to a make-or-break moment for DeSantis. He’s been sliding in the polls, his solid second place position nationally may be fading, and he’s almost certainly going to get the brunt of attacks from the other participants. This could be his first and last chance to make a good first impression on voters who’ve never really seen him up close and personal.
DeSantis’ task is to both show he can fend off attacks from the other debaters without looking peevish and also show the wide swath of voters to the left of Trump and his MAGA base that he’s acceptable. It’s definitely doable. He’s been practicing for the debate for a while with a good debate coach so this could be his campaign pivot point.
If it doesn’t go well, then he could become Rick Perry circa October 2011 and the rumors about Youngkin will only get louder.

All the same people the Trump campaign is schmoozing now will of course go all in to defeat him in the general.
From a Little Birdie who was there at the same restaurant and witnessed it firsthand:
“Not a single conservative media outlet was there. All corporate and left-wing media. On the one hand, it is noteworthy the Trump campaign felt the need to travel the length of the country for a debate their candidate supposedly doesn’t think is worth his time. What rhetorical nonsense. There are no American troops in Ukraine, and are no plans for them to go there. There are hundreds of American volunteers who are now in the Ukraine fighting — one of my best friends is there right now. But you blather generic comments from the Vietnam era about Americans dying in Ukraine. How many Americans have died in the fighting so far?
There are also financial safeguards that provide for supervision of where the funding goes. Most of what is being given Ukraine is military equipment, the use of which is being monitored. NATO is closely involved with planning logistics and strategy with the Ukraine military — it knows what equipment is where.
You seem to be reading off some generic Vietnam era anti-war script. Were you clutching your love beads while posting? Your comments have no relation to the current situation. The war could end easily by the Russians withdrawing. You failed to mention this fact? Why? Are you saying Russia has a right to occupy Ukraine, and no aid should be provided?

If Youngkin somehow became the nominee, Republicans would win the popular vote, win the electoral college by its largest margin since 1988, gain seats in the House, and win control of the Senate with a seat or two to spare. Gameboy, a frank and well phrased comment. Ukraine has been one of the world’s most corrupt countries, paying bribes to Biden’s family, having bio labs, supporting rich oligarchs who have contributed little or nothing to the cause, taking gobs of money (mostly from the U.S.) with no auditing of where this money is going, or whose pockets it’s lining. The info coming out of Ukraine is dubious, at best. How many Ukrainians have really died, or women and children trafficked during Zelensky’s delusional war goals (Crimea being one of his feckless objectives)? However, Zelensky seems just fine with every battle-age Ukrainian dying before he gives any thoughts to negotiating his way out of a mess wrecking havoc on his people.
I also question the objective reasoning of those here who think nothing of sacrificing this country’s well bring and the safety of our citizens for a regional war overseas. Any thoughts of engaging in a conflict with a country having the most nukes, because we are so busy playing a proxy war on behalf of it’s bordering country, does not appear to be of concern or raise any red flags. And then there are the many issues and problems literally ignored on our own home front – the East Palestine toxic spill, the illegal inundation of our border by foreigners, the Maui tragedy, homelessness, out-of-control debt, our dwindling armament inventory with China posing threats to Taiwan etc.. it’s called tunnel vision – focusing obsessively on one issue as everything else is in jeopardy of breaking down.

From Yahoo News:
What’s striking is not just that DeSantis has sunk to a new low on this question (down from 31%) or that Trump has ascended to a new high (up from 57%). It’s that Trump’s support is so much higher head-to-head against DeSantis — 8 points higher, to be exact — than it is against the full field, suggesting that many Republicans who are theoretically open to voting against Trump are not willing to do so if that specifically means voting for DeSantis.
Ultimately, it’s changing perceptions of DeSantis that account for this shift — not changing perceptions of Trump. Among potential Republican primary voters, the former president’s overall personal rating is now 75% favorable to 23% unfavorable, essentially matching last month’s result (76% favorable to 22% unfavorable). But over the same period, DeSantis’s favorable rating has fallen by 4 points (from 71% to 67%) while his unfavorable rating has jumped by five (from 17% to 22%).
Today, just 24% of potential GOP primary voters give DeSantis a “very favorable” rating. That’s down 10 points since July — and down by more than half (from 51%) since last summer.
Lots of pressure on RDS tonight to come out ahead in the debate. This will actually be a glimpse of how he acts under pressure, and will be a moment of growth if he does well.

The Heritage Foundation, which used to be a reference for conservative thought, has now embarked on the self defeating nonsense that the US cannot both aid the Maui fire victims AND oppose Russian aggression in Ukraine. While Amoral Scumbag is still dreaming of the GOP’s dead cat bounce a decade ago, isolationism and protectionism and populism dominate today’s GOP, where a complete moron like Vivek has center stage in a GOP debate and the Heritage Foundation is running ads in support of Putin.
“Community note aside, this has long been the rallying call of the Left. Take money from defense and pump it into domestic spending. There is a profound policy error here as well, in that most of our aid to Ukraine is what D.C. dweebs call “drawdown authority.” It’s a “color of money” term that means, in English, the overseas transfer of existing bombs, bullets, missiles, and tanks that are otherwise collecting dust on the shelves of American armories. In short, unloading old kit that was purchased years ago.
Heritage will take this sentiment a step further with a paid ad ahead of tonight’s debate on the Ruthless Podcast. (Aside: This is an entertaining gem of a program that you should subscribe to posthaste.) The short commercial is something of a non-sequitur, comparing an apple (the mundane transfer of old military equipment to Ukraine) to an orange (the government’s disastrous response to the Maui fires).
But beyond that logical pretzel, it is a profound example of acting against your own stated interest. A defeated Russian army enables the American military pivot to China that Heritage seeks. That is an impossible outcome if we have an empowered Russian army, fresh off a vanquish of Ukraine, squatting along a newly drawn border with Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland. That’s a recipe for a greater, not smaller, U.S. military presence in Europe.”

Interesting way to do a poll. I think it very good to know what percentage of voters might be willing to vote for a candidate:
+Don’t know if 65% of voters would consider voting for Trump is a good or bad number. Seems pretty good considering the controversy around him;
+52% would consider voting for DeSantis is a good number at this point in his campaign;
A problem I see for DeSantis now is he is way too bland. He does not stand out , and is not a good communicater. He has a good record as Florida governor, but it will not get him a lot of national traction without DeSantis becoming a more exciting speaker.

Details: The publication says Ukrainian troops advanced 10-12 miles (16-19 km) along two main lines of attack in Kyiv’s quest to reach the southern coast and cut the Russians’ supply lines.
In the ground war, the Ukrainians are moving south on two main fronts: through the eastern village of Staromaiorske to Russian-occupied Berdiansk; and further west to Russian-occupied Melitopol. “

Former President Donald Trump’s counter-programming debate interview with Tucker Carlson received 33 million views in the first 20 minutes after it was posted on Twitter. Tucker Carlson released the interview five minutes before the GOP primary debate began in Milwaukee at 9:00 p.m. EDT. Fifteen minutes after the debate began, the video received 33 million views. It surpassed 55 million views in 25 minutes and 70 million views after 30 minutes. Fox News averaged 1.1 million views per day during the second quarter of 2023, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
A lot of criticism here about the Trump team meeting with the legacy media beforehand, supposedly colluding against RDS. However, little is being said about the RNC giving total control of the debate to Fox, including leaving qualified candidates like Larry Elder (who is not an anti-Trumper) off the stage. A party that believes conman Donnie Trump and Vivek Ramascammy are its two best candidates for president is not a party that’s worth saving. This is what turning the party over to the populist white working-class voters looks like. It’s a party dominated by nihilists, hucksters, and burn-it-all-down types. It’s a party that celebrates celebrity and is at the mercy of the latest whims to blow through talk radio or the prime-time lineup of FoxNews. It’s a party that believes “sending a message” is more important than winning since winning, to them, means compromising.
The sooner the party moves away from populism, isolationism, and protectionism, the sooner it will start to win again. But not before. Democrats went through a populist spasm at the start of the 20th century and they were almost completely locked out of presidency for several decades. Republicans are in that same spot now. Their voters aren’t interested in winning. They’re interested in making a point and the party apparatus has no idea how to change that nor do they seem all that interested in even trying.
Republicans will start winning the presidency again as they did from 1896 all the way through 1928 and from 1968 all the way through 2004, but that won’t come until this populist spams ends. Unfortunately, I don’t think that will happen until 2032. We’ve got at least two more Trump nominations to go.

It definitely was a good call to skip a debate that would have been dripping with animosity and entrapment type questions. The Fox debate clips I did see were buffoonish – candidates trying to outdo each other in supporting many of the policies Trump had already activated during his presidency. However, the real glaring omission, in all of the Fox-chosen candidates, was how they seemed to gloss over the injustices of dem strategists, to arrest anybody for anything, taking political prisoners in their attempts to control the narrative and keep their power. No matter their dislike or hatred of Trump someone among that human assortment vying for a leadership role should have had the guts to call out the travesty of faux indictments. But, they all had their heads shrink into their shoulders, timidly staying above the fray of controversy. The debate definitely pulled their covers!

You seem to love scoffing at truth. However, this morning, with the interview viewership only growing, the Carlson/Trump interview reached acclaim of being the most highly watched interview in history! It’s too bad people can’t retain their principled choices without going down the path of instantly discrediting the winner of a contest.
In the meantime, the following is a searing analysis of yesterday’s debate event:
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/150-million-counting-trump-triumphant-ramaswamy-runner-desantis-dud
The candidates who did appear on the debate stage in Milwaukee last evening presented an image of betrayal to the American people. That the first debate was on Fox News, the network responsible for prematurely and recklessly calling Arizona for Biden in 2020, added a poetic touch to the general feeling of impotence surrounding the whole spectacle.
Perhaps even more poetic was who Trump instead chose to spend the evening with: Tucker Carlson, the most famous talk show host in America before he was sent to the slaughterhouse earlier this year by the powers-that-be at Fox in a sacrificial offering to the woke deities. Both Trump and Carlson are unified in being corporate media pariahs – maybe the only person more detested by the Murdoch’s than Donald Trump is Tucker Carlson; the fact that the two combined their influences against their shared enemy in Fox, which is now bloodletting viewership seemingly by the day now, is a powerful signal to the forces in this country that otherwise hope to shut down Donald Trump, and the populist furor both he and Carlson represent, for good.
Those who tuned into Wednesday night’s debate received a depressing look into the GOP’s past – and what lies in its future without Trump: timid, boring, and ineffectual “leaders.” The frontrunner’s absence was keenly felt in the lack of energy, vigor, and vision on the stage.

If you recall, RDS thought social media (Twitter now X) was the best place in which to launch his election campaign. A count of views was also followed by the DeSantis people. There are so few people on this blog looking and posting about Trump objectively, which is why I’ve taken a counter point stance. IMO, I think Trump and those who judge him more evenly – including not only the bad and ugly, but also the good in their dialogues – need to be represented in these candidate conversations. If Trump manages to overcome all the obstacles, detours, bogus indictments thrust his way, I will gladly vote for him. If the opposition defeats him I will vote for another R candidate, with the exceptions of Christie and Pence

The fact several posters on this board have quoted from the Grey Zone, a Putin supported Russian propaganda site, show what direction their coming from.

It’s good news, but I think most people don’t realize how long it’s going to take to train Ukrainian pilots to fly a F-16. It can take anywhere from 12 to 18 months. Practically speaking, I think it would have been better to get Ukraine as many surplus Migs (aircraft they already fly) as soon as possible from European countries.

Attacking RDS is very hard to do and would give him more debate clock to respond… which is where he shines. Maybe that is why?
Or so they see Vivek as a Trump surrogate? Don’t know for sure.

It is very hard to try to spin last night as positive for DeSantis. He was largely ignored because the other candidates do not believe he is a serious threat to win the nomination. They believe that Trump has already finished him off and that DeSantis is a dud of a candidate. It would have been better for him to have been attacked and at least have had the opportunity to make news in defending himself.
Yes, Ramaswamy was put on the defensive because the other candidates expect him to surpass DeSantis, but mostly because they simply do not like him and could not pass up the opportunity to fight with him and for good reason. Ramaswamy is a very unlikable person.

The first Republican debate of the 2024 presidential primary averaged 12.8 million viewers on the Fox News Channel Wednesday.
“The debate was the highest-rated non-sports cable telecast of the year in total viewers, overtaking Paramount’s Yellowstone (8.2 million P2+), with 11.1 million viewers and 2.4 million in A25-54, topping ABC, CBS, NBC combined and topping everything that aired on cable television,” says the network.
Thursday’s event outpaced more than 70 percent of all primary debates in 2016 and 2020.
The debate saw seven GOP candidates discuss topics ranging from the economy, war in Ukraine, transgender athletes, and even UFOs.
Participants included Vivek Ramaswamy, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Mike Pence, and Chris Christie.
GOP frontrunner Donald Trump did not participate in the debate, citing his large lead in the polls. Instead, Trump sat down with Tucker Carlson on X, formerly known as Twitter, for an interview that ran counter to the first hour of the debate.
Though it’d be fun to compare the two broadcasts, television viewership and social media viewership are not comparable. Those who compare the two are either uninformed or dishonest.
X counts any user who views a clip for at least two seconds as a “view.” The platform also counts the same user each time they scroll past the video. If one user scrolls past a clip 15 times, they count as 15 views.
By contrast, Nielsen measures television ratings by the average viewership per minute of a broadcast. Meaning, the GOP debate averaged 12.8 million viewers per minute over the course of two hours.
According to Fox Sports EVP Michael Mulvihill, if TV used the same measuring process as X, the view count for the Fox News debate would sit at around 46 billion:

When the report was published it concluded that most intelligence agencies assessed the virus, even if it had leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, was natural rather than manipulated in a laboratory.
Sky News can reveal that this was not the assessments made by the four groups within the intelligence agencies that actually engaged in scientific analysis, who concurred that there was either a highly likely or reasonable chance the virus was genetically engineered.”

What’s happening to Trump is sickening and dangerous.
However, this is again where Twitter is not America. On Twitter, a few of us won the rhetorical/philosophical/factual war against lockdowns, masks, and the poison pokes. I may be the only person alive who has written two certified best sellers about the worst tyranny in American history.
And yet most of America dutifully complied with all of it. Most of America showed no disgust when racialists were allowed to riot as they were locked down. Rainbow orgies were deemed essential but their churches weren’t. Most of America isn’t calling for justice now for all the died suddenly. People like us on Twitter are, but most of America isn’t.
Likewise, most of America isn’t going to rise up on behalf of Trump, either. If they didn’t rise up for themselves or their kids, they’re not doing so for a billionaire most of them have made it clear they don’t like.
Even more unfortunate, most of America is where the votes reside we must win to win a must win election. At some point we have to get back to competing for most of America and not just Twitter supremacy. There are only ever two options in a culture of irreconcilable differences such as ours — policy outcomes or bullets.

It never fails to be eye-opening how diverse news stories display narratives that contradict each other, which is why it’s so difficult for the ordinary reader to find the truth. For instance, SDC posts many pro-Ukrainian pieces saying the counter offensive is making progress. However, there are other commentaries out there painting a much darker picture where Ukrainian field commanders are killing their own service men for desertion. Other comments describe the destruction of steel (equipment) which cannot be replaced because there is nothing to replace it with. The death tolls too seem to be minimized by one side vs over 500,000 on the other side. Maybe at the end of this endless conflict more will be sorted out, separating facts from fiction. Maybe those Ukrainians, who survive Zelensky’s ambitious fight with Russia, will be able to add truth to power from their own personal interaction with all the side effects this war has produced.

Another example of how events can be magnified and then described according to the bias of the person writing it, are the Twitter views of the Trump/Carlson interview have vs the R debate. The 12.5-13 million who watched the recent TV debate was compared to debates that had higher numbers, leaving out the 2015 debate with Trump which garnered 25 million viewers – almost double of the recent debate. The Twitter views of Trump’s interview has reached almost a quarter of a BILLION – a number that has been maligned as not real. However, during RDS election announcement on twitter, his people bragged about the enormous numbers of 800,000, perhaps reaching upwards to 10 million – touted as an historic number. That was true, then. But, the Trump interview surpassed that number at the beginning of the interview, reaching a 100 million at the end to 240 million as of this date.

“That being said, I hope Trump is not the nominee. But EVERY R, conservative, independent, libertarian or dem who is not a communist (yeah, I know, not many left) should be united in condemning the charade of these indictments, whether you hate Trump or not.”
Your right Jason. I guess I am too cynical to even believe that is possible anymore in our country. Everyone is too passive. I just want to win hoping that might bring justice.

Vivek says it will all be controlled by an Afghan-style warlord in the end so we should give all of Ukraine to Russia. And toss Taiwan to China as soon as we can make our own semiconductors ’cause that is what we should do with allies once we have no use for them.

Taiwan has the ability to easily kill over 500 million people in China by targeting the gorges damn.
They don’t need the USA’s help to completely destroy China should they choose to have virtual mutual assured destruction

Yes, it’s a fact Russia was the one who invaded Ukraine, with the passive permission of Biden. War crimes have been committed, actually by both sides. However, Russia invaded first, so they will carry the burden of responsibility for this war.
Russia would have to pull out of both the territory taken over by Russia in the current conflict, as well as hand over Crimea to Zelensky. That’s not going to happen, which means many more bodies will have to pile up on both sides before any peace is achieved.
No one really knows what the true number of casualties are. Each side gives their own figures – numbers that usually support they are “winning.” Both of course can’t be true. But wishful thinking softens the blow of losing ground – applies to both Russia and Ukraine. IMO, our government, the Pentagon/CIA, should be the last to be believed.

If Ukraine isn’t winning, then we need to be sending more aid and weapons. NOT LESS for fuck’s sake.

Either way, we can agree that Vivek is an idiot.

Vivek foreign policy in a nutshell:
– Signal our resolve by bailing on our commitment to Ukraine and let Russia rebuild its empire.
– Undermine our traditional alliances in Europe
– Protect Taiwan until we get what’s ours and then, well…
I’m sure China will take us very seriously.
