This can’t be. Liberal politicians have sworn that once the homeless have places to live, they will become normal, law abiding citizens.
You don’t suppose there could be another problem, like drug addiction? Perhaps the solution is to put them in drug treatment?
Maybe we should go back to the bad old days we’re a choice was given to either (1.) go into mandatory drug addiction treatment (2.) or go to jail?
“A Los Angeles hotel sustained $11.5 million in damages while the city used it as a federally sponsored homeless shelter.
The city included the Mayfair Hotel in Project Roomkey, a federal initiative to turn California hotels into temporary homeless shelters. At the end of the hotel’s time in the program, the city quietly paid the hotel’s owner to cover damages from residents. Social workers assigned to the hotel lamented its condition in emails obtained by the Los Angeles Times.
“Participant in 1516 Threatened staff, Security, destroyed property. Screamed. Yelled cursed. Everything went wrong with her. Inside and outside the building,” one social worker wrote. Another recounted how “a male in 1526 assaulted another resident in Room 726.”
The Mayfair represents the latest instance in which state and local governments have paid a huge price to address the homelessness crisis in California.”

There are multiple Republican candidates who’d be better than any nominee the GOP has had since 1984. But the frontrunner is worse than anyone in a GOP field since David Duke ran.
– I don’t necessarily agree that DeSantis, Scott, Haley, and Pence are better than any nominee the GOP has had since 1984 for one reason. While they’re almost certainly more conservative than either of the Bushes, McCain, or Romney, I’m not sure they are nearly as good as those nominees were as politicians.
I do agree Trump is the worst since David Duke ran for president in the GOP, though. Trump is black death for the party at every level. Even when he wasn’t on the ballot in 2022, he cast a pall on Republican candidates. He’s awful, but it seems it may take two more presidential cycles (2024 and 2028) for Republican voters to get the message.
Thankfully, by the time 2032 rolls around, the horrific boomers will no longer be a major factor in Republican primary politics. But for the next six or seven years, Trump and his goon squad supporters will remain the key force and that’s great news for Democrats.

The super PAC supporting DeSantis, in a memo published online on the website of the group’s main strategist, encouraged him to do things like say nice things about his family and defend Trump from Christie attacks @jonathanvswan @ShaneGoldmacher me.
– This is terrible advice, but it explains why DeSantis has done nothing but slide in the polls and may be effectively done by Labor Day.
At this point, if this is the strategy DeSantis actually follows, it would be better if he just endorsed Trump and got out of the race.
And when Trump is the nominee once again in 2028, hopefully some of you will finally realize the strategy of saying nice things about him was stupid. But more than a few of you have shown you believe you can learn something by getting kicked by a mule a second, third, and fourth time.

Right now, I think Glenn Youngkin is more likely to be the Republican nominee in 2024 than Ron DeSantis. Obviously, Youngkin isn’t going to run so this is just a way to say how unlikely I think it is that DeSantis can pull his campaign out of the ditch and beat Trump.

I watched some of the election summit footage held in Missouri this morning. Representatives from all 50 states were present, as well as a myriad of speakers presenting detailed analysis surrounding the many questionable aspects and final vote tallies of the 2020 election. Judge Gableman (former WI Supreme Court Judge), for instance, stands by his earlier findings showing the fraud in that state swung the state over to Biden. Basically, more people now believe in the “stolen” version of the 2020 election than those who see it as legitimately processed. Eventually, I think, the “big lie,” will reverse itself from those refuting the election results, landing on those dishing out talking points and dismissing election dissent as part of a big lie.

This piece augments my doubts about RDS’s policies should he become president. Will he be his own man, or will he be beholding to his donor’s wishes and agenda?
Ken Griffin – a hedge fund billionaire and leading Ron DeSantis donor – doubled down on his support for investing in China, admitting that the communist country is “incredibly attractive to us as investors.”
In the recent Bloomberg profile on investment strategies pursued by Griffin at his hedge fund Citadel, the multi-million-dollar DeSantis backer highlighted how Citadel would enjoy a continued – and likely expanded – presence in China.
In a section titled “China Growth,” the article reveals that “Griffin is more upbeat on China, where he expects economic growth to surpass the government’s targets even though there’s a lack of confidence among investors.”

The memo leak about the strategy DeSantis should employ in the upcoming R debate was posted in a public place. It directs RDS to hammer Vivek, criticize Biden, and defend trump. It’s all being orchestrated by his handlers as to what he should say and defend, and not seemingly from his own principles. Supposedly a super PAC should also not be influencing a primary election. However RDS seems to have crossed many lines in order to use whatever money he may have access to.

It seems we have some trouble finding a new President who will stand up for America against our two principal adversaries. The Biden Administration is soft on China and allowed multiple espionage and commercial acts of subversion to occur, including the Chinese land grab. They are tougher on Russia, but only up to a point where they seem unwilling to give Ukraine the tools to finish the job.
Trump is unpredictable and infantile in all of his discussions about there two threats, mostly personalizing complex national security issues as if they were not about entire nations and their policies. He has an absurd 24-hour secret “peace plan” that no one expects to do a thing, trying to coerce each side of the conflict to some resolution that he has not figured out yet.
DeSantis seems tough on China, which is overdue. But he is so confused in Ukraine, that he thinks we should just pull the plug and cut aid in January 2025. Leaving our allies in NATO alone and Ukraine to the potrential mercy of Russia. This plan, DeSantis states, will help deter China. DeSantis seems infantile in his inability to connect the dots, since he also argues the Russia invaded Ukraine out of perceived weakness of the U S from the Afghanistan withdrawal. DeSantis seems oblivious to the very real consequences of Russia’s invasion and the void created by the US losing interest.
Can we get a President who recognizes the very real threats to the United States from both Russia and China? We should not have to make it “either or.””

If the Chinese attempt to cross the 100 mile straits and invade Taiwan, it’s going to be swarmed by thousands drones. Probably each will have explosive power that can disable and even sink Chinese vessels and landing craft.
Keep in mind also that NATO meetings are now attended by Japan, South Korea and Australia & other Asian countries. Also India and China had fought a recent border war. China does not have a lot of friends. And Putin is in no position to help.
Then there are China’s internal issues. It’s economy is tanking. It has an aging and shrinking population. And most importantly it has no major naval experience or tradition.

BREAKING: Ron DeSantis let Ken Griffin rework legislation to allow Chinese Communist Party members to buy land in Florida.
news.yahoo.com
Ken Griffin Reshaped Law Banning Chinese Real Estate Purchases
(Bloomberg) — When Florida Governor Ron DeSantis pushed through an anti-China crackdown in his state earlier this year, he won praise
Ken Griffin is all in with China. He wanted a carve-out for his Chinese Nationals employees to buy FL property, & was able to influence DeSantis to provide a work around in Florida’s law, prohibiting foreign purchases, permitting his employees to buy homes in Florida.
As the array of candidates begin to show their attributes, their inclinations it becomes clearer what kind of policies these people would be drawn to. Vivek, for instance is appearing to be a false conservative, especially in his recent comments regarding Taiwan. Christie is a puffery kind of guy who individualizes himself by his profound hatred of Trump and appeasing Zelensky. DeSantis seems more and more like a hollowed out candidate- He looks good on the outside but has a compromised core of beliefs on the inside – stances to be changed on the fly when it becomes beneficial to him – whether it’s his support/or not of Ukraine; his defense/or not of Trump; upholding FL law/or not of discouraging foreigners buying property in Fl; or how legitimately he disburses funds from super PACs and PACs/or not. Trump, OTOH, is open about conveying the good, the bad, and the ugly about himself and what kind of policies he would support, because all you have to do is look at his record in the past.

Sununu and Kemp are classic establishment republicans. Trump’s candidacy does nothing to help their “good old boys club,” which is why they are no loss in the bigger picture for someone trying to form a smaller government on behalf of the people. This time will be no different, which gives Trump a David vs Goliath type of allure.

Bill Barr warned Trump that he would spend the rest of his life tangled in the criminal justice process. And it is happening. So far Trump has spent over $25 million on legal fees — an amount that will continue to grow.
If he fails to win in 2024, his legal fees will likely still be accumulating, but will he still be able to raise enough money to pay them?
Giuliani has already asked Trump to help him with his own legal bills. Trump said no. Will Giuliani facing insolvency, enter into a plea deal in return for testifying against Trump?
I suppose if he loses the election, Trump has the option of filing yet another bankruptcy if he runs through all his own money. Assume his attorneys are aware of this and likely demanding their bills be paid and kept current. How long can the Trumptanic be kept afloat?
“Barr said during an interview appearance with Fox News. “And during this time, he was being told by lawyers in the White House that if he kept on doing this, he would spend the rest of his life tangling with the criminal justice process and that’s exactly what’s happened. He shouldn’t be surprised and no one else should be surprised.””

What’s happening is frightening. I am not a Trump supporter. I honestly believe that if he loved the country more than himself he would recognize the need for new leadership and throw his support behind someone else who would fight back.
All of that aside, the same people rigging the elections (a common activity of the left) are likewise making a mockery of the judicial system by seeking to determine who can run for office by indicting and convicting those out of power. Again, the standard playbook of communist activists for a long time now. I have to admit. I do not know how we can unturn this page in our history. Every nation that has gone down this road either collapsed, or, if they threw off the yoke of tyranny it was through violent revolution.
Those who are pushing this agenda have one goal in mind: destruction of the United States, and the enshrinement of their own power in perpetuity.
The only way to fight back is to win the Presidency, House and Senate in 2024.

Arguing in favor of Youngkin running is the timing. His name is hot right now and he has a platform as governor from which to run. In 2028, he’ll have been out of office for three years. Also, Biden is extremely beatable. If Youngkin got the nomination, he’d win. Finally, Youngkin would have loads of donor support and would be right in the sweet spot to attract and win back suburban voters who would rather puke than vote for Trump.
Arguing against Youngkin running is Trump. He’ll go after Youngkin in the nastiest ways and it’s not clear Youngkin would have the guts to fight back. Youngkin’s strategist in 2021 was Jeff Roe and Roe pioneered the “hug Trump to finish second” strategy. Also, FoxNews, despite Rupert Murdoch, would be against Youngkin. The hosts like Jesse Watters and Laura Ingraham won’t break with Trump because their low information, poorly educated viewers will not break with Trump.

If not I would wait for the GE and vote for the most conservative, honest candidate on the ballot, unless it was Pence, Christie, and now Vivek (changed my mind on him). My biggest issues are our lawless border, China’s toxic influences in this country, and the overreach of big government/DOJ. Unlike many here, although my sympathies align with Ukraine, I believe our proxy war with Russia mainly benefits the “guns and butter” aspects of war, and is primarily draining the US of resources in short supply here – money and armaments.

https://t.co/CcRpKNxIoQ
– This story is far more about DeSantis than it is Youngkin. DeSantis just hasn’t caught fire with primary voters and it seems unlikely he will. His assumption was that he could pick off the Trump cultists by offering them “Trump, but without the crazy”. In fact, though, the group who were ready to embrace DeSantis were those who wanted an alternative to Trump. At the start of the year, that group was as large as 60% to 65% of the primary electorate. It’s still there, though, but probably not as large.
As for Youngkin, I think he would be a great general election candidate. Far better than any of the Republicans running. The problem is the primary. Republican primary voters aren’t that interested in winning right now. Most would rather just make a point. See Mastriano, Lake, Masters, and several others from 2022.
I do think it’s noteworthy Youngkin has refused to quash the idea of a presidential run. It seems clear, based on a lot of stories, he’s interested in a run. However, I still think it’s far more likely he says no. Right now, this has the feel of Chris Christie’s dalliance with a run in September 2011. Donors desperately wanted him and GWB personally lobbied him to run. He said no, though, and missed his chance to be president. I bet that is weighing on Youngkin’s mind. It’s a long time to 2028 and he’ll have been out of office for three years by then.

As the story noted, the filing deadline for the primary in Nevada is October 16. If Youngkin waits until after the November elections to declare a run, he would be ceding that state. I’m not sure anyone would be beat Trump there anyway, though.
The question is whether someone else could put Youngkin’s name on the ballot in Nevada as a placeholder. He could, of course, say he had nothing to do with it, but it would leave open the option of running.
Of course, this is all hypothetical and Youngkin is unlikely to run, but it’s better than contemplating Trump as the nominee and the wipeout loss he’ll produce.

I never said DeSantis would be a great general election candidate. I thought he could beat Trump in the primary and then beat Biden in general election because Biden is so weak. I think Haley, Scott, and Pence would also beat Biden in a general election, but I wouldn’t say I think any of them would be great candidates. Maybe Scott, but not the other two.
Unfortunately, DeSantis isn’t going to win the primary. He’s run a bad campaign right from the start and his poll numbers keep slipping. His announcement on Twitter Spaces was terrible and he’s had to fire or replace the vast majority of his staff in just three months.
Youngkin would be far better in the general than Desantis because Youngkin doesn’t have all of the hard edges and abrasiveness that DeSantis has. Youngkin is precisely the kind of candidate a party that wants to win would nominate, but there’s not a lot of evidence the party wants to win.

Phil gets it. It’s about winning. Youngkin would present the best opportunity. However, he’s probably not going to run and I don’t think he could beat Trump in the primary. The base just isn’t interested in winning as its top priority right now.

Now, you claim to be for DeSantis, but you mock him by calling him the Golden Calf and all the while you never say anything bad about your MAGA Daddy. Why? Because you are 100% for him, believe his elections lies, and think he is the rightful president right now because of it.

Dumb maybe. Equal I don’t think so. Trump has said some pretty nasty things about RDS. The mind control Trump has over his most devoted is cult like. Now he is establishment…RINO…Donor Class…all a bunch of lies Trump propagated. Don’t think it’s equal. Regardless until it’s a two candidate race Trump has the upper hand.

What you fail to either get or acknowledge, JeffP, is that RDS was performing in one state with a much smaller visibility than what a national stage offers. He had people crooning over him for accomplishments made with a favorable legislature at his behest. Yes, he was a good governor, but even now people are saying he has changed since eying becoming president, and is not the same old Ron that seemed far more independent-minded as governor than he does now as a presidential candidate – appeasing his handlers, donors, and establishment politicians like Kemp and Sununu.

Zzzzz….. the Golden Calf is going to have a lot more coming his way if he is the nominee than Trump’s insults.
There is no free lunch. This is the big leagues.
I warned you long ago that the Golden Calf was going to have a real challenge getting the blue collar/working class support Trump has.
At the time, you and your fellow TDS moron idiot Neville Allen assured me that the Golden Calf was LOVED by the FL working class and that no worries, the blue collar/working class vote was his guaranteed.
The only reason Trump’s lies are resonating is because as I predicted, this vote was not assured at all and the Golden Calf was going to have to bust his ass for it.
Christie wants to attack Trump during the debate and is already criticizing the Golden Calf for defending Trump. The Golden Calf should not take the bait, he should defend Trump where warranted if he wants to be the alternative for the nomination. Let Christie corner the TDS vote which is less than 10% of R primary voters.
God, I hate being right 99% of the time. But someone has to.

Trump has the blue collar, working man’s vote because he showed during his first term that he had their backs as well. He has brought in literally millions of new voters into the Republican Party – data that even surprised the RNC elite. Saying that Trump ”lies” is a misnomer too. He exaggerates, uses hyperbole and is too self-congratulatory. But, more often than not his analysis or take on something is spot on, even prescient.
As for RDS, he is now onto another tactic to grab attention – using other politicians to share the stage (Tim Scott) with him, or campaign at his side (kemp, a well known TDS politician who refused to even hold a requested for special legislative session to look over charges of election fraud). While Scott might help DeSantis in SC, Kemp will not in Georgia.

Great take here… DeSantis: “A movement can’t be about the personality of one individual. We don’t want to be listless vessels who wait for whatever comes down the pike on Truth Social.”
The movement: “DeSantis is a RINO who should drop out, donate all of his money to Trump’s legal bills, and apologize because Trump demanded it. Did you see the latest poll on Truth Social?”
The entire MAGA movement revolves around Trump’s legal issues, fake polls, and hating DeSantis, a governor that they all loved until Trump told them not to.
You can call DeSantis a big meanie, a hater, or a RINO…but you can’t call him wrong when it comes to this.

Feeling empowered after his boost from Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp, a man of notoriously intemperate disposition, presidential candidate Ron DeSantis begins the process to align himself with the neocon establishment and labeling Donald Trump supporters as “listless vessels” devoid of principle, who simply “follow whatever comes down the pike from Truth Social every morning.”
Appearing with a young millennial wearing a beaver tail on his head, namely Will Witt from the Florida Standard, Ron DeSantis outlines his opinion that the MAGA movement is only driven by the support of President Donald Trump, a person who has exhausted his usefulness in awakening the electorate. As a result, the high-minded superior intellects of the Republican Party now need to step in, reestablish the core values of the conservative movement, and put the squirming MAGA children in their play pens.

As usual, Tinfoil is not correct. Those who are charged in state court can petition to have their cases moved to federal court IF IF IF they are charged for actions that were done in their official capacity as a federal office holder.
Trump, when he was attempting to overturn an election he lost, was acting as a political candidate, not a president. Inserting himself into the inner workings and vote counting of a state is not the job of a federal office holder, especially when no crime has been committed by the state.
Mark Meadows has a plausible case to say he was acting in his official capacity when he claimed to be setting up meetings and calls for his boss. A judge may not go for it, but at least he has an argument. Trump’s claim is going to be a tough hill to climb.

DeSantis was 100% right with the listless vessel comment. There are two factions in the GOP right now – the Conservatives and the Populists. RDS and his allies are generally conservatives and Trump and his allies are generally populists.
The Conservative wing of the GOP is firmly anchored in conservative principles and the Trump populists follow Trump’s direction at any particular time, they often do not adhere to traditional conservative principals. Some things Trump does and proposes are typically associated with the Left, some with the Right. Trump will shift on a dime, fluctuating Left to Right, with no regard for conservative principles, and his allies move along with him when he does. The Trump populists don’t have the guardrails that a set of principles gives to conservatives.
DeSantis’ ‘listless vessels’ comment about the Trump wing of the GOP not being anchored in conservative principles and instead somewhat adrift, wherever Trump decides to go at any given time, was spot on accurate. And he’s right that it’s not sustainable, because you can’t be a party of one man that bounces all over the place, at his behest you have to be a party of principles. You can’t wake up every morning, look at Truth Social, and be told what your guiding beliefs are going to be on that given day.
His comment might have offended and angered some people, but it’s objectively and verifiably true to anyone paying attention.
Finally a successful conservative Governor is a long shot to win any GOP nomination.

Nothing wrong with being a MAGA supporter, but I hardly qualify.
I don’t support Trump for the nomination, I support the Golden Calf. My criticisms of Trump are well known, and I have always agreed he is not a conservative. He is a crony capitalist opportunist who ended up being a pretty good President nonetheless. If believing he was unfairly targeted during his presidency, is being persecuted by a rogue justice system now, and that Biden’s win by 42k votes in 3 states with multiple election issues was most likely fraudulent makes me a “listless vessel” so be it.
And I have news for JeffP, most of the Golden Calf’s supporters are populists too. The R party primary voters are mostly populists, deal with it. Is the Golden Calf a real conservative compared to Trump? Absolutely. But unless he can get the populist vote, he won’t be President, because they are the majority in the GOP.

And of course JeffP is hardly a conservative either. His undying devotion to a KGB thug like Putin and his failure to see the threat posed by Russian expansionism and the recreation of the Soviet Union disqualify him from being a conservative, not to mention his willingness to sell out every conservative principle he pretends to have by supporting a partisan system of justice and the far left MSM talking points because its is against Trump.

Putin has been badly weakened. And NATO is stronger than ever. The price was well worth the result.
