    Third time’s the charm?

In what they say is his last campaign shakeup, DeSantis “reloads” his campaign, replacing manager Generra Peck with his chief of staff & chief political fixer, James Uthmeier.

DeSantis offered him the job after a weeklong review.

    – It will be interesting to see if this results in a change in tone and/or direction. DeSantis’ campaign has been a rudderless ship since his stupid Twitter Spaces announcement in May.

Peck was clearly in over her head. What it takes to run a good gubernatorial campaign is not the same as what it takes to run a presidential campaign.

DeSantis has five months to drive home a consistent message. As Kevin Madden (a great Republican comms guy) noted on Twitter yesterday, that means repeating it three times a day and not just occasional drive-bys.

‘Trump was a good president and he is being unfairly targeted. But he cannot win the GE, I can, and I can both continue the policies that delivered a great economy for the American people and combat the weaponization of the government against free speech in general and conservatives in particular. If Trump is convicted of any of these charges, I will carefully review them so that justice prevails”

If this is his message, he might be able to at least deny Trump a majority of delegates if not a plurality.

If he takes the advice of the TDS morons or a Dem troll like Amoral Scumbag who thought it was a great idea for Jeb! to spend $40 million on ads attacking Rubio then he will lose.

Here are two very good legal minds providing contrasting opinions on the Trump case. I profoundly respect Mott, as an attorney and particularly for his support of the Ukraine. Am not sure he is right on this one though. It is definitely going to the Supreme Court.

    “@randymot4
The indictment attempts to make speech about challenging the electoral college a crime. That speech is protected by the First Amendment as there is a procedure to challenge electors. Asking for alternate electors to be certified was dumb, but it is not illegal…

    @stochasticman99
“unless this advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action.”
Your cited precedent does not apply to Trump’s case. As the indictment made VERY explicit, it was his actions that he is being charged with.”

Here is the case Mott is referring to:

    @randymot4
The Trump January 6th indictment is an unconstitutional train wreck. Anyone thinking otherwise needs to read Brandenburg v Ohio, US Supreme Court. https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/395/444/
Then make your case that the criteria of Brandenburg have been met. If this case was filed in a neutral court, it would be dismissed. Don’t make arguments that Trump’s conduct was wreckless, inappropriate or just crazy, I will stipulate that.

I believe the argument Mott is making is that Trump, Eastman, etc tried to talk Pence to do illegal actions. But Pence refused. So talk and theories were presented, but Trump did not attempt to block Pence when he said no, and the Electoral Votes were counted.

While Zelensky is going around in his trade mark olive fatigues, rubbing elbows with the world’s elite and begging, sometimes demanding, more aid, his field commanders are getting tired of seeing young Ukrainians getting chewed up on the battlefield. These young men have little training in the weaponry being provided. And, their bravery and love of country alone will not win the war their president is saying will be a 10 year “war of attrition.”
In the meantime, U.S. sentiment is reversing itself, people no longer wanting Congress to grant large aid packages, as we are in need of that aid here at home. The BBC is also becoming less supportive of indefinitely enabling Ukraine’s war with Russia, as their economy is suffering along with their own ammunition supplies. Then there is NATO who appears to be losing patience with Zelensky’s entitlement attitude, expecting more and more aid with no end in sight.

China is pulling away from Putin.

“China has signalled it is willing to attend further international talks on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, according to European officials who hailed its “constructive” participation in a Saudi Arabian forum that excluded Moscow.

The weekend talks in Jeddah, which were attended by dozens of countries and focused on a 10-point peace plan proposed by Kyiv, concluded on Sunday without concrete developments. But the presence of Beijing, which weeks earlier declined to attend similar talks in Copenhagen, was seen as a coup for Kyiv and became the focus of the event among participants.”

Instead, people are starting to tune out the indictments/actions against Trump, according to Google Trends.

The public’s attention to former President Trump’s legal drama has declined with each subsequent indictment, according to new data pulled across television, social media and search activity.

The biggest spike was the first indictment, the Alvin Bragg indictment, which many legal experts tagged as ridiculous, and the spikes have been smaller ever since.

[T]he mind numbing repetition of it all… is supposed to do just that: numb the mind so that sense making feels impossible and paying attention seems pointless,” New York University’s Jay Rosen told Axios in an email.

    What a bunch of baloney.

Ukraine continues to push the Russians back. They just attacked across the Dniepro River from Kherson. Not to mention Russian ships being hit in the Black Sea and Moscow before hit by drones.

Where are the Russians advancing now? In several months the Ukraine will have F-16s, and they will control the air. The F-16 is an amazing jet fighter.

The recent Gallup, Harvard/Harris, Reuters/Ipsos, Redfield & Wilton and Reagan Institute poll all show strong support for military aid to Ukraine. The CNN poll has already had its methodology questioned, and does not have much credibility.

For a period of time in the White House, I served as the National Security Advisor to Vice President Pence. While I respect his service to our Nation, I must express my disappointment in his recent actions regarding President Trump. It is not the decisive leadership that we have seen from President Trump. Where President Trump is bold and unafraid to challenge the status quo, Pence has often chosen the passive route, avoiding confrontation. This lack of assertiveness, combined with an overreliance on failed political consultants like Marc Short, has demonstrated a laisse-faire leadership style unworthy of the Presidency.

While President Trump has consistently put America first, prioritizing our citizens, our economy, and global standing, Pence’s actions have often seemed more focused on political maneuvering and maintaining his image. That is not what Republican voters want. President Trump’s dedication to the prosperity and security of the United States is unwavering, as is his vision for the future

Pence is not evolving into the good guy, but rather an opportunist who changes his colors when it serves him to do so.

Beginning in the summer of 2020, when myriad states, legally and illegally, changed their voting rules in a way that removed all safeguards against fraud, it was clear that there might be problems in November. Then, on election night, six major precincts — election outcome–changing precincts — stopped counting votes altogether. When you add in all the other evidence adduced in subsequent weeks showing fraud (including Biden’s unbelievably soaring vote count long after the election ended), there was good reason to question the election. Mike Pence has now conceded that he believes he could at least have opened the path to question election fraud.

He admitted that he could have rejected the electors on January 6, 2020, which would have turned the matter over to the House of Representatives (AKA the people’s house), but did not do so because he feared “chaos” (which I take to mean he was afraid of what leftists would do, given their propensity for “mostly peaceful” riots that burn down cities and murder people)

So now Pence changes his tune, probably because of the enormous backlash felt by people disbelieving his excuses for not sending disputed electors back to the states requesting such.

No, I am afraid a campaign based on insulting the 80% + of Rs who approve of Trump’s presidency is stupid and counterproductive.

Trump’s negatives have been baked in long ago. That is why his numbers are not changing with the fake indictments and all the negative attacks by the MSM and their allies like Fat F–k Christie.

There is no upside in being anti-Trump. The only upside is being a better Trump than can win.

Trump’s base is already suspicious of the MSM. They already know the deck is stacked against Trump. So when they see the TDS morons taking the side of a corrupt system against him it only cements their view that he is the only viable candidate for them.

The Manhatten Institute has come out with a poll of Republican primary voters in Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire. One of the questions asked concerned aid to the Ukraine. It reflects most other polls that show about an even division among Republicans voters on aid to Ukraine. Add that to the overwhelming support among Democrats, and polling has consistently shown by 2 to 1 that the right amount of aid is being provided or not enough aid.

“That said, Republicans are more closely divided on the Biden administration’s continuing support for Ukraine. Roughly equal numbers of primary voters in each state say the current administration is doing too much as say the administration is doing too little or about the right amount (Figure 25).”

    More from Manhattan Institute poll:

“Despite GOP primary voters holding more conservative views on race- and gender-centric social issues, they still list the pro-life and pro-Second Amendment causes—which conservatives have invested in building infrastructure around for decades—as higher priorities. That said, it is significant that cultural issues like CRT and protecting girls’ sports—which have only come into national focus in the last couple of years—now run only a few points behind abortion in terms of importance to Republicans (Figure 2).

It is also notable that more than a third of voters in Iowa and South Carolina—and nearly half in New Hampshire—say they would prefer a candidate who does not focus on any of these social issues (Figure 3). After all, each of these matters lag far behind the three issues voters consistently cite as their top priority in the presidential contest: inflation and the economy (IA: 28%, SC: 34%, NH: 29%), taxes/government spending (IA: 15%, SC: 12%, NH: 17%), and immigration and the border (IA: 14%, SC: 15%, NH: 14%).”

    “The State of the Race

The Manhattan Institute’s findings on the race for the Republican presidential nomination are consistent with many of the other 2024 GOP polls to date. Trump (IA: 42%, SC: 43%, NH: 44%) holds a commanding lead over the GOP field with DeSantis in second place (IA: 17%, SC: 21%, NH: 13%). The third and fourth place positions vary from state to state. Tim Scott (IA: 10%, SC: 11%, NH: 7%) and Nikki Haley (IA: 5%, SC: 8%, NH: 7%) hold the next two slots in their home state of South Carolina, but Chris Christie (IA: 4%, SC: 3%, NH: 11%) and Vivek Ramaswamy (IA: 6%, SC: 4%, NH: 8%) are better positioned in New Hampshire (Figures 4–6).”

“Previous challenges have been made to certification of presidential elections with little basis (including by Democrats) and even alternative sets of electors have been submitted without criminal charges.

This criminal intent is based on Trump being told by many people that the election was not stolen and he could not stop its certification. I was one of those who maintained that Trump was wrong on the election, Vice President Pence’s authority to void the results, and the Trump team’s challenges. However, Trump followed the advice of a second, albeit smaller, set of lawyers who told him there was a basis for challenging the election.

That is not a crime. It is, in my view, protected political speech.”

I was extremely respectful of Sloppy Chris Christie today in New Hampshire. During a speech in front of a large crowd of Patriots, somebody shouted out that “Chris Christie is a fat pig.” Rather than acknowledging that, which many speakers would have done, I said, “No, No, he is not a fat pig.” I’m sure Chris would have been very happy with my defense of him!

Trump made two very costly mistakes for himself and the nation.

He should have replaced Comey on Day 1, he was entitled to do so. He should never have appointed Sessions who stupidly recused himself over a social conversation and thus allowed the SC to be appointed. Had it been a better and smarter AG, the SC would never have been appointed and Trump would have had a real chance to govern and clean out the swamp. As it was, basically his 4 years were devoted to surviving, not governing.

Naive? but for someone that hasn’t admitted Trump is being used as controlled opposition your being a little ridiculous…the Woke Commie Dems play for keeps… you know that…the majority of GOP still don’t think Trump will be found guilty in a rigged system against him. I read this morning Steve Deace talked to a pollster from Iowa who said their polling showed 60% of the GOP in IOWA thinks Trump will not be found guilty of ANY charge. I find it hilariously naive…the righteous rage of DOJ abuse helps solidify peoples denial. Biden won’t even be impeached for his crimes. Hunter a slap on the wrist.

Trump suspending his campaign…which he won’t do…is the nightmare scenario for Woke Commie Dems for 2024.

It appears RDS has began to run against Trump and try and convince the margins as you suggest and I possibly agree with. He is the best conservative candidate. Do I think he wins no. He’s breaking records on fundraising and has a supporting super PAC with $100 million in the bank and an incredible ground game. Get ready.”

Joining Uthmeier as a deputy campaign manager will be David Polyansky, an experienced Iowa operative who boasts of never losing a Republican presidential primary in the first-in-the-nation caucus state. Polyansky is currently an adviser to the pro-DeSantis super PAC, Never Back Down. He spent extensive time with DeSantis this month on his repeat visits to the first-in-the-nation state, which is crucial to DeSantis’s chances against frontrunner Donald Trump.

The campaign’s senior adviser and pollster, Ryan Tyson, will have an elevated role along with Marc Reichelderfer, a seasoned political operative and Tallahassee lobbyist who is currently advising the campaign.

Replacing Uthmeier in the governor’s office as acting chief of staff will be Alex Kelley, who is currently Florida’s Secretary of Commerce. Vivek Ramaswamy is in second place, ahead of Ron DeSantis, in a new poll conducted by Ramaswamy’s pollster (though it’s not clear who paid for this particular poll).

    Trump 53
    Ramaswamy 11
    DeSantis 10
    Pence 7
    Scott 3
    Haley 3
    Christie 2

    8/1-3

    – Assume for a moment this poll is accurate. If true, it demonstrates the party Jason fraud wants is not the least bit interested in winning. It’s interested con artists and frauds who scratch the itch of terminally online boomers who would rather bitch and moan that actually win and fix problems.

Also, if this poll is accurate, it shows what a terrible campaign DeSantis has run.

Sets up nicely for a DC conviction in the spring – conveniently immediately after Trump has sewn up the nomination after Super Tuesday. At that point Republicans are stuck with a convicted felon on the November ballot without enough time to win an appeal prior to the general election.

Just a couple of words of wisdom regarding law enforcement agents killing the the guy in Provo, Utah. (A city I lived in for over a decade). These are recommendations to live by:

    1. If you do not want federal agents/local law enforcement knocking on your door early in the morning, do not broadcast statements like this on social media:

“I HEAR BIDEN IS COMING TO UTAH,” one threat read, according to prosecutors. “DIGGING OUT MY OLD GHILLE SUIT AND CLEANING THE DUST OFF THE M24 SNIPER RIFLE. WELCOM, BUFFOON-IN-CHIEF!”

    2. Do not expect law enforcement to come talk to you while your shopping, or midday, because they want to make sure there are no civilians around who could be hurt if your a nutjob and might start shooting.

    3. If federal officers comes knocking on your door early in the morning. Don’t pull a gun on them or you will be aerated.

I am grateful law enforcement put this wacko down before he hurt anyone.

He made several other posts showing off guns and expressing intent to use them forcefully against government officials, including FBI agents investigating his social media.

Robertson shot first, and law enforcement returned fire:

“The neighbor’s eyewitness account provides the clearest picture so far of the fatal encounter between authorities and 75-year-old Craig Robertson.

After the sound of about six gunshots, “you hear them yell ‘shots fired, shots fired. He has a gun!’ And then a whole bunch more shots,” said the neighbor. There was such a loud barrage they were unable to tell how many times the agents inside Robertson’s home fired. “They were all shooting at the same time … and at that point in time, I was in get-my-kid mode.””

    Trial takes place in January.

Guilty verdict handed down conveniently right after super Tuesday and Trump becomes the inevitable nominee.

Trump is sentenced to prison early summer but too early to get the case reversed on appeal before the GE.

Now Convicted felon Trump is defeated soundly in the GE.

One of the most imbecilic theories by the Putin toadies here is that somehow we cannot look after our strategic interests around the world because we “don’t protect our own border”.

The stupidity in this idea is mind boggling. The reason the border is not protected is not lacking funding, it is because of the policies of the current administration that doesn’t want it protected. We are spending billions housing and feeding and transporting and providing services and healthcare to illegals.

If we stopped funding Ukraine today only an absolute freaking moron would think that money would then be used to “protect the border”.

If you want Ukrainians to continue to be slaughtered and your hero Putin to prevail, just say so.

Don’t couch it in make believe idiocies about how helping Ukraine defeat Russia’s aggression and keep Putin from recreating the Soviet Union is somehow the reason we have open borders.

Among those hundreds of ways is going to his house, stating you have a warrant and demanding he surrender, and if he doesn’t you go in and get him. His choice to respond to that by shooting at law enforcement was just that, HIS choice. No one forced him to shoot. He made a choice and law enforcement responded appropriately. All he had to do was surrender and go through the process.

At 75 with health problems I doubt he’d spend a day in prison. He’d have lost his guns, but he’d still be alive to spend time with his family. The availability of other options doesn’t mean the one they chose was wrong. And to be honest, if reports that he was always armed are true, trying to take him into custody in another manner could very likely have resulted in innocent people being injured or killed.”

  276. Andrew McCarthy has said Special Councils choose attorneys to head them from outside the government. In the case of the Biden’s, David Weiss is the Delaware attorney who orchestrated Hunter’s original “sweetheart deal,” which was surprisingly rejected by the judge. Weiss has now canceled that deal, so that it can be shopped with another jurisdiction more willing to cover for Hunter Biden. McCarthy goes on to explain, by having a special council in the hands of a friendly prosecutor, it gives control back to the DOJ where they can limit Congressional queries for evidence by saying the matter is “still under investigation”. – a line repeatedly used by FBI Director Wray when he refuses to respond to Congressional questions.

    For Trump Supporters:
I don’t think y’all realize how serious his legal exposure is. It is extremely serious. If you’re a Republican, this is bad. We will be picking our nominee in 2024. Innocence or guilt notwithstanding – Trump’s damaged goods. It doesn’t matter if the charges are fair or unfair. Or if it’s the “Deep State” or the “Swamp”. It’s a political death penalty for his candidicy. It will be impossible for him to win the General Election. He’s at 31% approval now – 40% with independents. He might even be in jail! And he’s running around calling our best alternative candidate a “Son of a Bitch”. Nice. He’s a hard pass for me.
    —–
    Horseface Trial
Manhattan is 98% Democrat, he’ll very likely lose the the Horseface Trial. He can’t get a fair jury there. No chance.
    —–
    Espionage Act
He moved military intelligence docs around – lied to his attorneys – because “he had golf shirts he wanted” and hid them after a court requested them for a grand jury. The docs were under subpoena and he hid them! There are 84 witnesses scheduled to tesify against him. And they have the documents that they found AFTER the raid – Trump’s attorney swore that they were all returned. Sounds bad.
    —–
    J6 Shenanigans
    Overturning an Election
Trump and his cronies (Flynn, Powell, etc) scheming in the White House to overturn the election – talking about invoking martial law, that crazy kind of stuff. Refused to act immediately after the J6 shenanigans started – his daughter, among others – and staff begging him! It wasn’t an insurrection, but it sure the hell was stupid.
    —–
    The Fulton County Indictment
He called the Georgia Sec of State Raffensperger and told him to “find me 12,000 votes” so he could flip Georgia into his column. Trump ALSO tried to have fake electors in Georgia vote for him as the winner. Eight of the fake electors took immunity deals and are cooperating with the Grand Jury.

  307. I am surprised Bitter was near Grantville. Grantville proper has a Dollar General, a B&B. a used car dealership with about 5 cars in the lot, a bar where jockeys from the racetrack hang out, and a bank. The last time a country club suburbanite was there was in 2007 when someone took the wrong exit off the Interstate.

To get to the casino you have to drive through a cornfield. Heavy woods surround the concert area, probably the closest Bitter has been to a forest in 50 years.

Zzzzzz….there was WH counsel on the call and other people from both sides, There is zero evidence Trump was asking for anything illegal, considering the very close numbers he wanted to make sure all legal votes were counted and all illegal votes were not.

If Trump somehow wanted to ask for something illegal he could have called Ratburger privately, but he didn’t.

“Garland’s appointment of Weiss is one of the slimier things that’s occurred during his tenure, and that’s saying a lot. Weiss has intentionally ignored evidence, cut investigators out of briefings, and then took them off the case. And we don’t know for sure yet, but it sure seems like Weiss was calling the shots to not bring criminal charges against Hunter Biden (at least until the IRS whistleblowers forced his hand) and to keep investigators away from Joe Biden, while claiming that it was “Main DOJ” telling him what he had to do. It seems like we’re all involved in a real-life “Who’s on First” scam being perpetrated by Merrick Garland and David Weiss, designed to keep responsibility shifting and accountability from occurring until the clock has completely run down.”
