As has been said: “Appeasement is the policy of feeding your friends to a crocodile, one at a time, in hopes that the crocodile will eat you last.”. Now it’s the Chinese demanding appeasement:

“When all this is considered, arming Taiwan is asking for trouble on a global scale. Taiwan and Beijing can settle their disagreements by themselves. Frankly put, disagreements between the two are none of America’s business.

So we in the US must stop our government from arming Taiwan. And we need to get our military out of East Asia. It is an ocean away, and no power there is threatening the US. We do not have Chinese warships off our Pacific coast, nor do we have Chinese troops or Chinese military bases anywhere in our entire hemisphere.

China calls for peaceful coexistence and a win-win set of relationships between us. Let’s take the Chinese up on that. “

PBS/Marxist Poll — bottom line: “The numbers say there’s no way Joe Biden can win re-election unless he’s running against Donald Trump.
    __________

“Overall, 64 percent of U.S. adults said they do not want to see Trump become president again. That includes 92 percent of Democrats, 68 percent of independents and 27 percent of Republicans. At the same time, 34 percent of U.S. adults (including 71 percent of Republicans) want to see Trump get elected for a second term as president.

While Trump’s announcement that he would run again in 2024 was initially met with “some excitement among Republicans and Trump’s base,” Washington-Price said “you’re also going to see his numbers fall” as the GOP wrestles with “an identity crisis.”

Over time and across escalating legal actions against the former president, including an historic 34-count felony indictment, Heye said more Republicans think “Trump has too much drama around him, too much chaos.”

The Republican Party is increasingly on the lookout for a candidate who can focus on taking back the White House, rather than swatting at a growing number of scandals, Heye said. Once a viable candidate emerges, Heye suggested that will make a difference in who Republicans choose to support. For Biden, “you have the advantage of time,” but that will only last so long, he said. “The numbers say there’s no way Joe Biden can win re-election unless he’s running against Donald Trump.”

So if it is held that President Trump did play a role in an insurrection against the U.S., that disqualifies him from being U.S. president under the 14th Amendment,” Ramaswamy said. And he charged that “I do not want to see my opponents eliminated because of the actions of a corrupt federal administrative police state.”

    Pretty strong.

This is the political assassination head shot from the grassy knoll.

Taiwan has provided non-military aid to Ukraine. An Taiwanese volunteers are fighting in Ukraine.

    “From Taipei Times

Taiwan’s survival is directly connected to that of Ukraine. If Russia is perceived as “winning” in Ukraine, meaning that it annexes and holds significant parts of Ukraine with consequences Russia can accept, then China’s temptation to invade Taiwan might grow ever greater.

However, if Russia is defeated, then the Kremlin’s ability to assist Beijing during an invasion would be dramatically reduced, and it would serve as an example to China about taking big military risks against Taiwan.

Therefore, Taiwan should help Ukraine, because it is in Taiwan’s direct interest to do so. Taiwan needs a soft power strategy to help Ukraine against Russia”

He is the first known East Asian soldier to die fighting in Ukraine. Tseng joined after Ukraine broadcasted a request for volunteer soldiers at the outbreak of the war, and was in combat for five months. He is among the roughly 100 volunteer soldiers who have died in battle since the fighting started. Tseng’s family was given a state award by President Zelenskyy for his courage and sacrifice.

Interestingly, in contrast to other countries that have explicitly discouraged their citizens from volunteering in the war and avoided any appearance of sanctioning their activities, the Taiwan government officially recognized Tseng’s death,”

If the New Hampshire poll is accurate, DeSantis may be finally gaining momentum.
I may have written him off too early. Here is a favorable comment about him:

“If this is accurate, DeSantis is winning with voters who have children in their households. Trump is winning with childless people and empty-nesters.

Is it any wonder? Trump supporters are seeking revenge for the past, while DeSantis supporters are seeking a better future.

That’s what happens when you have young children to worry about. Chaos and unpredictability get old and you realize that stability and sanity are the way forward.

I said last week that the mom-shaming from Trump’s surrogates would backfire on him. I also said that the Mamas for DeSantis movement would earn him more support from parents of young children. Hopefully this trend continues and I end up being right.

Going forward, I think this is the group that DeSantis needs to keep targeting, instead of people who could care less about the Parental Rights Bill or the psychological damage that Covid did to school-aged children. This is who he will continue to win over.”

California spends $42,000 per homeless person. It doesn’t go to the homeless. It goes to pay for government programs and salaries. If your salary depends on continuation of homelessness, your not going to want to end it:

“California put aside $7.2 billion to address homelessness in the 2021-22 state budget. Last year, there were an estimated 172,000 homeless statewide, which equates to spending nearly $42,000 per homeless person.

Spending of this magnitude – which only accounts for state money – is sufficient if it were applied effectively. The worsening crisis indicates that something is off with how the state spends its resources.

This perspective is important in light of a comprehensive homeless survey by UC San Francisco. Many of its findings are enlightening, but too many of its suggestions call for more spending.

It strains credulity to believe that spending $42,000 per person is insufficient, but if bumped up to $45,000, all will be OK. California does not have the worst-in-the-nation homeless crisis because it spends too little.

Continued calls for more government subsidies supporting the state’s ineffective housing-first approach will waste money while failing to alleviate the emergency. “

China may be headed for a period of economic stagnation similar to what Japan went through:

“BEIJING, July 18 (Reuters) – China is entering an era of much slower economic growth, raising a daunting prospect: it may never get rich.

Whether the world’s second-largest economy chugs ahead at 3-4% annually or flirts, as some economists expect, with Japan-like “lost decades” of stagnation, it looks set to disappoint its leaders, its youth, and much of the world.

Policymakers hoped to narrow China’s development gap with the United States. Young Chinese went to universities to study for advanced-economy jobs. Africa and Latin America count on China buying their commodities.

“It is unlikely that the Chinese economy will surpass that of the United States within the next decade or two,” said Desmond Lachman, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

He expects growth to slow to 3%, which “will feel like an economic recession” when youth unemployment is already above 20%. “This is not good for the rest of the world economy” either, he added”

Pence did his Constitutional duty as President of the Senate. I am about facts not feelings. You never did show me in the Constitution where the VP had the authority to send the electors back to the states. It’s not there. Trump was completely wrong to ask Pence to do what he asked.

The push for faithless electors in 2016 was to have the actual electors vote differently than they were required to vote.

The fake Michigan “alternate” electors were not the actual electors, were never appointed by Michigan as the electors pursuant to Michigan law, had no authority to vote at all, and are charged with forging and submitting a fake certification of a vote that allegedly took place and then submitting that fake certification to the Senate and National Archives (and recording themselves attempting to file it at the Michigan Capitol but getting stopped by the police because the real electors we’re inside casting the actual votes, and then uploading that to YouTube).

Looks like Putin is trying to shut down Russia’s pro-war bloggers. They are hardline war supporters, but their crime is they speak the truth.

“Russia opened a criminal case against Colonel of GRU Vladimir Kvachkov, a close Girkin’s ally and a member of the “Angry Patriots Club”, accusing him of discrediting the Russian Armed Forces.

He’s what one could describe as a quintessential vatnik, a lover of spreading anti-Western, anti-Ukrainian hate, conspiracy theories, and imperialistic, pro-Soviet views. He’s reasonably respected in the military.

Despite appearing to be a perfect Putin supporter – Kvachkov is an experienced military man and spetsnaz theorist, it did not save him. Earlier, Kvachkov joined Girkin in the critique of the Russian Armed Forces, but was arguably more severe in his insults directed at Putin.

  78. The alternative electors, for the 2020 election, were chosen in all the states that had flagrant election issues. This is like what happened in the 1960 election, when HI certified the presidential election for Nixon, but also named alternative electors for Kennedy. Once ballots were sorted out, showing Kennedy actually won by a small margin, the Kennedy elector votes were honored, the original election decertified and given to Kennedy. This serves as a precedent now being deliberately ignored by the Dems, and a warning to others not to participate in any objections to a questionable election laden with irregularities.

These MI electors (mostly senior citizens) were named as alternatives on the ready, should election errors or malfeasance be proven, committed no fraudulent act. Sending disputed cases back to the states for more clarification has happened before. Pence knew this, but crapped out anyway, which is why he has cultivated the disdain of so many, including myself. Not only did Pence carry on with certifying an election burdened by so many questionable illegalities, but he did so by bypassing all the preparations of contrary evidence, indicating the illegitimacy of vote tabulations in many swing stays, done by at least 100 house members.

Fundamentally, there are many unanswered questions and injustices arising from our current election system. Having a corrupt DOJ, FBI, and state DAs trying to arrest, prosecute and inject fear into others only serves to increase the public’s impression that elections are no longer legit. Efforts to harangue a front runner off the board, as well as those who support him, is certainly not going to mend the fractures indigenous in both parties. It will now be the court of public opinion who makes the final 2024 election decision, based more on who they see as an evil villain, an establishment pawn, or a victimized hero. So far DJT is out in front, with people increasingly seeing him as more worthy of the presidency than all the rest.

“⚡The Chinese Ambassador to the United States said that from the very beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, his country has openly and repeatedly expressed its position.

“We stand for the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.

He added that China does not want to challenge or supplant the US, but grow with it.”

The Michigan electors were not on the ready. They tried to submit their alternate results for Pence to accept on January 6th.

Until verifiable chain of custody issues are remedied in mail in and dropped off ballots, open sourced electronic voting, and voter roll verifiable ballot recounts…nothing will change. There is a candidate who actually addressed many of these issues in their own state as Governor.

Not feeling the need to defend conman Donnie and his love for Xi, Putin, and Kim can be liberating.

Trump is a bad person. Period. End of story. You know that, but you’re willing to vote for a bad person. I’m not. This isn’t the same as being asked to vote for John McCain when I clearly didn’t care for some of his policies or some of the deals he cut like the judicial Gang of 14 way back in 2005.

But rather than have an introspective and much needed look about how the party got to the point of justifying a riot to overturn the election conman Donnie lost (you said it was just some pushing and shoving), conservatives decided to believe in conspiracy theories and believe Biden (a sundowner with mashed potatoes for brains) is somehow the mastermind of a mutigenerational crime syndicate.

Honestly, it’s you and the rest who aid and abet Trump’s immoral behavior by excusing it every day of the week and twice on Sundays who are, in fact, the ones who find voting for Democrats acceptable because you are the ones who continue to demand that we must vote for an objectively immoral, buffoonish clown for president.

I spent much of my life in Republican Utah which is fiercely pro-Ukraine. All the Utah Republican leadership attended a pro-Ukraine rally when the Russians invaded the Ukraine. The support is still as solid now:

“SALT LAKE CITY (Feb. 28, 2022) — Gov. Spencer J. Cox praised the courage and patriotism of Ukrainians in the face of Russian aggression and asked Utahns to support Ukraine during a rally at the Utah State Capitol this evening.

“The assault on Ukraine has exposed Vladimir Putin for what he is — a brutal dictator hell-bent on forcing his will upon another sovereign nation without provocation,” Gov. Cox said in a statement. “Tonight, as Utahns and as Americans, we stand united against oppression. We stand united for democracy. We stand united for freedom for Ukraine.”

He also emphasized that this is Putin’s war and urged the world not to retaliate against innocent Russian people.

“Many innocent lives are at stake, those who have fled Ukraine, those who have stayed fighting for freedom, and innocent Russians who live abroad as well as those who live in Russia under Putin’s repressive regime,” Gov. Cox said. “We pray for them all tonight.”

Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, Senate President J. Stuart Adams, House Speaker Brad Wilson, Rep. Jordan Teuscher and Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall also spoke before the crowd of an estimated 2,000 people. Fr. Anthony Savas of St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church, Rabbi Sam Spector of Congregation Kol Ami offered prayers, and a Ukrainian woman named Anna offered an impromptu prayer in Ukrainian. Vlada Yaramenko, Dallyn Bayles and Yahosh Bonner performed musical numbers. The flag of Ukraine flew above the east side of the state Capitol, freeway signs changed to “Utah Stands with Ukraine,” and state universities and private businesses throughout the state showed their support by projecting yellow and blue lights on buildings and outdoor features.”

Wash DC and NY, for instance, are jurisdictions where Dems are far more likely to fare better in court than republicans do. That’s why court shopping is a common legal excursion these days.

There was relatively little legal help in the days following the 2020 election. The RNC just stood by, even though there were funds available to do more. Barr literally refused to accept letters from states implying there was fraud that needed his assistance to look into. The thousands of affidavits submitted were from the grass roots, voluntarily done despite facing legal consequences if they were deemed to be untrue. Look what’s happening to the MI seniors who became an alternative slate of electors should they be needed.

It is shocking how Joe Biden never appears to have acknowledged Hunter Biden’s serious drug problem, or attempted an intervention to get him into treatment. Instead him seemed perfectly content to let Hunter Biden continue to personally self-destruct. Meanwhile, Joe Biden got his financial take from Hunter Biden’s influence peddling activity throughout the world.

Senator @ChuckGrassley just released the FD-1023 form at the center of allegations that then-Vice President Joe Biden was engaged in a criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national.”

“Regarding CHS’s aforementioned reporting that Zlochevsky said – “he has many text messages and ‘recordings’ that show he was coerced to make such payments” – CHS clarified Zlochevsky said he had a total of “17 recordings” involving the Bidens; two of the recordings included Joe Biden, and the remaining 15 recordings only included Hunter Biden. CHS reiterated that, per Zlochevsky, these recordings evidence Zlochevsky was somehow coerced into paying the Bidens to ensure Ukraine Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin was fired. Zlochevsky stated he has two “documents (which CHS understood to be wire transfer statements, bank records, etc.), that evidence some payment(s) to the Bidens were made, presumably in exchange for Shokin’s firing.”

We can only do those things if we defeat the far-left and out of touch Biden radicals and remove them from power by electing a Republican as president who will once again right the American ship and get us back on track and give us a government that we demand and deserve.”

It would make sense for him to step aside and endorse Ron Paul for president if he was 15 years younger but certainly not TinyD.

  159. You may be right Phil. However, Trump has defeated a lot of dire predictions before about his survival on the national stage. Trump was a good president during his first term, despite the garbage thrown at him. He also had a lot of ideas for his 2nd term, including thinning DC’s bureaucrats, dealing with Iran and continuing inroads made in the ME via the Abraham Accords. I think if he had been in the WH, instead of Biden the last 3 years, we would be 100% in better shape than we are now.

In recent interviews Trump continues to have policy ideas and grit in pushing back the horrible agenda Biden inflicted on this country. The Heritage Foundation is working project2025, in signing up employees ready to go in a new R administration, something missing at the start of 2017, when there were a majority of Obama hold-overs implementing policy. These R staff recruiters were at the TPUSA convention in Florida, and looking at DJT as being the next president..

Nate Silver is being attacked viciously by liberals for pointing out that the evidence for a lab leak as the origin of COVID-19 was initially suppressed by Fauci & friends:

    “@NateSilver538
This is a huge scandal. Scientists like @K_G_Andersen believed a lab leak was extremely plausible, if not likely, they concocted a plan to deceive the public about it, and they’ve been caught red-handed. There’s not really any ambiguity here. They are unethical as it gets.

    @NateSilver538
The fact that people like you are trying to sweep this under the rug is an embarrassment to science. The facts are clear. Public trust has been severely—and deservedly—compromised. The least you could do is to start righting the ship by calling out their unethical behavior.”

(What was said in private was different than what was said publicly)

“Andersen (3/17/2020): “we do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible.”

Andersen (4/16/2020): “I’m still not fully convinced that no culture was involved. We also can’t fully rule out engineering (for basic research).”

I am amazed. Nate Silver is on a crusade to get the bogus Andersen paper withdrawn. It was originally published (at Fauci’s encouragement) to refute the Wuhan lab link theory. Then at a press conference, Fauci refer to the paper as scientific evidence there was no lab leak, without mentioning he had commissioned the paper.

    “@NateSilver538
I’m not a big petition guy but if Nature isn’t ready to retract this paper on their own that’s a big L for their credibility and about as clear a sign as you can get that they’re elevating politics above science. This paper was not the result of any sort of scientific process.

    @JBKinny
It’s been cited over 5800 times. Fauci cited it, in a press conference, telling the American public it was good evidence against a lab-leak. So it’s a *very* influential paper. And it’s fraudulent. It should be retracted.

    @NateSilver538
Let’s start by 1) retracting the “Proximal Origins” paper; 2) having scientists like you (i.e. people sympathetic to the natural origins case) call out Andersen et al for their gross misconduct. Then we might have the semblance of an honest discussion.”

Had you or I done that, not only would we have been charged, but we also would have been placed in pretrial detention in a federal prison. So Trump is getting special treatment by not being jailed. And as of noon on January 20, 2021, Trump was no different than you and I were, a private citizen.

Despite all of this, all he had to do was give the documents back when asked (a privilege no one else would have gotten) and none of this would have happened. But because of his arrogance and stupidity (along with taking legal advice from non-lawyer Tom Fitton) he got himself indicted. The only saving grace he’s gotten is the trial judge.
