The majority of the stadium was rooting for Iran.
I don’t know if these were terrorists, Democrats, or just Iranian immigrants and refugees who cheer for their country no matter who runs it.

There was nothing political at the game. Sweeps of the crowd showed no signs or messaging of anything remotely related to the “war”. The Iranian players did not do anything overtly patriotic or unpatriotic when they scored or during the national anthem.
If you didn’t know what the situation was, you wouldn’t learn about it during the game.

The New Zealand team is quite physical and the Iranians were on the ground often during the game. They whined a lot about it, but the referee was Mexican and wasn’t impressed with Iranian players rolling on the ground like they had been shot.
In the end, a tie was probably a fair result even though I was rooting for New Zealand, the lowest ranked team in the tournament and consequently its biggest underdog. Yes, even lower than Haiti and Curacao.
