Bold print indicates a Dem (Blue) state in today’s terminology.

YYY indicates that the state also allows for people to register to vote, and then vote, on Election Day. Twenty states, plus Washington, DC. allow for election day registration/voting shenanigans. These include those below with the YYY plus ID, MT, WY, NM, MN, IA, WI, IL, MI, MD, VA, ME, NH, CT

“Request-required mail-in ballot systems, traditionally known as absentee voting systems, mean eligible voters must initiate the process of receiving and casting mail-in ballots. Dozens of states allow voters to mail in their ballots without specifying why they are doing so…

On the other hand, automatic mail-in ballot systems, sometimes called all-mail voting systems, require that elections officials automatically send mail-in ballots to all eligible voters ― who can then return their ballots by mail or via designated drop boxes.”

A number of states (including WV) have now pulled out of the multi-state compact that shared info with one another to catch and prevent people registered and voting in different states in same election.

With all the people moving about the country (high mobility), it is no wonder that state voter registration rolls become quickly outdated.

  24. Apology accepted, Retlaw, LOL! I think the universal mailing out of ballots with almost no controls, as outlined in your post is very problematic and needs to be addressed. However, since I moved down here in Florida and observed their process, which requires an application, signature verification and certification, as well as a requirement that all ballots get received prior to Election Day , I’ve changed my views on it. It seems to work well and Florida is able to tally every vote on election night without a hitch. The ballots must be sent in within a specifically issued envelope, coded for each ballot , that also is traceable and auditable. The system seems to work well and is a far cry from the fallen chad days down here.

  25. I oppose mail in ballots because you don’t really know who used them to vote.

But let’s face it, in the future probably everyone will have a password and you will be able to vote by facial recognition or similar technology, and that will ensure the person who is registered is voting. I think going back to 100% paper ballots at this point is somewhat anachronistic.

I recently returned from a international trip and for the first time never showed my passport. The Global Entry kiosks were deactivated, we just stepped in front of a camera, and a guy at computer said “ok good to go”. A couple people in the line got told to divert to the conventional passport control booth, but I would say 98% were waved through.

I think that is the future of voting too.

  35. Bitter, you’re joking, right?

what Trump is clearly stating is that every exhibit is about how bad slavery was. His complaint is that not EVErRY exhibit should be focused on this or race based issues. The Smithsonian should also have exhibits anbout our nations greatness as well.

if you have been to the Smithsonian in the past 4 years, you will know that he’s right.

Yep definitely TDS, particularly since a purportedly trained lawyer would know how to read basic English. Only TDS would prevent that.

Fla2025, in defending Trump, makes a personal attack on Bitter.

All hell breaks loose and the discussion devolves into mudslinging and vicious attacks.

It is hard to believe – most of you are adults, you all frequently have intelligent things to say, but you seem to enjoy rolling around in the mud more than engaging in civilized discussion.

I would hope you would all agree that DJT has done a lot of good things since he was elected – in essence, he has turned the ‘ship of state’ around and sent it in a better direction.

While doing that, he has made some mistakes and said a bunch of dumb things. Any statement that seems to suggest that there is too much emphasis on slavery being bad is tone deaf at the very least. There are millions of people who believe that the legacy of slavery still controls outcomes today, and all of them would likely be offended by Trump’s comment.

Attacking a sitting member of the FOMC – whose term lasts until 2034 – is not very smart, even in the service of putting more pressure on the Fed. When you add the fact that she has impeccable credentials and is sympathetic to the goal of lowering interest rates, the attack is incomprehensible. Finally, closely following the slavery remark, he chooses to attack the first black woman to serve on the FOMC; that adds a racist tinge to his recent actions.

Perhaps he should just sit back and relax for a minute or two.

The problem is with moronic cultists is that since Trump is always 100% right (even if it goes against what the moronic cultist used to believe here) if you say ANYTHING remotely critical about ANY of his policies you are automatically slated for attract.

Even if you quote Trump verbatim, you must be “missing” what he was really thinking, which of course could never be wrong.

Could not sleep last night…so was laying there thinking about how the if the close 1960 election turned out and Nixon won rather than JFK…could have had far reaching changes in what happened I history…

Prior to 1960 we had multiple consecutive presidential terms, then 8 years of republican president. Then period of election turmoil and back and forth in the next bunch of elections.

Prior to 2000 we had 8 years of Dem. Clinton, then 8 years of Rep. GHB, Then 8 years of Dem Obama, then period of elections turmoil and back and forth in next several elections.

    *********************

If Nixon won that close one in 1960…

–the secret U.S. plan to overthrow Castro in Cuba would have been successful and Khruschev in USSR would not have felt emboldened

–no Cuban Missile crisis in 1962

    –no JFK assassination in 1963

–No Vietnam war, (as JFK was stung by his in Cuba Bay of Pigs failure to stand up to communism and his failure to stand up to Communists building Berlin wall, was looking for a place in the world where he could show he was willing to fight back against communism…)

–Probably no NIxon Watergate Scandal in 1972

–and who would have been elected president in 1964 or 1968? Certain would NOT have been Nixon.

    ******************

2020 election. If we avoid a Biden victory… and if instead Trump gets the win, then we probably have:

    –no disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal

    –no Russia invading Ukraine

–no open borders and flood of countless millions into U.S

–POSSIBLY no Hamas starting war with Israel?

–And Trump would have finished his 2 terms and we could have had _?_ ads president today and have moved well beyond the TDS we see today as Trump as president would be in the rear view mirror…so we would have had no Trump assassination attempts….

  64. Another thing I thought about while trying to go to sleep was the top FOUR mysteries that still bother me:

–First, the JFK assassination, number of bullets fired from bolt action rifle at moving target, etc. etc. who was behind it/involved in it (other than Oswald)

–Second, how so many people over so many decades got caught up in the Global Warming scheme.

–Thirdly, how many UFO crashes, objects, etc. have happened that the U.S. govt. gathered up and analyzed.

–Fourthly, What REALLY happened in the 2020 election. How much double voting by people registered in 2 states, how many mail in ballots cast by people other than who it was addressed to, what all went on regarding contested ballots and who finally was awarded that vote, how much of lots of other things….

I have read (not sure of accuracy) that Trump won 18 of the 19 historically key bell weather precincts across the nation in 2020 that almost always determine who would win nationally.
