I do not understand the rules of Bridge. Walt is a master at card games. I heard that he made a lot of money playing Whist against British officers before the Revolution.
I am not crazy about Trump’s ban on mail in voting EO.
I think the best argument against the Dems HR-1 or whatever it was bill was that it federalized elections.
Once you let the cat out of the bag where states lose power in determining election laws then the Dems will one day ensure Rs never win any elections again.
I hate mail in voting, but an EO is not the way to address it.
I am sure NYC, who probably used to oppose federalizing elections, will be here in 3, 2, 1 to declare this EO is the greatest idea he has ever seen since the last conservative idea he sold out on.
I agree, Jason. The Constitution as amended gives little power to the Federal government over elections. The only thing the feds can do is choose the time and day of the Presidential election, and to insure all states submit their electors on the same day. It says nothing about elections for Representatives or Senators.
Remember the annoying messages they put on the ends of the fields or the back of the helmets? According to ESPN, they’re back, and they’re adding a few:
All 32 teams will feature an end zone message of their choice at each home game throughout the season, selecting from four options: “End Racism,” “Stop Hate,” “Choose Love” or “Inspire Change.” Once again, “It Takes All of Us” will be stenciled in the opposite end zone for all games. The only change from 2024 is that “Inspire Change” replaces “Vote.”
The league will use “End Racism” along with “It Takes All of Us” in the back of end zones for all international games for the second straight season.
The vote by mail process down here in Florida works well. There are signature requirements and other verification measures to ensure fraud is eliminated. I don’t understand why instead of fighting a battle to eliminate it, why not try and get these type of measures applied nationwide
Have there been any leaks on the proposed security guarantees for Ukraine? I would think they would need to. be rather robust and tangible this time around. After the prior guarantees given to encourage them to give up their nukes were easily waived away by Obama and the Brits, I think they are owed something more ironclad to encourage land concessions this time around. I would think Boots on the ground to be part of the mix, but I haven’t seen anything.
Secondly, we now have weeks and weeks of “early voting” prior to election day.
Thirdly, we have absentee ballots, whereby people who are not going to be able to vote on election day (or early voting days) can still have a way to vote if they are out of state on vacation or whatever or going to be undergoing a surgery and hospitalized for an extended period.
Fourthly, we now allow overseas voting for those Americans living, going to school, working in other countries.
Fifthly, we have mail in ballots. Which EXPLODED in POPULARITY supposedly due to CROWVID.
*****************
I DO think MAIL IN voting is very RIPE for fraud. I do not really see why we do allow for widespread mail in voting.
IMO–MAIL IN VOTING SHOULD BE RESTRICTED, if not eliminated altogether (I would still favor absentee ballots being allowed)
You can vote on election day,
or early voting days,
or vore an overseas ballot if you are in another country on military duty or working or going to school there,
or apply for and get an absentee ballot if you are going to be out of state or in hospital, or away on your honeymoon, or whatever
We really do NOT need to have 1/3 or more of all ballots to be mail in ballots.
–it clogs an already dysfunctional ad expensive mail system
–it costs more money for state governments to mail out all the mail in ballots and costs more to create and monitor numerous “drop off points”to collect mail in ballots
–it causes tons more work for local election officials
–it is an insecure system regarding chain of custody
–increase the likelihood of double voting of people who live in state A but are going to school and living on campus in college in state B; or who vote “early” in state they just moved from and then vote again in state where they just moved to and legally registered
–it encourages ballot harvesting at nursing homes, apartment complexes, etc.
–it is NOT a secret ballot since others could get hold of and fill out the ballot, or coerce or bribe the voter to vote a certain way
–it is a lazy man’s way of voting where those casting mail in ballots are the most likely to be the least informed voters concerning issues.
Scott Bessent says President Trump inviting Putin to Alaska was “kind of like inviting your uncontrollable neighbor to your house and showing them your gun case.”
Tina, but does that preclude European troops? I don’t think the Ukraine would ever concede to give up any Russian occupied land without something like that, particularly after they were so screwed with those prior, fake guarantees after handing over the nukes.
Last year I was provided a Goldman Sachs report on US food inflation. If I recall correctly, a majority of food price inflation was related to soaring fertilizer costs (not labor, like I had thought), which were significantly impacted by this conflict. They estimated If the conflict resolved allowing for the importation of Russian/Ukrainian fertilizer components again, it would result in a significant fertilizer based food price reduction within six months of conflict termination. I forget the estimated percentage but it was pretty good. So, aside from the lives saved, there is a real financial benefit to the world economy if we can come to a just peace here. Hopefully they can pull it off.

The issue of mail in ballots…
Firstly, we have in person, election day voting.

Yes, only Euro troops supposedly (20,000j.
We will provide the eyes and ears. (Aka intelligence services).
No NATO membership. Remember, the cause of the war was demented pushing for the grifters enrollment into nato.

There will be territorial concessions by both parties.
However, as noted by me at the onset of the stupidity, the grifter will give up. Ore territory now than when the fat Pm blew up the negotiations.
Presidents matter. Demented was dumb for insisting on nato membership and allowing a Russian incursion.

If demented was not so weak and stupid, and the Fat slob pm did not blow up negotiations, a deal would have been reached years ago.

Tina continues to lie. The “deal” was Ukraine to surrender its sovereignty and become a puppet state for Putin.
