Why doesn’t Trump just appoint Richard Werner as Fed chair because inflation is probably going to come back giving our spending problems.
He argues for using quantitative credit guidance instead of interest rates to control bank credit creation (and therefor control inflation at its source)
This system was used in post WW2 Germany as well as Japan until the early 80’s (then Japan quit using it and created a massive housing bubble leading to a 40 year recession)

Great news!!!
This amazing announcement has just been published. Hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars in mRNA vaccine development contracts are being canceled and redirected. An unambiguous statement that these mRNA-based products are failing to meet efficacy standards.
“The data show these vaccines fail to protect effectively against upper respiratory infections like COVID and flu. We’re shifting that funding toward safer, broader vaccine platforms that remain effective even as viruses mutate.”

Something that disgusts me. 3 names. All “Christian men” who enabled and abetted the Russia collusion hoax and beyond. Pence Pompeo Auten All three are central to multiple hoaxes. They wrap themselves in their “Christianity” to cover for what they did to take down POTUS. But they ignored the 9th Commandment. Do not bear false witness.

Personally, I am tired of being judged by white people here at HHR too.

Sorry, I doubt Pence and Pompeo were involved in any effort to “take down Trump”.
Was Pence disloyal to Trump? I think so, but that was only after the 2020 election, Pence was pretty loyal to Trump during his presidency. So was Pompeo.
I still like Pompeo. I used to like Pence. Now I think Pence is a weak, pathetic, spineless figure.

Has there been any discussion here about congressional redistricting by states?
I was involved in it in WV as a legislator.
It may vary by state constitution, but in WV it could be done only once every ten years. I believe that is in the constitution, so to change that would require a vote of the people to change the state constitution.
There are national guidelines/hard suggestions that are supposed to be adhered to (and we were solemnly charge to abide by) including keeping CDs geographically compact and not shoestring/gerrymandering, and not drawing districts so as unfairly disenfranchise minority groups–lest any new redistricting would run a foul of the courts.
In WV, over the various redistricting cycles, there was one State House of Delegates district that was created and purposefully kept in Kanawha County(where Charleston is) to more or less be an AA district. Ironically, most of the years I can remember the district was represented by a white Dem. Only about 3 of 20 of the most recent two-years terms was a Dem AA actually elected.
We have elected Blacks from various other House of Delegates districts in southern WV, Huntington, Morgantown, Northern panhandle and Eastern Panhandle despite none of those house districts having a majority AA population.

Governors in most states DO have the authority to order the arrest of delegates who flee from the capitol in an attempt to deny quorums so legislation cannot be passed. Itr has happened before in WV when some delegates fled to Ohio. When apprehended within the state, State Troopers physically would bring them to the capitol building.
The legislature has a sergeant of arms and his people are empowered to go find legislators within the capital building and bring them to the legislative chamber.
I think TX governor Abott has a valid argument of declaring a state legislative seat vacant if someone accepted a plane ticket to go out of state so a quorum could not be established and legislative work could not be done.
From what I understand, CA was the state that started gerrymandering redistricting most recently to disadvantage Rs in CA.
I think that CA and NY governors saying they will call for newad redistricting in their states to counterbalance what TX is doing should be against the law. Also the courts should strike down any effort to do just that.

CA and NY can go ahead and try to gerrymander more than they already are. Good chance it will backfire on the Democrats in both of those states.

Rs are way underepresented in IL, NY and CA.
There is a risk, even in TX, when you bleed voters in “safe seats” to create more seats for either party.
In good years for the party, it could pay off big. But when you make safe seats less “safe”, in a bad year you can end up losing not only the newly created seats, but some of the previously safe seats. This has actually happened in both NY and CA.”

For sure anti-religion “scientists” have a strong bias and ulterior motives to claim the shroud is fake.
There are probably people on the other side with a strong bias to declare it legitimate.

my misgivings about the shroud are around several factors.
(1) its almost too perfect. Shows the marks of the crown of thorns, the bloody wound in the side, and so on.
(2) the account in the New Testament suggests there was a separate cloth for the head of Christ.
(3) almost nothing is known as to the history of the shroud until it became widely popularized.
But the cloth itself does date to the first century. And it clearly shows a crucified man. Normally the crucified were left to hang either until the birds had their way or the bodies were taken down then burned or thrown into a pit. Only more rarely when someone noteworthy was crucified was the body prepared for burial and wrapped in a linen shroud like this. Then normally what would happen, is after a few years, the family would enter the cave-like tomb, unwrap the body which is now just bones, and then collect the bones into an ossuary box for preservation. The stained cloth would have been of no value and just burned. This one wasn’t.

DW – I do not have much faith in the shroud being real but there is one interesting question. If the ability to create this image was possessed by an artist or artists, why not make more or of another person? There are enough pieces of the “true cross” to build Noah’s Ark.

Today is the 80th Anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. 3 days later, Nagasaki got nuked. In a rare move for me, I applaud and thank a Democrat for a decision. President Truman saved my dad and uncles from having to invade Japan. Because my dad was not killed in Japan, you get me.
For the revisionist historians who claim that Japan would have surrendered without the atomic bombs, the easy rebuttal is it took 2 bombs and they still waited 6 days after Nagasaki to quit.

Let me tell you how WV state legislative redistricting was done after the 2010 census in WV.
********************************
WV legislature at that time ws still ⅔ Dems in House and Senate. The D speaker formed a 25 member select committee in the 100 member House of Delegates. I was one of the 8 Rs appointed to serve on that committee. I was given the census block data for our area and tasked with drawing the 8 House of Delegates districts in the easternmost 3 counties of Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan and a little bit of Hampshire county.
Other R legislators from this region volunteered to help me. We worked hard for many weeks, had public hearings to get input, etc. The others suggest busting up the Martinsburg delegate district (the district I am elected from every two years since 2002, but heavily Dem in registration and the ONLY D district in Berkeley county). I refuse to do that, despite busting up Mtsbg. heavy D district would help me to be reelected. Neither of the two Ds from the area I asked to help me wanted to join in helping work with me on drawing the lines. We came up with a nice plan.
BUT…SECRETLY, the Speaker had previously selected 4 Dem house members and charged them with coming up with a redistricting plan. Each of the Dems had 12 or so counties they were secretly charged to do. One of those 4 Ds was a D House member from Jefferson county single handedly draw all the district lines from Jefferson county all the way west to Morgantown.
We go back to Charleston. House Redistricting Select Committee meets. One of the Ds on the committee moves to accept a redistricting plan–that none of us had ever seen–that is being proposed for all 55 counties. I move to amend it to include the one we worked on for the 3 easternmost counties. Rejected along party lines. Other Rs offer amendments. All quickly rejected along party lines. They vote and pass the secret redistricting plan out of committee to send to the floor. Committee met for like 20 minutes total time.
Rs offer amendments on floor, all rejected. A couple of Ds offer small amendments to change this small census blocks from this to that delegate district and they all pass.
I look at the numbers in districts in my area and point out the math is flawed. This plan that was before us had counted various census blocks in more than one delegate district. The total numbers of population in the delegate districts here do not add up correctly. I propose and plead delaying the vote until the mistakes are corrected. Denied.
Redistricting plan quickly passes the House on party lines and we all go home. Two or three weeks later, they realize they made math mistakes (like I said) and call for a special session to reconvene to pass a corrected version of the Dem secret redistricting plan that was HEAVILY gerrymandered and having districts looking like snakes and animals with long necks and long legs.
NOW the Jefferson county D who had secretly drawn all the district lines from the Potomac River to Morgantown contacts me to get my input. He rejects my input.
We go back to Charleston for the special session and the corrected, but still heavily gerrymandered redistricting plan passes on party lines.

Oh, and I indeed lost the 2012 election to retain my house seat by @ 300 votes.
Hard to fight against straight D party votes going from 300 in 2010 to 750 in 2012 when Obama is head of the D ticket. Straight party voting did me in. (now, no longer allowed in WV)
But I won seat back in 2014 off-year election for my last 2 year stint.
The Dem who won it in 2012 I had defeated in 2010 and in 2014, but in 2016 but he narrowly won the open seat again in 2016. Then he switched parties to become an R. Then won a seat in the WV Senate, and Rs have been elected from the Mtsbg. District ever since.

I guess the Ukrainians are doing some real damage in their drone war on Russian territory.
“Putin is reportedly mulling an air truce with Ukraine to halt its record-breaking drone and missile bombardments, a major potential concession to President Trump ahead of his Friday deadline to make peace.
The Kremlin has repeatedly rejected attempts at a full-fledged cease-fire with Ukraine, but is open to an air truce if Kyiv agrees to it as well, Bloomberg reported, citing a source familiar with the potential agreement.”
