    ————

LOL! Take a look at poly market predictions in 2021-2024. Not a very good predictor of fed action. The fed dot plot will tell you far more. The biggest beef I have with Powell is not his conservative approach to rate cuts at the moment, which is supported by some of the data, although the weight of contrarian datapoints is now starting to tip the scale in my opinion. No, it’s his continued growth of our money supply while he’s holding rates steady. Take a look at M2. It’s growing at the same slope like it did when we were in a financial crisis. This is not helping at all with his desire to curb inflation and acts against his restrictive rate stance. It’s almost schizophrenic, like putting one foot on a gas pedal and the other on an accelerator.

    ————-

Bitter , you’ve asked that multiple times in other threads and I have responded. Numerous and material tariffs have been implemented since Feb of this year and are generating significant tariff revenue. Here is an updated list –

Tariffs Currently in Effect and Generating Income:

    1. 10% Universal Tariff on All Imports (Effective April 5, 2025):
      • A baseline 10% tariff was imposed on all U.S. imports, except for specific exemptions, starting April 5, 2025. This applies to goods from most countries unless otherwise specified.whitehouse.govtheguardian.com
      • Exemptions: Goods such as steel, aluminum, autos and auto parts, copper, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, lumber, bullion, and certain energy and critical minerals are exempt from this reciprocal tariff. For Canada and Mexico, USMCA-compliant goods remain at 0% tariff, while non-USMCA-compliant goods face a 25% tariff (or 10% for energy and potash).whitehouse.gov
    2. 20% Tariff on Chinese Imports (Effective February 4, 2025):
      • A 10% tariff on Chinese imports was increased to 20% on March 4, 2025. This applies to all Chinese goods, with some exemptions for electronics and semiconductors.rbc.comaljazeera.com
      • Note: A higher 104% tariff on Chinese imports was briefly in effect starting April 9, 2025, but was later adjusted, and the current rate is reported as 20%.aljazeera.comtheguardian.com
    3. 25% Tariff on Automobiles and Auto Parts (Effective April 2, 2025):
      • A 25% tariff on automobiles and auto parts not manufactured in the U.S. was implemented to boost domestic manufacturing. This tariff is expected to generate significant revenue, with projections of $100 billion annually.@WhiteHousejpmorgan.com
    4. 50% Tariff on Steel and Aluminum (Expanded Scope by June 16, 2025):
      • Tariffs on steel (25%) and aluminum (10%) were initially implemented in 2018 during Trump’s first term and continued under the Biden administration. In 2025, these were expanded to a 50% rate on a broader scope of steel and aluminum imports, effective by June 16, 2025.budgetlab.yale.edualjazeera.com
    5. 50% Tariff on Copper (Effective by August 1, 2025):
      • A 50% tariff on copper imports was announced and is expected to be in effect by August 1, 2025, contributing to revenue generation.jpmorgan.combudgetlab.yale.edu
    6. Tariffs on Canada and Mexico (Partially Implemented, Some on Hold):
      • 25% Tariff on Non-USMCA-Compliant Goods from Canada and Mexico: Initially announced to take effect on March 4, 2025, these tariffs were put on hold until March but are partially in effect for non-USMCA-compliant goods at 25%, with energy and potash at 10%. USMCA-compliant goods remain tariff-free.crfb.orgwhitehouse.gov
      • If fully implemented, these tariffs are estimated to generate $110 billion in revenue through the rest of 2025.crfb.org
    7. Tariffs on 22 Countries (Effective July 7 and July 9, 2025):
      • New tariff rates were announced for 22 countries on July 7 and July 9, 2025, as part of the reciprocal tariff framework. Specific rates vary (up to 50% for countries with large trade deficits), but these contribute to the overall effective tariff rate of 18.0% (pre-substitution) as of July 10, 2025.budgetlab.yale.edu
    8. Lumber Tariffs (Increased from Prior Levels):
      • Lumber tariffs, particularly on Canadian imports, were raised by the Biden administration in 2024 to 14.5% and are expected to increase to 34.5% in 2025. These continue to generate revenue, though they are a point of contention due to their impact on housing costs

April 2025: $15.9 billion in tariff collections, up 135% from April 2024 and 83% from March 2025.

April and May 2025: $37.8 billion in revenue from tariffs on steel, aluminum, cars, and goods from China, Mexico, and Canada.

Are these “revenues” being collected on fewer transactions and lower imports?

Remember, the goal here is war on international trade.

We will know how successful that war is by measuring the drop in imports and exports.

And don’t give me the “more jobs” and more “investments” BS, that will take years to take effect.

  23. Are these “revenues” being collected on fewer transactions and lower imports?

    ——-

LOL, no and wrong again. On the aggregate, volumes are up. For example, look at Japanese autos. Tariff revenue is the highest it’s been since Reagan, volume is steady or increasing depending on brands, but their margins have decreased since they have chosen to “eat” the tariffs and not pass them on to US consumers. Profitability still remains within historical averages for them so there is the possibility of this continuing for quite some time. I can give similar examples for steel and other durables.

the goal here according to the admin is is not a war on international trade, just unfair trade and a desire to repatriate manufacturing. So far it is appearing to work. Will it continue? Who knows but all predictions to the contrary so far have fallen by the wayside, just like in Trumps first term.

FLA2025 lives in the alternate universe where tariffs are not a tax on consumers, do not result in a drop in international commerce, and do not curtail economic activity both in the country applying the tariffs and in the country paying the tariffs.

The sophomoric justification for this asinine theory is that someone will “eat” the tariffs, but “eating” the tariffs is irrelevant.

The other idiocy is that tariffs produce “revenues” for the government, again pretending these “revenues” don’t come out of anywhere. They do come out of somewhere, mostly out of the consumer’s pocket.

You can be sure these “revenues” are completely offset by decreased economic activity and a lower tax base. You might be collecting money in tariffs, but the reduced economic activity will result in less taxes been collected along the supply chain of the affected products.

I know this all way above the head of a low IQ moron like FLA2025 but the fact is Trump and his AFL-CIO protectionist agenda has not revised the basic laws of economics. Supply and demand still rules the day.

  51. Fla – You should acknowledge that the strong economic data supports the recent actions of the Fed. Based on this performance, there is no reason for Trump to be dissatisfied with Powell’s leadership. Even though Powell is a lawyer, not an economist, he has managed interest rates just like a good macroeconomist would.

The Fed has broken the inflationary expectations that were building in the post-Covid years and now businesses and households are getting comfortable with low inflation.

Just as Paul Volcker had to jack up interest rates to end the inflation of the 1970s, Powell’s Fed had to raise short-term rates considerably to break the back of expectations. The Fed has been nothing short of heroic for the past 2+ years.

    Like

  52. Hi Bills. I totally agree. The robust economic data is a contra indicator for cutting rates. You run the risk of overstimulating the economy. However, I do think the latest fed dot plot, where all but 4 of the voting Fed governors think the sweet spot is between 3.5-4% hold true. I think a 1/4 point drop in the next month or two followed by another if the data holds with no overstimulation, would be appropriate. However, your main point is 100% correct. The robust economic data in light of all that is going on (tariffs, money supply growth, etc) argues for what Powell has done – not dropping too quickly. ,.

They are still holding $6.65 trillion – far above the $1 trillion they used for open market operations.

Of course, if the reduction caused long rates to increase (especially 10-year), interest on the national debt would go up – and the President would be even more upset. So, I think the Fed is once again doing a balancing act.

Simple deductions would find if there were any malevolent Epstein/Trump associations in these files the Biden Administration would have lit up Trump’s reputation immediately. Further analysis, of how the Dems usually roll, is that they probably already shredded anything that may have indicted any Dems and tampered with the rest by inserting misinformation that could entrap Trump – much like they did during Russiagate and all the bogus indictments to follow. When Trump went on a rant about his base falling for these antics, I think this was probably at the root of his frustrations. This also explains why the Dems are calling for the files to be released now, when they could have easily done so when Biden was president – before all the trucks appeared at the FBI offices after the election.

That’s really a while separate discussion, but I’m a bit leery of the Big Data et al set not because I think Baris is fudging the numbers, but rather because a very low information set of the electorate which doesn’t show up a lot has gotten a burr up their rear ends over things which needed to be done (Iran), and things which, while having some level of importance (Epstein), do not themselves rise to the level of collapsing the entire movement and its stunning progress over the past six months.

  96. The Wall Street Journal, and Rupert Murdoch, personally, were warned directly by President Donald J. Trump that the supposed letter they printed by President Trump to Epstein was a FAKE and, if they print it, they will be sued. Mr. Murdoch stated that he would take care of it but, obviously, did not have the power to do so. The Editor of The Wall Street Journal, Emma Tucker, was told directly by Karoline Leavitt, and by President Trump, that the letter was a FAKE, but Emma Tucker didn’t want to hear that. Instead, they are going with a false, malicious, and defamatory story anyway. President Trump will be suing The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. Murdoch, shortly. The Press has to learn to be truthful, and not rely on sources that probably don’t even exist. President Trump has already beaten George Stephanopoulos/ABC, 60 Minutes/CBS, and others, and looks forward to suing and holding accountable the once great Wall Street Journal. It has truly turned out to be a “Disgusting and Filthy Rag” and, writing defamatory lies like this, shows their desperation to remain relevant. If there were any truth at all on the Epstein Hoax, as it pertains to President Trump, this information would have been revealed by Comey, Brennan, Crooked Hillary, and other Radical Left Lunatics years ago. It certainly would not have sat in a file waiting for “TRUMP” to have won three Elections. This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS!

For what it’s worth, someone already claims to have run the image that Tina posted through one of the AI programs and posted this conclusion on another Republican leaning blog . I don’t know how legit this is, but it’s an entertaining read.-

    Conclusion

The handwriting in the image, particularly the signature, does not match Donald Trump’s known handwriting based on the discrepancies in flow, consistency, and specific letter forms. The visible outline and the author’s admission of clipping and pasting the signature strongly indicate this is a satirical creation rather than a genuine autograph. The “Happy Birthday” text also lacks the distinctive traits associated with Trump’s writing, further supporting the likelihood that this is a fabricated piece meant for humor rather than a legitimate birthday card.

btw Howard Lutnik wasn’t just neighbors with Epstein during the go-go years. He shared a wall with Epstein in the townhouse he bought from Epstein and Werner, which is where he was holding fundraisers for nasty Hillary

    Like

  108. It’s clear Lutnik drilled a glory hole in that wall to be serviced by Epstein’s child laborers, all helpfully trafficked by the Mossad. Trump no doubt paid regular visits to Lutnik’s glory hole, too; no flights to pedo island necessary!

Having Hillary’s biggest donor at all these Epstein press conferences to condemn MAGA was bad optics anyways.

Sec of State Bill Barr’s father was the one who hired Jeffery Epstein, who had no college degree, to be a math teacher at the Dalton institution. (Danald Barr was the headmaster of Dalton school) (these people are all connected once again)

That was before he had his own island, multiple airplanes and the largest residential house in Manhatton
