  1. interesting g data on the cost of illegal aliens in the workforce –

According to data from the Center for Immigration Studies (pro-immigrant), many immigrants work for extremely low wages, which are then subsidized by taxpayers through public assistance.

The argument that “someone has to pick your lettuce” is dead; there is no “cheap labor” only corporate subsidies at our taxpayer expense. It might even end up being cheaper for businesses holistically when they are forced to pay actual market wages rather than depending on roundabout benefits.

🔸 54% of immigrant-headed households use at least one major welfare program, compared to 39% of U.S.-born households.
🔸 Non-citizen households (e.g., green card holders and illegal immigrants) show the highest usage at 59%.
🔸 Compared to U.S.-born households, immigrant households show elevated usage in:
    – Food assistance programs: 36% vs. 25%
    – Medicaid: 37% vs. 25%
    – Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC): 16% vs. 12%
🔸 Illegal immigrants can receive benefits on behalf of their U.S.-born children, while children who are illegal immigrants themselves are eligible for school meals and WIC.
🔸 Several states provide Medicaid or SNAP to some illegal immigrants, and millions of undocumented immigrants with work permits (DACA, TPS, asylum applicants) qualify for EITC.
🔸 Removing low-cost programs like school meals and WIC from the analysis still shows 46% of immigrant households vs. 33% of U.S.-born households use at least one remaining major program.
🔸 Workforce participation is high: 83% of immigrant households and 94% of illegal immigrant households have at least one worker.

  6. Big day tomorrow, Tina as June CPI will be released. The Fed will have a very difficult time maintaining if inflation continues to hold. The number to focus on is NOT the annualized CPI. This will likely show an increase since last June 2024 was merely .03. June 2025 would have to practically be deflationary to beat that. No, the number to focus on is the unadjusted month to month comparison between May and June. We previously saw a surprising decrease from April to May (.31 to .21). If we see June continue the deceleration and come in below .21, the Fed will be hard pressed not to cut a bit.

“The problem is that now Powell might see any cuts as caving in to Trump bullying him.”

Why not just see what happens? The Fed follows the 2 year as Gundlach says- the Fed doesn’t even set rate targets it just follows the 2 years.

Last year…last summer I should say the 2 year was 75-100 bps below the fed rate so Powell cut in Sept, and that caused long end rates to GO UP! That’s the wrong direction.

So now this summer the same situation. 2 year is like 50-75 points below the Fed rate indicating Powell needs to cut.

What is going to happen though?

another bond market protest? Are we getting higher rates again based on rate cuts?

If so then Powell will need to start QE again (or YCC) paired with the rate cuts in September

“Further light has been shed on Trump’s presence in the trophy presentation, with his interactions with Chelsea captain James and goalkeeper Sanchez having been revealed. While Palmer appeared confused in the background, Freeman revealed James had asked for Trump’s permission to lift the trophy. As Palmer said ‘No, no, just wait, wait…wait…wait’, James was seen turning to the US President to seek his approval.

James reportedly said ‘I can lift?’, with Trump responding ‘Oh we can, good!’ According to Freeman, Sanchez had been open to Trump remaining on the stage and being part of the celebrations. ‘Please, sir,’ the goalkeeper said to Trump, according to Freeman, before asking him ‘Want us to lift the trophy next to you?’ With Trump having signalled his approval, Sanchez was seen motioning for James to lift the trophy and kick-start the celebrations. Trump was then seen beaming at the front of the squad of Chelsea players as James lifted the trophy aloft. ”

Yes, but then again, they incorrectly predicted significant increases in annual CPI for March and April. The actual numbers were far from what was predicted. Here is a very good model that has been almost spot on for the past 2 years . Low end has rates holding but the likely is a slight rise in annual. However, it will be the month to month that will drive rate cut decisions if annual isn’t a blow out –

“Maxwell Breaks Silence: Ready to Testify, Says Epstein Client List Implicates Top Democrats

    By Jonathan Gregory

    Washington, D.C. — July 14, 2025

Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein and the only person ever imprisoned in connection with his sex trafficking network, says she is now prepared to speak publicly about the notorious Epstein client list. In a surprising development from prison, Maxwell has announced that she would “welcome” the opportunity to testify before Congress and reveal the full extent of Epstein’s dealings, including the names of his powerful clients. She emphasized her desire to finally tell the American people “what really happened,” claiming the public deserves the truth after years of secrecy and speculation.

According to Maxwell, President Donald Trump is not on the client list. Instead, Maxwell claims that “plenty of top Democratic Party officials” are implicated, although she has not yet named specific individuals. Her comments suggest that the client list may contain politically explosive information with the potential to upend public trust in some of the nation’s most prominent figures.

Maxwell, who was sentenced in 2022 for her role in grooming and trafficking young women for Epstein, maintains that she has remained silent under intense pressure. But now, she says, the time has come for full transparency. “If Congress is serious about uncovering the truth,” she stated, “I’m ready to speak under oath and reveal everything I know.” Whether lawmakers will take her up on this offer remains to be seen, but her willingness to testify could reignite interest in one of the most disturbing scandals in recent memory.”

  49. On the morning of September 13, 1864, the road to Berryville boomed with the thunder of artillery as Union and Confederate forces clashed. Amidst the chaos, Lt. Henry E. Bedell of Vermont’s 11th Regiment was horribly wounded by a Confederate shell. The projectile tore through his left thigh, leaving a grievous wound, and shattered his right hand, severing a finger. Field surgeons worked desperately to save him, amputating his mangled leg in a crude attempt to stop the bleeding. Yet as night fell, Bedell lay pale and still on a straw pallet in an abandoned house near Berryville.Miraculously, Bedell survived that first night, though his ordeal was far from over. Two days later, as Union forces began evacuating the wounded to Harper’s Ferry, officers judged the 20-mile wagon journey too perilous for Bedell’s fragile condition. He was left behind, entrusted—perhaps naively—to local civilians. But as supplies dwindled, Bedell’s caretakers abandoned him, leaving the young officer alone, feverish, and near death….yet out of this ruin came a figure of quiet courage: twenty four-year-old Bettie Van Metre.Living alone on a nearby farm with only an elderly enslaved man named “Uncle Dick” to help, Rebecca learned of the Yankee soldier and made the choice to help – an act of simple humanity. Despite her own hardship—her farm stripped bare by marauding troops and her husband languishing in a Union prison—she brought water, food, and what comfort she could to Bedell. When his condition failed to improve, she undertook a dangerous ride to Harper’s Ferry to seek medical supplies. Union pickets, suspicious of the lone Southern woman, eventually took her to their commanding officer. The general, impressed by her bravery, entrusted her with provisions and morphine to ease Bedell’s pain. Weekly, she made the treacherous journey to Harper’s Ferry alone, bringing back supplies and sending Bedell’s letters northward to his family. Slowly, his strength returned. As winter neared, Bedell and Van Metre hatched a plan to escape the Valley’s dangers. With the help of a sympathetic farmer—they prepared for the perilous journey to Washington. Bedell, hidden in a hay-lined crate with slits for air, clutched a revolver should trouble find them. In Washington, their story touched the heart of Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, who ordered the release of Rebecca’s husband from a Union prison. Weeks later, at a prison camp in Ohio, Rebecca finally found James Van Metre among the gaunt, bearded men. Husband and wife were reunited at last. The group made the trip to Vermont, escorting Lt. Bedell all the way home. The Van Metres stayed in Vermont until it was safe to return home. In the years that followed the war, the families visited each other often. For Henry Bedell and Bettie Van Metre, those months in the Shenandoah Valley were not just about survival—they became a lasting story of friendship and compassion that reached across the lines of war.
