Agree with BillW on this. I would only add that money supply is still way too high and looks over us like thunderstorm in the distance. However, if we get a couple of more CPI prints like this before July, Tina’s call for quicker Fed rate reduction would be warranted.
I would like the Fed to resume reduction of its balance sheet. It still has more than $2 trillion in mortgage-backed securities on hand. Selling them or writing them off would drain off a bunch of the excess liquidity that Fla mentioned.
Let’s also hope that the republicans in Congress can get their act together and produce a “big, beautiful bill” that finally stops deficit spending and resulting Fed action to pay for it.
Fla, didn’t the Fed lower rates last year? Wasn’t inflation higher then than now? What was the rationale to lower rates then, but not now? Fear of tariff-driven inflation?

It happens almost every April, Jan and it’s due to tax receipts coming in. It’s slightly larger this year , but not by much . Unfortunately. April spending was higher than March and was more than the prior year. We really need government to learn how to live within a budget and stop the increase in spending. We won’t have big inflow months like April, due to those taxes coming in, every month.

“A federal judge became the first to rule in favor of President Donald Trump’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act (AEA) to deport suspected members of the Tren de Aragua street gang.
US District Judge Stephanie Haines on Tuesday ruled that the president has the authority to remove members of a foreign terrorist organization. Tren de Aragua has been given this label, meaning that the White House can remove its members under the AEA.
However, Judge Haines did argue that the administration did not provide sufficient notice to the deportees before removing them from the country.”
Now, the White House can deport any illegal immigrant in the Western District of Pennsylvania as long as they provide 21-days’ notice to the deportees in English and Spanish.”
Ok fine.
But what does the 21 days entitle them to do exactly?
“Several people have recently said Palisades Park on Ocean Ave. in Santa Monica is overrun by aggressive squirrels. Some people reported the squirrels chasing them, while another person told FOX 11 that she had to jump over them while running to avoid tripping.
The city has posted signs around the park warning people not to feed the animals. But in search of food, the squirrels have reportedly been chasing people in hopes of getting their tiny hands on something to munch.
The increase in population is also attributed to mating season and the birth of new babies.“
The DNI declassified the FBI guidance responsible for the surveillance and harassment of ordinary citizens by calling them domestic terrorists without any predicate for doing so. Gabbard called this an abuse of power.
Gabbard’s statement came after Just the News reported last week that a June 2021 domestic terrorism policy memo empowered federal agencies like the FBI and Homeland Security Department to open probes on Americans solely if an agent believed they had been involved in “concerning non-criminal behavior.”
In other news Rubio is being tasked to go to Turkey to oversee the Putin/Zelenskyy talks. I still am dubious Putin will even be at that meeting.
As Fox News reported, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on Tuesday fired the top two officials on the National Intelligence Council, after whistleblowers revealed they were “radically opposed” to President Trump. The two officials in question are Mike Collins, who was serving as the acting chair of the National Intelligence Council, and his deputy, Maria Langan-Riekhof.
Jason said….”But what does the 21 days entitle them to do exactly?
Still does not seem clear.”
If it’s based on the Enemies Act, I believe they’d need to file a writ of habeas corpus in the federal court nearest the detention facility. Subject matter is limited to “I’m not in that group”.
Bitter said….”Personally, I think Zelensky would be justified in shooting Putin if they actually meet. I understand this might complicate negotiations.”
Yes, he would. Laughed out loud at the last line. 🤣

“Major League Baseball on Tuesday removed Pete Rose and “Shoeless” Joe Jackson – two of the sport’s most famous players who were previously kicked out of baseball for gambling on the game – from the league’s permanently ineligible list.
The historic decision by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred allows Rose to be considered for induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, an honor that had been ruled out as part of the settlement he reached with Major League Baseball. Rose died in September, and Manfred ruled that his lifetime ban ended with his death.”
Pete Rose played 24 seasons for the Reds, Phillies and Expos. He had a .303 batting average, 4,256 hits, 160 home runs, 1,314 RBIs and 2,165 runs scored. He won 2 Gold Glove awards, 1 MVP award, the Rookie of the Year award, 1 Silver Slugger award, 1 World Series MVP award and 3 World Series.”
How do you erase all that because of “betting on baseball” (not on his games or his team)?

”The latest Treasury Monthly Statement revealed that in April, the US Treasury generated a $258.4 billion surplus after last month’s $160.5 billion deficit; this the second biggest surplus on record, with just the $308 billion bumper surplus in 2021 bigger.”

Federal Reserve economist hiring is affected by elections?
Chicon”
Absolutely.
“The seven members of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System are nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. A full term is fourteen years. One term begins every two years, on February 1 of even-numbered years. A member who serves a full term may not be reappointed”
In the United States, the Federal Reserve Board and its affiliated regional Federal Reserve Banks hire economists and research assistants at various levels of education.”
So yes, elections have consequences.

Hmmm……tempting.
In fairness to Trump, he has been much more critical of SA than Biden and he is giving refugee status to white farmers.

Trump appointed judge.
I hope he won’t be impeached.

Still does not seem clear.

If it’s based on the Enemies Act, I believe they’d need to file a writ of habeas corpus in the federal court nearest the detention facility. Subject matter is limited to “I’m not in that group”.

When they say a piece of wood is date to i.e., 1700-1750, what do the dates represent? The year the tree was “born”? The year it was cut down?

The technique is carbon-14 decay rate. So it measures the estimate time since the wood (or tree) was a living organism.

Finally remedying one of the greatest injustices of all time. Too bad it wasn’t done when he was still alive.

The MLB idiots that imposed this ban should burn in hell.
