The Economist is a shell of its former self. Here is an article on its latest embarrassment-
“I thought crack-smoking had lost its appeal, but perhaps it is still a regular pastime among journalists determined to take down Trump’s America. The Economist, for example, has suggested that “the land of the free” has moved across the Atlantic, from America to Europe. The continent, the magazine claims, is now the best place to enjoy the “pursuit of happiness”, while embracing “moral norms” on following climate edicts, fostering free trade and preventing oligarchal overreach.
Really? They certainly can’t be thinking of the “pursuit of happiness” in terms of economic opportunity. Even The Economist cannot hide the fact that Europe is an economic laggard compared not just to America, but to China and increasingly India, now estimated to be the world’s fifth largest economy. Over the 15 years to 2023, the eurozone economy grew by about 6 per cent, measured in dollars, compared with 82 per cent for the US, according to International Monetary Fund data.
To put it another way, the most powerful economy on the European continent is barely larger than my adopted home state of California. Two decades ago, one could legitimately see Europe, with its own regime of protectionist policies, as a third force in the world economy. Today this is no longer the case. . . .
Even as they disdain Trump, Europe’s leaders might consider embracing some of his policies. For example, there appears to be no way to follow “net zero” strictures – now largely gone in America – without facing “energy suicide”. High energy prices, combined with electrical vehicle mandates, surely all but guarantee that Europe will lose its grip on the car market to Chinese producers. Germany’s entire industrial structure seems likely to decline: it could lose upwards of 400,000 of its estimated 800,000 auto jobs by 2030.”

Whew, you’ll never break 1000 on that SAT next year. Here’s an English lesson for the mentally brain damaged imbecile, Jason yachola. A declarative sentence is one that makes a statement. Back to back declarative sentences make two statements and are not necessarily linked. Let me use an example for the Indio. English can be very difficult for an insecure llama riding lunatic on a message board. Hope this helps. What a buffoon! lol!
So your explanation is that these two sentences were not “linked”?

“I wish to be clear, America First does not mean America alone. To the contrary, it is a call for deeper collaboration and mutual respect among trade partners. Far from stepping back, America First seeks to expand US leadership in international institutions like the IMF and the World Bank. By embracing a stronger leadership role, America first seeks to restore fairness to the international economic system.”
The. Government seems obsessed with micromanaging what they consider to be social norms of their own making. They put people into a Petri dish and then tweezer them into groupings designed thru their own DEI lens. They’re doing this in every corner of society they can access. Nursing is one area I always found to be a mixture of ethnicities, classes etc. However, I guess the government wasn’t satisfied …..
“The nursing workforce diversity program, unfortunately, is really looking at people based on immutable characteristics,” Do No Harm’s Medical Director, Dr. Kurt Miceli, told The Daily Wire. “I think that when you have grants that incentivize a discriminatory program to look at things other than merit, you create a system that’s not only discriminatory, but also promotes a lower level of care that’s provided, a lower quality of care.”

I remember when Tina wanted Fauci fired, not for anything he said or did, but because he was a “Drat”.
Tina and I both posted about wanting Fauci to go, not because he was a dem, but because of his damaging COVID guidance. You OTOH, Jason said if Trump fired Fauci it would be a bad move, because the press would come down hard on Trump. As usual, Jason, your comments need fact checking.
I don’t recall that, Bitter. I do know that she and I were the first posters indicating dissatisfaction with Fauci and wishing he would be fired. MD and Jason supported Fauci. Back then, Jason was always a clone of MD’s thinking.
Jan – Tina’s first post about Fauci was that he was a Democrat who supported Hillary. I don’t believe MD ever stated any position regarding Fauci at HHR because MD left the night Trump was elected in 2016.
I don’t believe MD ever stated any position regarding Fauci at HHR because MD left the night Trump was elected in 2016.
You’re right, Bitter. MD did quit HHR right after Trump’s 2016 victory. I always attach Jason, though, to the hip of MD because Jason seemed to endlessly echo MD’s opinion and his battles with people. I do know Jason supported Fauci because he felt he added epidemiology credibility to Trump in the last year of his presidency.
”Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is reportedly considering removing the COVID-19 vaccination from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommended vaccine schedule for children.”
This vaccine should never have been on the vaccine schedule for children in the first place, as this demographic had such a small likelihood of being susceptible to COVID. IOW, the risks always outweighed the benefits.
“This vaccine should never have been on the vaccine schedule for children in the first place, as this demographic had such a small likelihood of being susceptible to COVID. IOW, the risks always outweighed the benefits.”
The vaccine schedule should be rolled back to what it was in the late 80’s, at the least.
Just about every vaccine requirement since then has been mainly to benefit vaccine makers, as opposed to the citizens of the United States. Majority of them should be optional.
Jason appears to be for the elimination of the FDA. How about Bitter?

So if I oppose a far left big government Dem like RFK Jr, who is in love with European style “I know better what you should be eating” regulations in charge of HHS I must be for the “elimination of the FDA”.
Chicon is really jealous of Janzam’s lead in the HHR Clown category.
I do know Jason supported Fauci because he felt he added epidemiology credibility to Trump in the last year of his presidency.”
BS. I supported his appointment because I did think it lent credibility and gravitas to the Covid Task Force.
I did not think he should be fired because I didn’t think Trump could survive it politically. However, I argued here often that making Fauci “Covid czar” and letting him be the spokesman/face of the Covid Task Force was a mistake and Trump would regret it. I repeatedly stated Fauci was just another member of the team and should be treated as such.
After the initial lockdown, which was somewhat non-controversial, I opposed most of the Covid lockdowns and restrictions and mandates. I had huge fights here with those that thought it was ok to discriminate against people not wearing masks in restaurants, for example. I believe NYC in fact was one of those who thought it was ok to bar people from restaurants for not wearing masks so spare me his newly found “anti-Fauci” stance.
The idea that I supported Fauci’s policies in “Trump’s last year of his presidency” is garbage.
First term never trumper Hinderacker’s take over at Powerline –
”I think there is good reason to think that this is essentially the deal that could have been struck a long time ago. Some Europeans, recently including French President Macron, object to any loss of Ukrainian territory. I am sympathetic to that position; after all, Russia invaded Ukraine, not the other way around.
But the war has dragged on for more than three years, with probably close to one million casualties. I am about as far from a peacenik as you can get, but isn’t that the paramount fact? Isn’t it time to bring the killing to an end? It seems to me that both Ukraine and Russia would be crazy to prolong this war.
So I hope the Trump/Vance/Rubio peace plan succeeds. I hope that within the next few days, a permanent cease fire will be announced, and the parties will be working on the details of a treaty along the lines outlined above. If that doesn’t happen, then I don’t blame the Trump administration for walking away. This isn’t our war. What happens to our aid to Ukraine at that point is anyone’s guess, but I don’t think the Ukrainians will want to find out.

Yep, several times. Let Mr. Zelensky handle it on his own.
“I believe NYC in fact was one of those who thought it was ok to bar people from restaurants for not wearing masks so spare me his newly found “anti-Fauci” stance.””
-Let’s put my argument in the proper context.
I did not think it was OK IF THE STATE made it a mandate to have masks.
However, I would have ZERO issue with an owner who thought a business could be run with that policy. It would strive or collapse on its own, without my patronage, of course. I would laugh at them, and simply move on to the next establishment.
Same as if a restaurant could discriminate against you for wearing a tank top, or shorts, or NOT having a blazer/dinner jacket on, I argued a mask is part of a dress code requirement.
And for those that will make the silly argument, it is not the same as discriminating against someone because of the color of their skin, their sexuality, their gender, and/or their religion.
Again, to repeat: IF AN INDIVIDUAL ESTABLISHMENT WANTS TO MAKE IT PART OF THEIR DRESS CODE REQUIREMENT, I WILL NOT STAND IN THEIR WAY OF THAT LUNACY.
Key word for those “translating”, make sure you get it right: INDIVIDUAL.
Ask the resident lawyer if you need assistance with that word.

The Cultists were all about reducing regulations and combating government overreach.
But as soon as Trump appoints a far leftist big government pro-European regulation Democrat to a cabinet position, all of a sudden the Cultists are all onboard with him and whatever he wants to do.
There is NO conservative principle or ideal these people will not sell out in a nanosecond.
Sad.

The. Government seems obsessed with micromanaging what they consider to be social norms of their own making. They put people into a Petri dish and then tweezer them into groupings designed thru their own DEI lens. They’re doing this in every corner of society they can access. You’re right, Bitter. MD did quit HHR right after Trump’s 2016 victory. The vaccine schedule should be rolled back to what it was in the late 80’s, at the least.
Just about every vaccine requirement since then has been mainly to benefit vaccine makers, as opposed to the citizens of the United States. Majority of them should be optional.
