Really? They certainly can’t be thinking of the “pursuit of happiness” in terms of economic opportunity. Even The Economist cannot hide the fact that Europe is an economic laggard compared not just to America, but to China and increasingly India, now estimated to be the world’s fifth largest economy. Over the 15 years to 2023, the eurozone economy grew by about 6 per cent, measured in dollars, compared with 82 per cent for the US, according to International Monetary Fund data.
To put it another way, the most powerful economy on the European continent is barely larger than my adopted home state of California. Two decades ago, one could legitimately see Europe, with its own regime of protectionist policies, as a third force in the world economy. Today this is no longer the case. . . .
Even as they disdain Trump, Europe’s leaders might consider embracing some of his policies. For example, there appears to be no way to follow “net zero” strictures – now largely gone in America – without facing “energy suicide”. High energy prices, combined with electrical vehicle mandates, surely all but guarantee that Europe will lose its grip on the car market to Chinese producers. Germany’s entire industrial structure seems likely to decline: it could lose upwards of 400,000 of its estimated 800,000 auto jobs by 2030.”

I have opposed all TRO’s except for the one that mandated (and was confirmed by SCOTUS) that the government pay contractors for work contracted and completed.
The difference is what remedy exists to reverse these TR0s and the obvious usurpation of power of these rogue judges.
For example, I support congressional action (and by the superior courts) that limits the power of district judge decisions to their area of jurisdiction and to the parties that have filed suit. In other words, no more “national injunctions”.

BS. I supported his appointment because I did think it lent credibility and gravitas to the Covid Task Force.
I did not think he should be fired because I didn’t think Trump could survive it politically. However, I argued here often that making Fauci “Covid czar” and letting him be the spokesman/face of the Covid Task Force was a mistake and Trump would regret it. I repeatedly stated Fauci was just another member of the team and should be treated as such.
After the initial lockdown, which was somewhat non-controversial, I opposed most of the Covid lockdowns and restrictions and mandates. I had huge fights here with those that thought it was ok to discriminate against people not wearing masks in restaurants, for example. I believe NYC in fact was one of those who thought it was ok to bar people from restaurants for not wearing masks so spare me his newly found “anti-Fauci” stance.
The idea that I supported Fauci’s policies in “Trump’s last year of his presidency” is garbage.

”I think there is good reason to think that this is essentially the deal that could have been struck a long time ago. Some Europeans, recently including French President Macron, object to any loss of Ukrainian territory. I am sympathetic to that position; after all, Russia invaded Ukraine, not the other way around.
But the war has dragged on for more than three years, with probably close to one million casualties. I am about as far from a peacenik as you can get, but isn’t that the paramount fact? Isn’t it time to bring the killing to an end? It seems to me that both Ukraine and Russia would be crazy to prolong this war.
So I hope the Trump/Vance/Rubio peace plan succeeds. I hope that within the next few days, a permanent cease fire will be announced, and the parties will be working on the details of a treaty along the lines outlined above. If that doesn’t happen, then I don’t blame the Trump administration for walking away. This isn’t our war. What happens to our aid to Ukraine at that point is anyone’s guess, but I don’t think the Ukrainians will want to find out.

UKRAINE: Everytime the Trump administration suggests that Ukraine and Russia are getting close to agreeing to a ceasefire and commencement of peace negotiations Zelensky goes public with a statement that effectively scuttles any chance of a ceasefire.

-Let’s put my argument in the proper context.
I did not think it was OK IF THE STATE made it a mandate to have masks.
However, I would have ZERO issue with an owner who thought a business could be run with that policy. It would strive or collapse on its own, without my patronage, of course. I would laugh at them, and simply move on to the next establishment.
Same as if a restaurant could discriminate against you for wearing a tank top, or shorts, or NOT having a blazer/dinner jacket on, I argued a mask is part of a dress code requirement.
And for those that will make the silly argument, it is not the same as discriminating against someone because of the color of their skin, their sexuality, their gender, and/or their religion.
Again, to repeat: IF AN INDIVIDUAL ESTABLISHMENT WANTS TO MAKE IT PART OF THEIR DRESS CODE REQUIREMENT, I WILL NOT STAND IN THEIR WAY OF THAT LUNACY.
Key word for those “translating”, make sure you get it right: INDIVIDUAL.
Ask the resident lawyer if you need assistance with that word.
