The Reagan haters always try to pretend Reagan was an AFL-CIO “conservative”.
Reagan believed in free trade, and his trade policy was not based on stupid tariffs and trade wars. The limited and targeted tariffs he imposed (wrongly) were completely different in scope and duration compared to Trump’s policies of blanket tariffs on all or most of our most important trading parties.
For Reagan, tariffs were at worst an exception, not the rule like they are for Trump.
Reagan would never say the “the most beautiful word in the English language is tariff”, because Reagan believed in free trade, free markets, and free enterprise.

Correct, Bitter. When the 2017 Tax Bill was passed, the SALT limit, doubling of the standard deduction, elimination of AMT, and the revisions of the tax brackets were all part of the same package. The SALT limitations are just the piece that hit Democrat states the hardest.
The only thing better would have been elimination of the tax deduction for home mortgage interest and charitable contributions. Since the doubling of the standard deduction, I no longer itemize, so I get zero benefit from those deductions.
Can you imagine the screaming if Congress eliminated those two tax loopholes?

i always itemized my F.I.T.
Lot of work. But with charitable contributions and State income tax we were still better than not itemizing. (House was paid off, so no more interest on mortgage was being able to be deducted by me.)
When they doubled the standard deduction, it is FAR better on wife and I to not bother to itemize. No way we can get anywhere close to itemizing $29,200. (again, we have no mortgage payment.)

On Wednesday, the test of wills came to a head when Mr. Marocco and at least two of Mr. Musk’s deputies — Jacob Altik, a lawyer, and Ethan Shaotran, a software engineer — were denied entry to the offices, according to Mr. Brehm and video captured at the foundation. Mr. Marocco threatened to return with U.S. Marshals and the Secret Service if they were not allowed access.

Brief comment on today’s hearing in the USAID funding case before Judge Ali. The hearing lasted almost 3 hours and covered literally dozens of topics. I think four different attorneys spoke for the 10-12 plaintiffs, and one attorney for the Govt. By far the best advocate as the attorney for the Govt.
These are specialized areas of law and the Federal Programs Branch has the expertise on matters involving Govt programs. The attorney today knew his subject matter — much better than did the Judge. Judge Ali, CLEARLY chastened by the Chief Justice having stepped in to stop his ill-advised Order last week, followed by 4 Justices essentially saying he didn’t know what he was doing yesterday, was FAR MORE “judicious” in asking hundreds of questions. It was clear that he sort of thinks he understands the subject matter while at the same time realizing there is a lot he does not understand. Right at the start he wanted to deal with a couple of subjects he just blew past in the hastily called hearings the day after the complaints were filed — standing and jurisdiction to provide the remedies the plaintiffs were asking for.
In the TRO hearing three weeks ago it was obvious that he was animated by two facts and two facts only — the plaintiffs claimed they were owned money for work they had already done under USAID contracts/grants, and without payment under the agreements they were going to go out of business, lots of people were going to lose their jobs, and all these terrific foreign aid programs pumping money to foreign countries were going to be shut down. His only interest three weeks ago was how he could make sure that didn’t happen. Today he was far more concerned with the limits of his authority, and the degree to which it was probably unwise of him three weeks ago to assume that his black robe allowed him to substitute his judgment on what is worthwhile foreign aid spending for that of the newly elected President. Because the hearing went on so long I was not able to stick around for the end.
But I heard enough to be fairly confident that while he is still likely to enter an Injuction, it will be far more limited than the TRO. It will likely be limited to just the parties to the suit — and not every entity who might have a similar claim — and it will exclude those contracts/grants where the Govt has made a decision already to continue the funding. I don’t think his pride and sense of “righteousness” will let him walk away completely so there may be something for the Govt to appeal to the Circuit Court — but I didn’t get the feeling it will be anything as outrageous of what he was trying to do with his TRO.

I saw an interesting article somewhere yesterday asking if maybe just about everything Biden signed was moot and void because he use some sort of automatic pen instead of actually signing himself.
Another theory was that if he was incapacitated would anything he signed be valid.
I think both scenarios are weak, I believe the automatic signature pens are legal just like you can sign Docusign docs online and as far as we know there is no confirmed diagnosis of Biden’s incapacity on record.
But it will interesting to see if this has any legs.

So I addressed that in my post.
In order to prove Biden was incompetent to sign you would need a positive diagnosis of incapacity at the time of the signing. Unless a physician attested to that, which I doubt, it would be very difficult to establish that he was indeed incompetent.
Witness testimony won’t do it, because there will be witnesses that attest he was fine, even if you could find some to say he was not.
