  1. 76% support trumps speech. That is a very high number. Could be his very best speech before Congress as well as a reflection as to how poorly the drats responded.

  2. Line of the night for me. As I’ve said, the only way to potentially eradicate the use of DOJ/FBI for politics is for the actual target to deliver this line from that place.

”And we have ended weaponized government, where, as an example, a sitting president is allowed to viciously prosecute his political opponent like me,” Trump said. “How did that work out? Not too good. Not too good.”

  3. Here’s another poll not as high but very good –

President Donald Trump‘s 99-minute victory lap in front of Congress on Tuesday night was a hit with the watching American public, according to an exclusive snap poll for DailyMail.com.

Trump may have included taunts and boasts but some 57 percent of respondents gave the speech a thumbs up.

Only 32 percent said they disapproved, according to an online survey of 774 viewers conducted by J.L. Partners.

And some 58 percent said they thought it struck a generally optimistic tone, after Trump announced that the ‘American Dream is surging bigger and better than ever before.’

‘This was a knockout speech for Trump,’ said pollster James Johnson. ‘Viewers felt he was confident, optimistic, and strong – and they left feeling more positive about the future of America than when they left.’

  4. Michael Goodwin, a recovering Democrat, at the NY Post expresses my sentiments exactly –

”In normal times, the run-up to a presidential address to Congress would be filled with reports and guesses about what the president would say.

There was plenty of that this week, but an inordinate amount of the focus in Washington was on how Democrats would react to Donald Trump. How many would boycott? How would the members dress? Would they hoot and holler, or maybe march out in an organized pro-test?

In the end, it didn’t matter. They were a sad, shrunken presence, especially after one of their main stooges, Rep. Al Green of Texas, got himself ejected early on by repeatedly interrupting.

He was the lucky one. Those Dems who stayed were like fish out of water, waving their silly little paddles and representing nothing except resistance to whatever Trump said or did. . .

. . . Calling them a clown show is an insult to clowns. They earned their trip to the political wilderness and Tuesday proved they are not yet ready to emerge as a constructive opposition party.

Meanwhile, the president they love to hate put on a show for the ages. No commander in chief in modern times has seized the reins of power with such gusto and delivered such immediate results. True to form, Trump wasn’t shy about saying so. .

. . . We are witnessing a president at the top of his game. Clear-eyed and confident about himself and his agenda, he put on a master class in presidential leadership in what was a speech for the ages.

Most times, a political address of 90 minutes would feel like an eternity. In the hands of Trump, it felt like a well-paced adventure through the dreams, hopes and tragedies of the people inhabiting the most important nation on Earth.

The Trump on that stage is not just the dominant figure in American life. In six short weeks, he has put our nation at the center of the world and made America important again. . .

. . . But while having a period of being in the opposition is pretty much par for political life, rarely do we see an entire party desperately searching for relevance.

That’s where the Dems are. They are irrelevant because they stand for nothing except they are against everything Trump is for.

There’s no future in that and their sad performance Tuesday night proved they have learned nothing.”

  7. Here is Clintonite Mark Penn’s take –

It was unquestionably a powerful speech featuring the stories of real and sympathetic Americans who have faced adversity or lost loved ones. There were parts people will disagree with but most people will agree with most of the policies outlined including closing the border, balancing the budget, death penalty for cop killers, cutting fraud and waste, bringing peace to Ukraine and better exploiting the country’s natural resources. The democrats made themselves look small with failing to agree even on 90/10 issues or to vigorously salute people of courage and valor. The president included all of his policies even the most controversial ones like the new tariffs or the Panama Canal, pulling no punches and explaining his thinking and purpose. He did what he had to do and then some — and Democrats need to do more than just oppose everything and pick what they do agree with and where they draw their lines on what they oppose and explain why if they are to regain any respect.

Using guests to tell stories is common now; the Dems knew it was coming. A better choice, imo, for them would be to try to out-cheer Republicans and to chant U-S-A.

Instead they reinforced the idea that they hate Trump so much that they can’t cheer a kid with cancer, and that they’re embarrassed by America.

    ———–

This decision only affects completed work, not future freezes.

The ruling compels the Government to release funds for work that had already been completed before February 13, 2025. However, it does not block the administration from continuing to pause or cut future foreign assistance. Trump’s broader agenda of cutting USAID funding may continue for projects that were not yet underway.

    ———-

Think about it, if Catholic charities or some other aid group paid out millions for supplies, logistics, etc. in anticipation of Biden’s misguided but agreed upon dole outs, its not their fault. Now, if fraud was involved and no work was done, Bondi and Kash can still pursue them for criminal and/or civil liability. In that regard, i would think those 300 year old social security payment cases would be slam dunks. What is taking them so long to bail a few scalps tot he wall?

  46. Roberts also voted to let the $2 billion payments be made. I have a lot of respect for his strategizing. Freeing up payment for work authorized, contracted, and completed is not constitutional – it’s contract law.

By forcing the issue back to the District Court judge, he could be setting up a later, and more definitive SC decision, like: 1) ending District Court judges’ authority to issue nationwide injunctions or restraining orders; 2) re-establishing the sequestration power of the President, so that the Executive Branch doesn’t have to spend every penny appropriated by Congress.

Either of those outcomes would take a few months, but would be fantastic.

Roberts did the same thing with Dobbs, by the way. He didn’t take marginal cases that would have been narrow in scope – instead he waited for the Mississippi case and then lowered the hammer. You will recall that both Roberts and Barrett voted to get rid of Roe.

Rather than do that, they opted to “maneuver” around thru a hole he left in his order that allowed them to rely on statutes/regs/ contract terms to delay making the payments.

Right or wrong – they didn’t appeal his decision outright, which is one of the things the Plaintiff’s pointed out to the Supreme Court. The only appeal was of his Feb. 25 Order that the payments be made by Feb. 26 at 11:59 pm. Second, Roberts stepped in when there were 2 hours left and there was much uncertainty about whether the payments could be made as directed by Judge Ali on a logistical basis. That issue is dealt with by today Order.

Judge Ali is directed by the Order to be specific about what claims his order covers and he needs to consider the logistical problems of making the payments in fashioning a new order. “Given that the deadline in the challenged order has now passed, and in light of the ongoing preliminary injunction proceedings, the District Court should clarify what obligations the Government must fulfill to ensure compliance with the temporary restraining order, with due regard for the feasibility of any compliance timelines.”

The Govt will surely appeal any subsequent order that directs it to pay parties who are not before the Court. So, don’t read more into the Order than is there. Yes, it would have been nice for the Court to simply vacate the TRO. But that would not have solved the problem. As the Order notes, the Preliminary Injunction proceedings are ongoing.

The briefing on that is complete and a hearing was supposed to take place yesterday. I expect Judge Ali will now hold that hearing since his TRO expires on 3/10 — 5 days. The jurisdictional issues are raised in the briefing so Judge Ali is going have to confront them as part of any decision he makes. None of that was before the SCOTUS in a properly briefed form. Roberts always prefers regular order. He stepped in because the order to pay by 11:59 that night was the problem. The other issues can all be dealt with in regular order — let Judge Ali enter his TRO, the Govt appeals the TRO to the Circuit Court, and then the case gets to SCOTUS on the merits.

    (shipwreck tweet).

Quietly holding little paper signs is TOTALLY gonna save us! The only Dem who showed a sense of urgency was Rep Green from Texas. The urgency of the moment demanded that the rest of the Dems form a band around him and MAKE the Republicans force them all out. But no, we continue to bring rule books and etiquette books to the knife fight we are in. There is a scene in the old movie “Mars Attacks” where President Jack Nicholson finally musters the courage to shoot a nuclear missile at the Martians. The Martial leader catches the missile, sets it off and inhales it like a hit off a bong then laughs. THAT is what Trump and the oligarchs are doing with Dem resistance at this point”

Yep, they will be interpreting the 14th amendment. In my view, if they interpret it as any child born in the US is a citizen, it means they are upholding the wording amendment.

I predict 9-0. Maybe Alito and Thomas won’t go along, so at worst 7-2.

In any case, I am taking bets they won’t change the current interpretation.

    @mrddmia

Dear Congress: The Supreme Court just allowed an activist DC Biden judge to sabotage the presidency and spend $2 billion in foreign-aid money over the President’s objection. The Court refused to allow the chief executive officer to exercise his core Article II power to take care taxpayer money isn’t misspent on waste, fraud, and abuse. The Court refused to allow the commander-in-chief to exercise his core Article II power to ensure the money isn’t misspent against our national-security interest, like funding terrorism in Gaza. So it’s time to offset that wasted $2 billion from the federal judiciary’s $9.5 billion FY2025 discretionary budget. https://uscourts.gov/sites/default/files/fy_2025_congressional_budget_summary.pdf

During a Tuesday press conference, Williams and Wilmore were asked if the Biden administration did in fact decline Musk’s offer to bring them home early, to which Wilmore replied that Musk’s claim ‘is absolutely factual.’

‘I can only say that Mr Musk, what he says, is absolutely factual,’ Wilmore said, noting he and Williams were not briefed on what happened behind closed doors. So I believe him. I don’t know all those details, and I don’t think any of us really can give you the answer that maybe that you would be hoping for,’ he added.

Also the gubment can delay payment for any reason including fraud waste and abuse. This can last about 30 days. The judge appeared to suggest that the president had no role in this

if the gubment still refuses to pay then the correct recourse is the federal claims court.

Great point by Alito. Mexico is trying to sue gun makers for damage done by the cartels, pretty absurd.

But Alito turned the tables on the Mexico lawyer.

“Justice Samuel Alito asked how Mexico would feel about a U.S. state bringing a lawsuit accusing Mexico of aiding and abetting illegal conduct inside the U.S., in an effort to recoup tax dollars spent on law enforcement and public welfare. “Would your client be willing to litigate that case in the United States?” he asked Stetson.

“I can’t, and certainly, you know, don’t feel comfortable giving away things like sovereign immunity on behalf of the government of Mexico,” she responded.

“So the argument basically is, it’s a one-way street.” Alito said.”

I already made my position clear, Chicon can try to lie about it all he wants.

I have no issue with the terms of the mineral deal, I haven’t researched the specifics but the general outline seems good for both the US and Ukraine. I also think anything that binds the US and Ukraine economically and shuts the Russians out is a positive.

My objection is that if it comes without security guarantees it is pretty much worthless, because it depends on trusting Putin.

I am not convinced that the deal itself is a “guarantee” as many of the Cultists seem to believe. And of course, despite the lies otherwise, I think the guarantees do not have to involve a US troops on the ground commitment, it can be composed of weapons, intelligence, sanctions, etc.

For this reason, I don’t blame Zelensky for not signing something that can be destroyed at Putin’s whim.
