Still do. Just not willing to endlessly pay for something that hasn’t shown any success yet (in driving Russia out) and won’t in the future.

What’s the plan to drive the Russians out? How much, for how long? “For as long as it takes, and as much as it takes” is not a plan and is not gonna fly. I said a few years ago that the American public needs to see success to keep funding. You called me names, of course, but it worked out that way.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14455729/donald-trump-poll-approval-congree.html

“Our Trump tracking poll, launched today with J.L. Partners, shows his approval rating has ticked up by one point in the past two weeks.

It now stands at 54 percent, representing a historic high for a president who has polarized the nation.

Some 46 percent of those who expressed an opinion said they disapproved of his performance.

Much of the increase in approval comes from younger voters, with 56 percent of 18 to 29-year-olds now saying they approve (up from 51 percent two weeks earlier).

It shows that Trump’s helter-skelter blitz on the federal government has more admirers than critics among voters. So far.

When asked if they now had a more or less positive view of the president, more than one in three Americans (36 percent) said they had a more positive view.

Only 16 percent said more negative.”

“I think our relationship (with the U.S.) will continue, because it’s more than an occasional relationship,” Zelensky said late Sunday. “I believe that Ukraine has a strong enough partnership with the United States of America” to keep aid flowing. These were some of the remarks featured in the Associated Press article highlighted in a Truth Social post by Trump on Monday.

Trump warned in response, “This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelensky, and America will not put with it for much longer.” He added in reference to Zelensky that “this guy doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing…”.

”I read that headline as “Starmer gives Zelensky ‘full backrub,’” which might have been more accurate. The Zelensky World Tour for the last week now includes punking the White House, lecturing America for its insufficient billions, getting yelled at for having “no cards” by a furious Donald Trump (who took offense “on Putin’s behalf,” not the taxpayer’s, according to the New York Times), then instantly backtracking on X and opening the door to a NATO-less solution. Afterward, he fled across the pond to England, where he offered to resign in exchange for NATO admission before dismounting into the arms of Starmer, who eased urgency toward a settlement by pledging to stand with Ukraine “for as long as it may take.”

Zelensky’s transformation from affable populist to Anne Applebaum’s idea of a sex symbol was off-putting even before he started appearing before swooning legislators around the world wearing his trademark wan face and “I Saved The World From Putin and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt” costume. We just spent three years turning a fixable local issue into a test case for a new ethos of imperial intransigence, one that apparently requires constant weeding of unbelievers and full control of media to preserve “democracy.” Zelensky may not have started as a hawk for this global Misinformation is Murder movement, but once he realized selling the idea was a requirement for NATO’s billions, he threw himself into the role with gusto. Now, he’s refusing to give up the part.”

It will never be “fair”, I will change it to realistic.

The West lifts most sanctions against Russia.

Russia retreats to the pre-invasion borders with some adjustments to be negotiated. Russia could get some additional land to justify the losses, say half of what they conquered, I understand Putin can’t lose face by getting nothing. Roughly they get 10% of Ukraine. Anybody in the Russia occupied areas gets to leave without harassment and vice versa those in Ukraine that want to be Russians can also leave unhindered.

A buffer zone will be created within the Ukrainian controlled territory manned by international peacekeepers. The US commits to rearm Ukraine and/or provide weapons if Russia violates the agreement.

These leaves Russia with Crimea and more than what they had in 2022.

They get away with war crimes, a shameful international scandal.

Is his “plan” to surrender 20% of Ukraine that Russia already occupies? What kind of negotiation is that?

    Easy question.

The answer to that is to make staying in Ukraine too expensive, rather than an actual “eviction”.

The losses have to be so great in human and material terms that if become untenable for Putin to continue the war.

But of course that involves massive military aid in the form of offensive weapons and shared intelligence, allowing Ukraine to pinpoint where the Russians are as well as doing massive damage inside Russia itself to its infrastructure and staging areas.

I understand the President’s party is now majority against this type of aid, but that would be my “military plan”.

“Russia is not the problem; the US is. There have been some 250 armed conflicts since 1945, and the US initiatied over 200 of them, always against countries at peace with us. Serbia and Libya are egregious examples of Washington’s behavior, and Ukraine is the most recent example.

Obama started that war by overthrowing Ukraine’s legitimate government, and installing the current Banderite/Nazi junta. Zelenskyy is not some naif wandering lost in the forest. He is evil.

Russia avoided war for 8 years, repeatedly negotiating settlements that would have protected the civil rights of ethnic Russians in Ukraine, and would have left Ukraine intact, except for Crimea. The US and Europe sabotaged all of these agreements, because they were trying to make Russia go to war. The goal of the war was to be the collapse of a Russia that was supposedly too weak to survive a war. Then Russia would be fragmented and looted.

Trump is the first President understand that Russia is a peer superpower. Most leaders in Washington and Europe still don’t understand that. Trump is going to extricate the US and Europe from looming nuclear war, even against the wishes of other American and European leaders who are too besotted to see that.

Trump is going to save all our arses. We should be grateful.

janzam is “concerned” about civil rights in Ukraine.

In Russia, a police state with kangaroo elections and kangaroo courts, where dissent is not allowed, the press is tightly controlled, and opponents of the regime are sent to Siberia?

    No problem.

-Trump doesn’t trust Putin. See Jan2017-Jan2021 for evidence of that. Irrefutable evidence.

That’s why you need Zelenskyy to sign the deal first, so that Ukraine and USA(merica) are partners. Right now, we are just being treated as piggybank, one which doesn’t have to be repaid.

As for IN OUR INTERESTS, you are correct.

BUT, it is also in our interest to make sure our deficit doesn’t continue being YUGE. If we don’t change our trajectory, not only will Ukraine be at risk, but so will our own country. Our debt is unsustainable, and is our biggest weakness at this point in history.

The minerals deal solved the deficit spending part, and strengthened the IN OUR INTERESTS part. Win-Win.

    Then Zelenskyy busted his hand.

“So, more weapons and more cash, and continued intelligence assistance. The only difference is letting them use the weapons anywhere. Not sure that gets it done.

But, the path to make Pooty squeal does involve taking all gloves off, militarily and economically. Europe has to quit buying their natural resources from Russia. The US would need to use all available economic tool available.”

    I agree.

But Trump has no interest in that, it is easier just to surrender Ukraine.

If YES, why would anyone be saying that the USA(merica) is responsible for anything now?

Great Britain has this. Let them go for it.

All the Putinistas here have hated him for years.

Let’s get real that the Putinistas here “suddenly” turned on him.

His record is that he was a giant in defending Ukraine against the Russian invaders. THAT it is his legacy.

Putinistas like you want to make his legacy what he wore in the Oval Office.
