Alonso!!!! Thank God i don’t have to type in “pete alonso” into the search engine anymore to see if there is news. I wish they had done this two months ago. I wish it were for four years, no opt outs because we are going to have to go through this all over again in the summer, unless, at mid season when he has 30 hr and about 95 rbi’s hitting behind soto and lindor…they sign him to a long term deal. He’s a good guy, I don’t mind them overpaying to keep him around.

  4. Re USAID

You shouldn’t throw away the baby with the bathwater. USAID does (or did) important work around the world, as a child I personally witnessed USAID food being delivered to needy communities as well as worthwhile projects that improved people’s lives. I remember at the time that it created tremendous good will toward the US, and that the food packages said “donated by the people of the United States” in bold letters.

Of course, wokesters have bastardized the program to include all sorts of ridiculous funding for woke causes and projects like transgender plays and other obvious attempts to make USAID into a political arm to fund a leftist woke agenda.

USAID, in its original mission, should continue, and I hope its core purpose will remain and continue to be funded.

  6. Where do I start…with Walt’s post from a couple days ago which was well written, insightful and should be heeded. We will NEVER EVER add people to this blog and make it what it deserves to be, with all the name calling, back biting and sniping that goes on here.

We are all allowed to differ without calling each other moron and idiot. Additionally, we ALL disagree on what it means to be a “conservative” so why argue about it. We can discuss things without the vitriol.

As well, how about we stop being so damn pedantic about what is said by someone. There is nuance folks!!!!! Holding each other to this insane standard of “to the letter” instead of the intent is ridiculous. If we all lived our lives like that we would return to the state of nature where we all kill each other. I mean, saying someone lied because instead of saying “he signed 100 orders, when he actually signed 99” (EXAMPLE, NOT A REAL COMMENT) is not acting like an adult, its looking for an excuse to belittle because someone thinks differently.

Same goes for the other side with quotes from people who are obviously biased taken as dicta.

To quote someone famous, “can’t we all just get along.”

I have differences with many over Ukraine, USAID, Trump’s bombastic approach, visas, etc etc, but I like all of them, and respect their opinion. I don’t have to agree…and when it’s too much, I just scroll past.

Thanks Walt for what you said the other day.

  8. Jason, you saved me writing a long post. Thank you…you are SPOT ON. Those who cherry pick programs (whose funds btw didn’t really go to most of the programs you see, but were ways to funnel money to those HELPING promote American interests) overlook the tremendous amount of good USAID does.

Countless tens of thousands, if not hundreds or more, would starve without USAID. They would be subject to terrorist abductions, unhealthy conditions, and a lack of any way to improve.

Best quote of the day: “USAID does (or did) important work around the world…don’t throw the baby out with the bath water,” – nailed it

  11. USAID has been too corrupted, too intertwined with anti-American, malicious acts to be saved. It should be scuttled entirely, with a new enterprise created afterwards that would fold into its purpose the humanitarian focus it originally was tasked to have.

  12. Vic said….USAID, in its original mission, should continue, and I hope its core purpose will remain and continue to be funded.

That’s fine, but as you also said, it has been bastardized by the left. Looks like there is little to no oversight, so the funding of leftist crap grew. It also funded the left-wing media. Strange how there were no whistleblowers…..

Dump the whole thing and start from scratch. And build in accountability.

I just called Congressman Moore’s office and was given the answer to this question.

“How and who gives USAID their money, and who determines how it is spent. The USAID was set up by John Kennedy and was great idea to help foreign countries after a disaster.

Money is appropriated by Congress in bulk in most cases, but sometimes a specific $$ is earmarked by them. The rest is doled out by USAID at the foundations direction (Director, CFO or by a committee). I could not find more about these individuals, but based on what I have seen far somebody has to be influencing these decisions because none of what I have seen so would be disaster related. Somebody needs to go to jail!!!!!!!!
