Who said it?

MLK day was a bit overshadowed by the Trump inauguration this year. But in light of this national holiday, I thought it would be good to launch another new idea for a thread starter. Who said it? The contest is simple. Be the first to correctly guess who said or wrote what is shown below:

  3. The post below is a carry-over from the prior thread:

The birthright citizen guarantee in the 14th amendment, has been interpreted in different ways, but has never gone through a clarifying challenge in the SC. Many have said the founding fathers wording was directed at African Americans brought here as slaves, giving them a birthright status, but was never meant for an onslaught of illegal immigrants giving anchor babies automatic citizenship. In fact I believe no other country has subjected itself to such an open ended citizenship standard. Anyway, what Trump has done is provide a controversial EO opening the door for the SC to decide its constitutional merit.

I actually not know the place from naval history and Tom Clancy novels. The only time when Tirpitz fired her big guns in anger was in 1943 during a bombardment of a weather and comms station on the island. Clancy mentions the place in Red October, and perhaps again in Red Storm.

  10. I just saw a former DOJ attorney on Fox talking about the birthright citizenship issue. She thinks odds are that the Court says Trump is wrong.

However, she pointed out two things that could help Trump. First, the US Senator who wrote the amendment said on the Senate floor that it did not apply to aliens, and that “subject to jurisdiction thereof” referred to slaves.

Second, the Supreme Court case on the issue differentiated earlier cases not allowing birthright citizenship because those earlier cases involved aliens.

Before you ask why President Trump hasn’t yet done [insert campaign promise], please remember that only one of his nominees has gotten confirmed. By Day Two of their terms, Biden had 7 nominees confirmed & Obama had 8 confirmed. Uniparty Republicans & Democrats are deploying every delay tactic they can. President Trump has still done a lot, but some things can only get done once his entire team is out on the field.

The evident meaning of these last words is not merely subject in some respect or degree to the jurisdiction of the United States, but completely subject to their political jurisdiction and owing them direct and immediate allegiance. And the words relate to the time of birth in the one case, as they do to the time of naturalization in the other. Persons not thus subject to the jurisdiction of the United States at the time of birth cannot become so afterward except by being naturalized, either individually, as by proceedings under the naturalization acts, or collectively, as by the force of a treaty by which foreign territory is acquired.[26]”

    Elk v. Wilkins

Also from Wikipedia, about the Wong Kim Ark decision….

“legal scholars disagree over whether the Wong Kim Ark precedent applies when alien parents are in the country illegally.[12][13]”

That’s the crux of the case. We’ll see how it goes.

  17. Jonathan Turley sees the EO, dealing with an illegal alien’s birthright, much like I do – seeing it as a deliberately sought pathway to a court challenge.

”“….these are obviously well-prepared EOs, and some of them, by the way, maybe intending to start a fight,” Turley replied. “The EO on birthright citizenship may be an effort to get this into the court. You know, there is that sweet spot for a two-term president. The first two years, you really have to put a score on the board before halftime, because those last two years, the pace slows down considerably. And so they may want this in court so that they can get that resolved and, if necessary, start a constitutional amendment process.”

The Ukrainian top psychiatrist has been arrested for taking $1 million dollars in bribes from draft dodgers. He has accrued 3 apartments, several BMWs, land, lots of cash (no yachts yet listed), and just illustrates the enormous scope of corruption Ukraine has been known for before and during its war with Russia. With no audits the US continues to send money over there, some say in amounts nearing $200 billion dollars. Nonetheless, it never seems to be enough for Zelenskyy as he continues To “guilt” the EU, NATO, and the new US Administration for not only more money but also 200,000 troops. I hope Trump shows restraint in going along with these none-stop “asks.”

    However……

“Ukrainians have little faith in attempts to quash the corruption that has plagued the country since long before Russia’s invasion. A new opinion poll found that 53 per cent believe anti-corruption agencies themselves are most to blame for the high level of corruption, while 45 per cent blamed Zelensky, according to Socis, a Kyiv-based pollster. Two thirds said corruption had become more of a problem recently.

More than 90,000 Ukrainians have been charged with desertion and abandonment of a military unit since the start of the full-scale war with Russia, with the vast majority of cases being initiated last year, according to the prosecutor-general.”

My opinion, hopefully it will carry the day.

The issue is – babies born to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS should be denied citizenship, because they are actually citizens of the nation where their parents are from, the same way a child born in a different country to American citizens is automatically an American citizen, and the same way a child born to LEGAL IMMIGRANTS going through the naturalization process end up becoming citizens once their parent conclude the naturalization process.

My issue has nothing to do with race, ethnicity, religion, where you’re from etc etc.

The law is not clear. Good for Trump to make it an issue.

Back during Trump’s first term, the use of sanctions against Russia and Iran and Venezuela was very successful.

It was after Biden assumed office that the use of sanctions became less effective.

I think that has more to do with the person putting the sanctions in place.

Sanctions are similar to immigration laws – if not enforced to the letter of the law, they are not as effective.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1954_United_States_Capitol_shooting

The 1954 United States Capitol shooting was a domestic terrorist attack on March 1, 1954, by four Puerto Rican nationalists seeking to promote Puerto Rican independence from the United States. They fired 30 rounds from semi-automatic pistols onto the legislative floor from the Ladies’ Gallery (a balcony for visitors) of the House of Representatives chamber within the United States Capitol.

The nationalists, identified as Lolita LebrónRafael Cancel MirandaAndres Figueroa Cordero, and Irvin Flores Rodríguez, unfurled a Puerto Rican flag and began shooting at Representatives in the 83rd Congress, who were debating an immigration bill. Five Representatives were wounded, one seriously, but all recovered. The assailants were arrested, tried successively in two federal courts and convicted. All received long consecutive sentences, amounting to life imprisonment. In 1978 and 1979, their sentences were commuted by President Jimmy Carter.[2] All four returned to Puerto Rico.
