Best: a bicycle. I was like 10 and we were poor and it was a significant expense and sacrifice for my parents to buy it.
Worst: the bicycle. It got stolen soon after, my parents said I was negligent in parking it in front of a store in a bad neighborhood, and that I wouldn’t be getting another one.
It was the worst because it was betting never having a bike than having one and losing it.
Times and fashion evolve. We no longer wear animal skins like Walt favored in his youth. Or Togas like Walt…You get the point. Even Scots and Irish moved beyond kilts except for drunken Celtic festivals. The day the sweatshirt was invented should have been the last day of men wearing sweaters.
Just like Ralphie in The Christmas Story and his Red Ryder carbine-action, 200-shot range model air rifle, my best Christmans present was my own Daisy model Red Ryder BB Gun.
A close second was a 1966 Schwinn bike whom I proudly displayed my first politcal campaign advertising sticker a couple of years later….”KennedyBobbedy” for RFK, Jr.’s dad.
Walt remembers when 3 guys stopped by to deliver gold, frankincense and myrh. He said he was waiting for silver, oregano, and cheese. They kept going to the manger next door.
Let’s go to what state in this election were you most encouraged and most disappointed in this election?
Encouraged:
New York – Trump cut the 23 pt margin from 2020 to less than than 13 pts in 2024.. He flipped important counties like Nassau and Rockland and almost doubled the R vote in Bronx Co. from 15% to 27%. 10 pt gain in Queens, 5 points in Manhattan.
I suspect this is not all “Trump”. It might suggest a more permanent swing in the Jewish, Hispanic and Black vote away from the Dems.
Disappointed:
Colorado – Trump lost by 11 points vs. 13 in 2020, a very small gain compared to most states. That is worse than New Jersey and close to IL and NY. Double the margin of MN. The Dems now dominate not only the Denver area but most of the mountain counties west of it all the way to the Utah border.
This suggests a more permanent “blue trend” . Rs did pick up a House seat by a tiny margin but the outlook looks bleak.

Best – Earthquake Tower. It was a 5 foot tower that would shake if you pushed a button. It came with a helicopter, fire trucks and little people.
Worst – A sweater. It is still in the back of my closet with the tag on it.
Chi can also participate by naming Hanukkah presents.

Bitter comes clean and admits he owns a sweater.
Hallelujah, the truth will set you free.
Now if he will only admit his wife makes him wear it to the Flower Show…

I never accepted or assumed ownership of the sweater.
